Michael Monroe Life

Kristian Fagerholm (born 17 June 1962), better known by his stage name Michael Monroe, is a Finnish rock musician and multi-instrumentalist who rose to fame as the frontman for all-star side projects, such as Demolition 23 and Jerusalem Slim (with Steve Stevens).

Early life

Michael Monroe was born on June 17th, 1962, the first "Makke" Fagerholm was born. Pentti Fagerholm (1935–2015) was a well-known Finnish radio personality and journalist. In his autobiography in Hanoi Rocks, one of the first times he was exposed to rock n' roll was when he saw Black Sabbath's 1970 Paris appearance on television. Alice Cooper, The New York Dolls, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Little Richard were among Monroe's favorite bands at the time. Monroe performed in Madness' band from 1976 to 1979. Monroe met guitarist Andy McCoy (then known as Antti Hulkko) during this period, while rehearsing in a basement of a church in Töölö; McCoy's band, Briard, was also rehearsing there at the time.

Monroe and McCoy played together in a band called Bolin for a brief period of time. Monroe then went on to play saxophone in Maukka Perusj's band, where he also met guitarist Nasty Suicide. Monroe auditioned for Pelle Miljoona Oy, but the band chose bassist Sami Yaffa despite the success of the audition.

Personal life

Monroe was never a big drug user or a big drinker while living in London, but he did start using amphetamine and opium in the 1980s and amphetamine in 2002, 2002, after his first wife died.

Michael Monroe has developed a close relationship with many music industry figures, including late Stiv Bators and Johnny Thunders, as well as Monroe's own Steven Van Zandt, who made Monroe's album with Demolition 23, Deborah Harry, Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Alice Cooper.

Many rock'n'roll artists and bands have been influenced by Michael Monroe and Hanoi Rocks: Slash had purchased tickets to the sold-out shows in Los Angeles that were cancelled due to Razzle's death. Both Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, as well as bands like Guns N' Roses, have claimed in public that they were all inspired by Hanoi Rocks. "The Hollywood scene changed in just one night after people saw the videos of Hanoi Rocks in a book called All Those Wasted Years," Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett says. After that, everyone was wearing the same hair, clothes, and make up as Monroe." Michael Monroe and Hanoi Rocks have often been credited as the founding fathers of Hollywood's glam-rock music, punk-, and hard rock bands such as Mötley Crüe, Jetboy, Los Angeles Guns, and Poison.

While working at CBS for Hanoi Rocks' Two Steps From The Move initiative, Monroe met his first wife Jude Wilder in 1985. The couple moved to Los Angeles and then to New York after they married in 1989. The couple migrated to Turku, a city in Finland, where Monroe moved after many years in the United States. Wilder died of intracranial hemorrhage on June 19, 2001. On July 3, 2003, Michael Monroe married Johanna, his current wife.

Michael Monroe Career

Career

Hanoi Rocks was a band that Monroe and his pal, guitarist Andy McCoy, had no interest in, but Pelle Miljoona Oy told Monroe that they should not start the band without him. Nasty Suicide, the band's rhythm guitarist, was the first member (besides Monroe) of the Hanoi line-up, and he would remain in the band until 1985. Andy McCoy left Pelle Miljoona Oy and joined Hanoi Rocks in 1980. McCoy brought bassist Sami Yaffa with him. Gyp Casino was later hired by the band.

The band's first album, Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks, was released in 1981, with the majority of the songs written by McCoy. Andy McCoy and Michael Monroe, also known as "The Muddy Twins," produced the album. Hanoi Rocks debuted their second studio album Oriental Beat in 1982, but the band later dismissed it as a disappointment, claiming that the album was mixed incorrectly by producer Pete Woolcroft.

The band sacked drummer Gyp Casino and recruited Nicholas Dingley, better known as Razzle, shortly after the album's debut. This line-up, which includes Michael Monroe, Andy McCoy, Nasty Suicide, Sami Yaffa, and Razzle, has been often referred to as the original and definitive line-up. The band has claimed that Razzle revived them. The band released Self Destruction Blues later this year, with Razzle on the front page, but he didn't play on the album because it was really a collection of old singles. For the first time, the band returned from Asia for the first time on the album tour.

