Nate Campbell Career

Professional career

Campbell, a natural born performer, stormed Tallahassee in 2000 and screamed with his opponents. He defeated his first 23 fights, setting up a match with cagey veteran Joel Casamayor in 2003.

Casamayor won a unanimous verdict, but many analysts, including those from HBO, believed that Campbell had fought a much closer match than what the scorecards indicated. Campbell had even claimed to win the close match, according to some commentators.

Campbell slipped into obscurity after losing to Francisco Lorenzo and two defeats to Robbie Peden. Campbell refused to raise his hands to taunt his opponent in the first loss to Peden, and was promptly kicked out. Many in the boxing business assumed that Nate Campbell's days as a boxer had come to an end.

Nevertheless, Campbell came back to life in 2005 with a big win over undefeated opponent Almazbek "Kid Diamond" Raiymkulov. He lost a split decision to Isaac Hlatshwayo in 2006, but he defeated Matt Zegan in an IBF champion eliminator. Campbell's next bout, rather than a title match, was another eliminator, which he defeated over Ricky Quiles. Wilson Alcorro's next bout was a split decision victory over undefeated Juan D'Az on March 8, 2008, becoming the new IBF, WBA, and WBO unified World Lightweight Champion. Campbell, the underdog, was the first to enter the fight, as D.az was deemed too strong and yet too technical. However, Campbell surprised the boxing world by reigning the tempo of the fight. The first seven rounds were intensely fought, but Campbell was largely in control of the game after the 8th round, when Diaz' eyes welled up.

Campbell's first defense of his recently won WBA, WBO, and IBF titles was against Joan Guzmán, who just rose from the Super Featherweight division. On September 13, 2008, a fight was scheduled to take place at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, Mississippi, United States. Campbell's titles were not affected by the fact that Guzman weighed in more than three pounds over the weight ceiling. The Guzman camp backed out, and the match was called off due to Guzman's dehydrated after trying to make the weight.

Campbell resigned as a WBA lightweight champion on January 10, 2009, owing to questions about mandatory defences and sanctioning fees.

Campbell had a similar issue when Guzman was struggling with his weight, but he was also struggling to defend his IBF and WBO lightweight crowns against Ali Funeka on February 14, 2009. Campbell was also more than two pounds over the weight limit on weigh-in. As a result, he was stripped of both titles. The fight nevertheless went on as planned, Funeka may have won the IBF and WBO titles with a victory. Campbell was subsequently ranked 114-112, 115-111, and 113-113. Despite winning, Campbell was ineligible to regain the positions, which are now vacant. After the match, Campbell revealed that he would be moving to the 140 pound junior welterweight division.

Campbell weighed in on 140 pounds on August 1, 2009. Timothy Bradley, a titlist, has been titlist. Since failing to meet the lightweight maximum in his last fight against Ali Funeka, the Jacksonville native moved to the light welterweight division. The WBO light welterweight title was up for auction. The contest was held at the Aval Collegiate Casino in Rancho Mirage, California.

Campbell was only able to continue due to an internal eye injury exacerbated by Bradley's unintentional headbutt. Referee David Mendoza of California gave Bradley a TKO win. However, a replay showed that the injury was in fact caused by an accidental head collision, and therefore, there should be ruled a no decision. Since then, the decision has been reduced to a No Contest by the California State Athletic Commission, which has been postponed to a No Contest.

Campbell was released from Don King Productions in December 2009 and signed a new promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Campbell's lead trainer John David Jackson is a former world champion, and his company advisor, One Punch Productions, is a Campbell leader.

On May 15, 2010, Campbell defeated Victor Ortz at the Madison Square Garden in New York. The former undisputed champion fought for the underdog in the ring and eventually lost the match by unanimous vote. Campbell lost in an eight-round decision in Las Vegas to Walter Estrada, a journeyman whose record included only three victories over winless fighters in ten bouts between 2008 and 2010. Nate Campbell, a boxing legend, announced his retirement on November 29, 2010.

Nate's Unanimous Decision on April 21, 2011, after she came out of retirement to face unbeaten Danny Garcia.

Nate's interest in combat blasted Sherzod Nazarov in an 8-round UD, a month after winning in an 8-round UD. Campbell lost to Khabib Allakhverdiyev on September 25, 2011.

Nate defeated "Mermelada" Cayó by TKO in 9 rounds in the Dominican Republic on March 24, 2012.

Campbell was defeated by Briton Terry Flannigan in Sheffield, United Kingdom, when the game was called off after 4 rounds because Campbell pulled out when the scorecards were still behind.

Campbell is now a personal trainer in Jacksonville, Florida. He also appears on Experience The Galaxxy with Nate Campbell as the show host. The program appears to be a politically based program debating life in the African American Community. The show is broadcast live on four major platforms: YouTube, Periscope, Periscope, and Facebook Live.
