Despite being cast in Mara Clara's famous teleserye, Contis was best known for being a member of the kid-oriented show Ang TV and the primetime sitcom Oki Doki Doc.

He was first introduced as a member of Star Circle (now Star Magic) Batch 3 in 1996 as a teenager in his adolescence. Contis gained notoriety for his role in the youth-oriented teen drama Tabing Ilog.

Contis joined GMA Network in 2004 and moved into more senior roles. He appeared in many GMA dramas and shows as an antagonist, and he has also found his niche in portraying antagonist roles. Contis was honoured as the Best Actor at the 24th PMPC Star Awards Best Actor award for Banal, a film directed by GMA reporter Cesar Apolinario, who received the Best Director award in the Metro Manila Film Festival in the same year.

Contis appeared in the fantasy film Darna in August 2009. Valentina's father, Kobra, appeared in the fantasy film Darna. This was the second time Contis has collaborated with actress Marian Rivera (the two previously worked together in Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang). Contis and Rivera co-starred Benjie Paras, Lovi Poe, and Ogie Almany for the third time in the TV sitcom Show Me Da Manny.

Contis also hosted Wipe Out: Matira Ang Matibay, his ninth comedy program on television and his fourth GMA comedy program. He was also cast in the drama series Little Star, marking his return to dramatic roles. When original host Joey de Leon took a temporary leave of absence, he returned to host the show.