The band returned to Mystery City in 1983, the next year. The band formed In 1984, when they met with producer Bob Ezrin and began recording on their fifth studio album Two Steps from the Move, which was the band's first recording contract to US markets. The album's name was "Silver Missiles and Nightingales," but it was changed before its release. Monroe has cited the album as one of the best glam rock albums of all time, and he has said he is "very proud of it."

Michael Monroe and Hanoi Rocks were among the most popular performers in the United Kingdom in 1984. Hanoi Rocks was named as the second best band in the world by the readers of the Sounds magazine, right after Marillion. "Underwater World" and "The album Two Steps from the Move" were selected as the fifth best single and album of the year. The televised concert by Hanoi Rocks in England was named as the second best concert video on record, and as stage performers, the group was named No. 1. 3. Michael Monroe was named "The Sex Symbol of the Year" by the year's Sex Symbol.

Kerrang!

Magazine readers rated Hanoi Rocks as the ninth most influential newcomer in the country, and their album was voted as the tenth best album of the year.

The readers of Kerrang!

Michael Monroe was voted the seventh best performer in the music industry, according to a recent poll.

Monroe fractured his ankle while on their first big tour in the United States, and a few dates had to be postponed. The band travelled to Los Angeles to spend some free time and train for their forthcoming sold-out shows. Any of the band members joined Mötley Crüe members for a party, but Monroe decided to remain in his hotel room and rest. Razzle and Neil got involved in a car accident that resulted in Razzle losing his life.

The band performed in Helsinki, Finland, after Razzle's death in a concert that was partly televised all over Europe as part of the 'Europa Go Go' initiative. Over 500 million viewers watched the show across Europe, and Terry Chimes' first public concert with their new drummer, Terry Chimes. It was also the last show of Hanoi Rocks for Sami Yaffa, who had to leave the band due to personal differences with McCoy. Rene Berg and Terry Chimes' demos were shot on record, but the band disbanded after a short tour of Poland, according to Michael Monroe. After the band had already broken up, one of the shows in Poland was recorded and later became the Rock and Roll Divorce album.

Monroe decided to start his solo career after Hanoi Rocks broke up in 1985, but first he needed to work with his good friend Stiv Bators. Bators and Monroe were invited by Steven Van Zandt to record backing vocals in London and then fly to New York to appear on his album "Sun City" and its music video in 1985. Both agreed and recorded backing vocals for the song, and both can be seen in the music video.

Monroe announced in December 1985 that he would migrate to New York, and in 1986, Monroe formed his first solo band. Nights Are So Long, his first solo album, came out in 1987. The album was a modest success, but it attracted major record labels: In 1988, Monroe signed to Mercury Records. In 1989, Monroe's second solo album, Not Fakin' It, was released. The album featured guest appearances by Monroe's associates and acquaintances, as well as Nasty Suicide's Steven Van Zandt, Ian Hunter and Nasty Suicide. Monroe's first album to be released globally debuted on the US Billboard Charts, at number 161 on the US Billboard Charts. Critics also gave the album high marks. The singles "Dead, Jail or Rock 'N' Roll" and "Man With No Eyes" were shot in London. In the music video for "Dead, Jail, or Rock 'N' Roll," Axl Rose appeared. Michael Monroe hosted MTV's Headbangers Ball, where he introduced the new music video to the world at that time.

When Not Fakin' When it was announced, Guns N' Roses' record company, UZI Suicide, was re-releasing Hanoi Rocks albums in America. In December 1989, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash appeared on Monroe's Los Angeles shows, performing the song "Looking at You." Steven Tyler, Aerosmith's lead singer, had also taken notice of Monroe and asked him to perform with Aerosmith at Les Paul's 75th birthday at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. Monroe performed saxophone on the album "Big Ten Inch Record" (Ash Gucci). He mainly spent the remainder of 1989 and 1990 touring.

Monroe appeared in two New Year's shows at the 70,000-seat Tokyo Dome in Japan on December 31, 1989 and 1990.

Monroe's solo career was not as successful as he'd expected, so he decided to form a new band in 1990. Former Billy Idol-guitarist Steve Stevens, Sami Yaffa, Greg Ellis, and Ian McLagan completed the band's name, Jerusalem Slim.

On the album "Bad Obsession," Guns N' Roses requested Monroe to appear on their Use Your Illusion Illusion I album, where he plays the harmonica and saxophone. "The Spaghetti Incident" was also on GNR's 1993 album. "Where he appeared on the front page of The Dead Boys' "Ain't It Fun"" is written. Monroe performed Honky Tonk Women on stage with Guns N' Roses and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones at the time.

