Robert Llewellyn Life

Robert Llewellyn (born 10 March 1956) is a British actor, comedian, host, and writer.

In the TV sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf and previously presented the TV engineering gameshow Scrapheap Challenge, he plays the mechanoid Kryten.

Completely charged, he also has a YouTube channel named Completely Charged.

Early life

Llewellyn was born in Northampton, England.

Personal life

Llewellyn began as an apprenticeship and went on to become a professional shoemaker in London, working at James Taylor & Son and John Lobb Bootmaker. In talking to Richard Herring, he confirmed that he had a keen interest in the art: "I still have a piece of me that wants to produce a 3D printed shoe thing, where you put your foot in a thing and then you have a shoe and it's there." It's absolutely perfect, immediately.'

Llewellyn, a Welsh immigrant, learned to drive at the age of 11 (having been taught by his older brother in a go-kart). He is now an electric car and renewable energy advocate, having been a 'head'. He also appears on a YouTube show named Completely Charged, as well as being frequently interviewed about the issue.

Although Llewellyn was on the evening of 1 July 2009, another vehicle struck him side-on at a junction in Gloucestershire, writing off his Prius and rendering him unconscious for about ten minutes. The impact was so strong that it turned his notebook 'into a banana shape.' Llewellyn lauded the honesty of the other driver for accepting full responsibility for the accident, as well as the hospital, police, and other agencies that assisted him. He also praised his 'beloved Prius' for shielding him from the harm. He suffered concussion, minor whiplash, and dizzy spells, but he recovered without further injury.

He and David Peilow drove a Nissan Leaf 400 miles from London to Edinburgh in 2014. It took nine hours to beat a previous record in a Mini-E three years earlier, which was quicker than David Peilow's record in a 2008 Tesla Roadster, which took two days after the Mini-E, but it took just 19 hours.

Llewellyn is both a skeptic and an atheist, and he has stated that the key pseudoscientific irritations he has triggered are astrology and climate change denial.

Llewellyn lives in Temple Guiting, Gloucestershire, and is married to Australian author Judy Pascoe (who also appeared in Red Dwarf as a one-off love interest of Llewellyn's character in the episode "Camille" who shares the same name).

Robert Llewellyn Career

Early career

Llewellyn's first foray into show business began as a hobby, with a few amateur cabaret evenings held in a riverside warehouse overlooking Tower Bridge in London. The shows were a huge success, and he later helped found The Joeys, an alternative comedy troupe company. He had left working as a shoemaker and joined the company as a professional team alongside Bernie Evans, Nigel Ordish, and Graham Allum within six months. With a first intention of investigating sexual dynamics among men, the group toured Britain and France in the early 1980s. Llewellyn penned much of the content and began writing novels. The Joeys formed in 1985, having toured for years and performed thousands of shows. He co-wrote and appeared in The Corner House, a 1991 sitcom for Channel 4, about a café run by gay men.

Julia Sommer was left speechless after her global department boss Robert Llewellyn smirked at her and made the derogatory remarks before saying, 'I bet you like to be on top of the bed.' She successfully sued the insurance company for sex discrimination, misappropriation, victimization, pregnancy discrimination, and unfair dismissal after taking Swiss Re to an employment tribunal. Ms Sommer, who was on a salary of £75,000 per year, has now been awarded £1,287,014. The substantial fee covers injuries to emotions, financial loss, future damages, pension delays, aggrieved injuries, and damages for 'psychiatric injuries'.
