He went from Northeastern to New York University in 2010, majoring in music business. Steinway returned to Los Angeles in 2012 and now resides there.
Music career
RL Grime, a Los Angeles-born designer, joined the WeDidIt collective in 2011 alongside fellow Los Angeles-born developers Shlohmo, Groundislava, and D33J. He made his debut on the WeDidIt label, the Grapes EP, in April 2012, with four original tracks and remixes from Shlohmo, Salva, and LOL Boys.
RL Grime teamed up with producer Salva for a remix of Kanye West's "Mercy," which has received over eight million views on SoundCloud and was dubbed "just huge," by The Fader. RL Grime remixed Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction," which earned over one million SoundCloud streams and charted in the top five on the Beatport electro house chart in December 2012.
RL Grime's first Halloween Mix, containing original songs and remixes of famous songs, as well as vocal drops from celebrities, was released in October 2012. These mixes have long been popular, and they have continued to decline annually until 2021. Each collection includes vocal cameos from celebrities such as Tony Hawk, Pharrell Williams, Hannibal Buress, Shaquille O'Neal, Guy Fieri, T-Pain, and author R.L. Stine, whose name RL Grime derives from.
RL Grime's High Beams EP on Fool's Gold Records, a five-track EP starring producer Salva and Los Angeles, California rapper Problem, was released in July 2013. The EP debuted at No. 1 in the United States. No. 1 on the iTunes Electronic Chart, and No. 2 on the Apple Electronic Chart. Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart has 8 people on it.
In November 2013, RL Grime collaborated with Baauer on the track "Infinite Daps." Both artists, as well as Ryan Hemsworth and Jim-E Stack, toured together throughout July and August 2013.
Void, his debut studio album, was released on November 14, 2014. Among others, it featured guest appearances from Big Sean and Boys Noize.
RL Grime's second studio album, Nova, was released on May 30, 2017. The album was released on July 27, 2018, via WeDidIt Records, and featured appearances by Miguel, Julia Michaels, Chief Keef, Ty Dolla Sign, 24HRS, and Joji. "I Wanta Know" was the album's lead single, followed by "Undo" on June 13, 2018 and "Pressure" on July 11, 2018. Henry referred to the album's design, saying, "NOVA" came from an obsessive focus on expansion and transition. The art and stories as well as the moments that inspired me by this book encourage me to write about it. The feeling of leaving what was familiar and welcoming the stranger. Throughout the process, I had this image of a 'nova' or a star no larger than a human being launched from earth into outer space and expanding indefinitely until its light was all we could see. "I get infinite light" from these records, which is the feeling I get from these books. On July 25, 2018, Miguel and Julia Michaels' last single, "Light Me Up," was released. Grime wanted to build the demo and have Miguel's and Michaels' vocals cut, but Diplo felt that the album needed a "summer vibe" to it.
Henry revealed the founding of Sable Valley in February 2019. "I've been wanting to start my own brand since the inception of RL Grime.' My Halloween mixes have always been a way for me to curate and perform new music, but the next step for me was to start a label. My entire life I've been obsessed with the process of finding what's next, and this is a way for me to use social media to showcase promising talent that I'm interested in. "Arcus" is the first installment of the series, and it seemed as if it was the perfect son to set the tone for what Sable Valley is about. "We strive to provide you with the latest technological, advocacy, and career opportunities to help improve your overall wellbeing." "You will be able to share study results with other Sable Valley affiliates and participate in programming sessions held at various conferences throughout the year as a member."
