Sara Montiel Career

Career

Montiel began filming in Spain at the age of sixteen, where she appeared in her first film, Te quiero m (I want you for yourself) in 1944, followed by a leading role in Empezó en boda (It Began with a Wedding) later in 1944. They were followed by roles in films such as Mariona Rebell (1946), Don Quixote (1947), and Madness for Love (1948). She went to Mexico in April 1950, joined by her mother, and appeared in a dozen films in fewer than five years, including Women's Prison (1951), Red Fury (1951) and Cinnamon Skin (1953).

In the film Vera Cruz (1954), directed by Robert Aldrich, Hollywood answered immediately, and she was introduced to American moviegoers. Columbia Pictures' three-year contract, but she turned down because of Hollywood's typecasting policies for Hispanics. Rather, she freelanced at Warner Bros. in Serenade (1956), directed by Anthony Mann, who married her in 1957, and RKO in Samuel Fuller's Run of the Arrow (1957).

Between November 1956 and January 1957, she shot in Barcelona the musical film The Last Torch Song during a holiday in Spain and as a homage to its producer Juan de Ordua. The film, which was shot on a very modest budget, became a worldwide mega hit. The songs in the film were supposed to be performed by a pro singer who would dub Montiel, but due to the poor budget, she eventually performed the songs herself. The film soundtrack album has also become a hit.

Following this success, she signed producer Benito Perojo to make four films in three years, the first of which was The Violet Seller, a 1958 large-budget international co-production musical film. The five-million pesetas[b] for four films, making her the highest-paid Spanish actress at a time when the highest-paid actors were netting one million pesetas [US$24,000] per film. The Violet Seller's success was much greater than that of The Last Torch Song, and the deal was based on her merit. She also signed a deal with Hispavox to record and publish her films' soundtrack albums, which she also earned the 10% of the sales as royalties. Hispavox's first album with them, in Spain and Latin America, and in July 1959, they received a Golden Disk award for the number of songs sold there.

All of this made her a global celebrity in film and singing. Almost all of her next films received high box office success, and she combined filming, recording, and performing live. She was the highest paid actress in Spanish cinema, but many years later, she began to say that she had been paid more than US$1 million per film, and the media has widely distributed it, but this amount is much less than what was intended back then. My Last Tango (1960), Pecado de amor (1961), The Lovely Ladder (1962), Casablanca, Nest of Spies (1966), Esa Mujer (1969), and Variety (1971). In Beijing, the film Variety had been outlawed.

She dropped out of movies in 1974 as she became dissatisfied with the film industry and the overt nudity in films, but she kept appearing on her own variety television shows in Spain. In 2002, she was the advertising image of the MTV Europe Music Awards held in Barcelona.

Montiel was invited by singer Alaska, a member of the Spanish pop band Fangoria with Nacho Canut, to record a track sharing vocals with her for the band's re-release of Absolutamente in November 2009. They also performed "Absolutamente" as a duet on the title track. On December 18, 2009, the song's music video was released. She had no plans to retire and was still involved in a variety of projects well into her eighties. She appeared in a sardon Parra de Carrizosa-directed feature film in May 2011. The film title is Abrázame and was shot on location in La Mancha.

She has been dubbed "one of the most influential actresses in Spain" by Spain's press, and has been dubbed a "myth of Spanish cinema" by Spain's press. She has also been described as "the most beautiful woman of twentieth century Spain." She has also been dubbed a "sexual, feminist, and gay icon for Francoist Spain."

King Juan Carlos I (pictured with Queen Elizabeth in 1988): Spain's disgraced former king who abdicated in 2014 and now lives in the UAE in self-imposed exile under a cloud of shame has accepted an invitation to today's service. King Felipe VI, his estranged son and successor, as well as his wife Queen Letizia (pictured below arriving at Buckingham Palace from bottom left). The 84-year-old king has been mired in scandals involving everything from a tax audit to kickbacks, allegations of embezzlement, and rumors of a ferocious philandering. Even now, he's limbering up for a hearing in London's High Court, where he's being sued by a former mistress, Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn, 58, who argues he coerced her and threatened her in the hopes of persuading her to return a £50 million 'gift.' He strenuously denies it.
