Amelia Fiona "Minnie" Driver (born 31 January 1970) is an English actress and singer-songwriter. In Gus Van Sant's Good Will Hunting (1997), she was also nominated for an Emmy Award (2007) and a Golden Globe Award (2008) for her role as Maggie Royal in Return to Zero (2015).

She has been nominated for the London Film Critics Circle Award as British Supporter of the Year on five occasions so far, including in 1996, Good Will Hunting (1997), which she won, and Barney's Version (2010). Grosse Point Blank, Tarzan, Return to Me, Ella Enchanted, Conviction, and Beyond the Lights are some of her previous film projects.

Fiona Bowa on NBC's About a Boy, has been a regular guest star on Will & Grace on NBC, and most recently appeared as Maya DiMeo on ABC's Speechless.

Early life and education

Amelia Fiona Driver was born in London and raised in Barbados until she was six years old. Minnie was given the name by her older sister Kate in childhood.

Gaynor Churchward (née Millington) (1937–2021) was a fabric designer and former couture model. Charles Ronald Driver (1921-2009), her father, was born in Swansea, Wales, and was of English and Scottish descent. He received the Distinguished Flying Award for his participation in the Battle of Heligoland Bight and was a director of London United Investments.

As her father was married to another woman throughout his relationship with Minnie's mother, she never married. Minnie's parents separated early in life when she was six years old. She was sent as a boarder to Bedales School in Hampshire shortly after. She later attended Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and Collingham College, an independent college in Kensington, Central London. Kate, Minnie's older sister, is a film producer and manager. Susan Driver, her older half-sister from her father's previous marriage, as well as two younger half-brothers: Charlie Driver, a football agent from Ronald's subsequent marriage, and Ed Churchward from her mother's subsequent one.

Personal life

Since joining Addison O'Dea in 2019, the driver has been involved with the company. In 2001, she was briefly engaged to Josh Brolin. Henry (born 5 September 2008) is her son, and she has a short friendship with television writer and producer Timothy J. Lea.

In 2016, Driver admitted that she was sexually assaulted while on holiday in Greece at age 17.

Driver became an American citizen on December 21, 2017.

Driver served as an ambassador for and promoter of Oxfam before withholding her assistance in 2018 over the sexual harassment case in the organisation.

In 1991, the driver's television debut was in a Right Guard deodorant commercial. In 1991, the driver made her debut on stage, supplementing her income by appearing as a jazz vocalist and guitarist. She appeared in an episode of Maigret in 1993 with Michael Gambon and Michael Sheen. She appeared in The Day Today, on British television, alongside comedian Steve Coogan and satirist Armando Iannucci, and appeared in Casualty, The House of Eliott, Lovejoy, and Peak Practice.

When she appeared in a leading role in Circle of Friends in 1995, opposite Chris O'Donnell, the driver attracted greater public attention. She continued her work in GoldenEye (1995), a supporting role in Sleepers (1996), a leading role in Big Night (1996), and as a co-star in Grosse Pointe Blank (1997), opposite John Cusack.

In the drama Good Will Hunting (1997), the driver appeared opposite Matt Damon as Skylar, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Screen Actor Guild Award. In the 1997 film Titanic, the driver was supposed to play Rose DeWitt Butaker but director James Cameron decided she was too old, so Kate Winslet was cast instead.

Driver appeared in Sandra Goldbacher's film The Governess in 1998. She co-starred with Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman in the action thriller Hard Rain last year. In the 1999 English-dubbed release of the Japanese film Princess Mononoke, the driver has appeared in multiple animated films, including Jane in Disney's 1999 version of Tarzan and Lady Eboshi. In March 2007, Driver made her return to television in the FX Network show The Riches. In 2007, and 2008, she was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award as Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She had intended to appear in The Simpsons Movie, but she was unable to make it from the final version. "Moon Landing," a driver appeared in Modern Family's January 2010 episode. She appeared in The Deep and appeared in Conviction in Barney's Version, receiving the Genie Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In October 2013, Driver began filming for The Crash, which was announced on January 13, 2017.

The driver landed the lead role in ABC's Speechless, playing the mother of three children, one of whom has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. In the 2016–17 TV season, the series premiered. After three seasons, it was cancelled in May 2019.

At the boarding school, the driver began making music. She appeared on Bomb the Bass' album Clear in 1994 as part of the outfit River. She was a member of the Milo Roth Band, which earned a recording deal when she was 19 years old. She appeared on EMI and Rounder Records in 2001 and performed at the SXSW music festival. Everything I've Got in My Pocket, her first album's title track, debuted at No. 1. The song "Invisible Girl" debuted at No. 34 in the United Kingdom, and "Invisible Girl" reached No. 6 in the United Kingdom, and the album "Invisible Girl" debuted at No. 1. 68. Of the 11 songs on the album, the driver wrote ten of them. On the United Kingdom leg of their world tour, Driver was the supporting act for the Finn Brothers.

In 2004, Driver appeared in Joel Schumacher's film The Phantom of the Opera, based on Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical of the same name. The driver performed "Learn to be Lonely," an original song written for Lloyd Webber's film. However, Margaret Preece's opera debutant was not dubbed by opera singer Margaret Preece, who said she did not have opera experience. In July 2007, Driver released Seastories, her second album, which also included guest appearances by Ryan Adams, the Cardinals, and Liz Phair. In October 2014, Driver released Ask Me to Dance, which featured songs by Elliott Smith, Neil Young, and The Killers.
