Career
At age 6, Ryu Deok-hwan began his career as a child actor on stage. Among his early television drama appearances was a stint on the hit Lifetime in the United States, which he played for 8 years.
Though he had appeared in several films, it was Ryu's breakout lead role in Like a Virgin that earned him critical acclaim and industry recognition. He gained 28 kilograms in three months to play the role of a transgender teenager who joins the ssireum team.
