Patricia Alma O'Connell (née Hitchcock; born 7 July 1928), also known as Pat Hitchcock, is an English actress and producer.
She is Alfred Hitchcock and Alma Reville's only child, and she appeared in a few of his films, beginning with Stage Fright (1950).
Early life
Alfred Hitchcock's only child and film editor Alma Reville were born in London on July 7, 1928. In 1939, the family immigrated to Los Angeles, California.
Hitchcock aspired to be a child and made her first onscreen appearance as an uncredited extra in Sabotage (1936). She began performing on stage and doing summer stock in the early 1940s. Solitaire (1942), her father, aided her in her participation. She appeared in the Broadway play Violet (1944).
She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and also appeared on the London stage after graduating from Marymount High School in Los Angeles in 1947.
Personal life and death
Joseph E. O'Connell, Jr., son of Boston businessman Joseph E. O'Connell, died on January 17 at Our Lady Chapel in St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York. Mary Alma Stone, Teresa "Terry" Carrubba, and Kathleen "Katie" Fiala were three children of the couple. O'Connell died in 1994.
On September 9, 2021, Hitchcock died of natural causes in her sleep at her Thousand Oaks, California, one month after her 93rd birthday. Teresa's daughter wrote the following words: "She was always good at safeguarding the legacy of my grandparents and making sure they were always remembered." It's sort of a shame that they're no longer around, given that they're all gone.
Career
Her parents immigrated to London in early 1949 to make Stage Fright, Hitchcock's first British-made feature film since emigrating to Hollywood. Pat did not know she'd be on the film before her parents arrived. Her father wondered if she'd mind doubling for Wyman in the scenes that required "danger driving" because she bore a resemblance to Jane Wyman.
She appeared in three of her father's films as a supporting actress. Barbara Morton, sister of Anne Morton (Farley Granger), and Caroline in Psycho (1960), was a play actress in Stage Fright (1950). She appeared as Chubby Bannister, one of Wyman's school chums; Strangers on a Train (1951), playing Barbara Morton, brother of Guy Haines (Farley Granger). Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who received her tranquilizers from her mother prior to her wedding night, she offers to share her tranquilizers with her mother. In her father's film Sabotage (1936), Hitchcock appeared as an extra. The Lord Mayor's Show parade is on the crowd, with Alma Reville and her mother, Alma Reville, awaiting her arrival and then watching the Lord Mayor's Show parade.
In the first episode of the 1953 television series Life with Father, Hitchcock appeared on Irene Dunne and Alec Guinness, a palace maid, and he was cast as a maid. She appeared in DeMille's The Ten Commandments (1956).
Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Hitchcock also appeared in ten episodes of her father's half-hour television show, as well as appearing in ten episodes of his father's half-hour television program, including Playhouse 90, which was filmed by John Frankenheimer. Acting for her father was, however, the high point of her acting career, although she had to call up her children. "I thought the little leading lady was rather lovely, didn't you?" says the comedian after announcing good night and escaping the screen.
She has also worked as executive producer of The Man on Lincoln's Nose (2000), which is about Robert F. Boyle and his contributions to film.
She served as the family representative on Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine for many years. She collected family photographs and wrote the book Footsteps in the Fog: Alfred Hitchcock's San Francisco (2002) by Jeff Kraft and Aaron Leventhal. Alma Hitchcock: The Woman Behind the Man was co-written with Laurent Bouzereau and published in 2003.