Jerusalem Slim released an album titled Jerusalem Slim but it fell away in 1992 due to Monroe and Stevens' musical rivalry. Next, Monroe attempted to form Demolition 23, with Yaffa, Jimmy Clark, and ex Star Guitarist Jay Hening, who was eventually replaced by Nasty Suicide. Demolition 23. did sell an album titled Demolition 23, and the band toured well in Japan and Europe, for example, but Suicide revealed that they will be dropping out of the music market after Suicide revealed that they would not be returning to the music industry.

Monroe released four more solo albums in the 1990s and early 2000s before re-forming Hanoi Rocks with Andy McCoy.

McCoy and Monroe reformed Hanoi Rocks in 2002, with two new members on guitar and bass, as well as Lacu, Michael Monroe's solo career drummer. In 2003, Hanoi Rocks issued Twelve Shots on the Rocks. Hanoi Rocks released Another Hostile Takeover in 2005, replacing the two former members with Andy Christell on bass and Conny Bloom on guitar (both formerly of the Electric Boys). Street Poetry was released by the band in 2007. Andy McCoy and Michael Monroe of 2008 said that they had taken the band as far as they could, but that they had to break it down. In April 2009, Hanoi Rocks played 8 sold out farewell concerts at the Tavastia Club in Helsinki. Nasty Suicide, the band's original guitarist, appeared on three of the band's last shows as a special guest.

All Those Wasted Years, by Ari Väntänen, Michael Monroe's, and Andy McCoys' book All Those Wasted Years was published in Finland later this year, chronicling Hanoi Rocks from the start to the end.

Monroe performed in Helsinki and Tampere on the Duff McKagans Loaded band's sauna Open Air festival in June 2009. Monroe appeared at the Ruisrock festival with Ginger's band The Wildhearts on July 3, 2009. For the first time in many years with Sami Yaffa, the New York Dolls were on stage in Helsinki at the end of July. After these performances with Yaffa and Ginger, Monroe and Yaffa, we began to discuss the possibility of working together again. While playing in Alice Cooper's band in December 2009, Monroe met Ginger once more. At Alice Cooper's concert in Espoo, Finland, to perform "School's Out," Monroe performed "School's Out." Ginger and Monroe discussed the possibility of working together, and shortly thereafter, Monroe, Ginger, and Yaffa formed a band together, with Yaffa following shortly.

Michael Monroe announced his new band on January 25, 2010, including bassist Sami Yaffa, guitarist Ginger from The Wildhearts, Todd Youth from Danzig and Samhain on a second guitar, and drummer Jimmy Clarke on drums. Bam Margera of Jackass hosted the press conference. On March 11, the Michael Monroe band began touring in San Francisco's Paradise Lounge and then toured the United States until March 21. Todd Youth and Jimmy Clark were replaced by guitarist Steve Conte of New York Dolls and drummer Karl Rosqvist following some of the first shows.

Michael Monroe's band appeared at a variety of festival gigs around the world, including Helsinki Live in Finland with Guns N' Roses, the Sweden Rock Festival, and the Download Festival in England during the summer of 2010. The band appeared at the Ruisrock festival in Turku, Finland, where Slash was also on stage. Monroe appeared on stage with "We're Gonna Die" (from Slash's solo album) and "Up Around the Bend." Steve Conte could not perform and was banned from appearing at Ankkarock's Finnish festival, Nasty Suicide, the ex-Hanoi Rocks guitarist. This was the first time these three members of the original Hanoi Rocks to perform on the stage together since the early 1990s and the Demolition 23 tour. Michael Monroe appeared on Summer Sonic festivals in Tokyo and Osaka, where Slash was also performing. The two bands performed together again, sharing a stage for a few songs. During the performance of "We're All Gonna Die" Monroe broke two of his ribs while striking a metal barrel in front of the stage.

On the 28th of June 2010, the Michael Monroe band would be assisting Motörhead on their 35th anniversary UK tour.

The debut of Michael Monroe's new band, Another Night in the Sun, was released in September 2010. The album was recorded at Tavastia Club in Helsinki, Finland, and by Niko Bolas in Los Angeles (Keith Richards, Kiss, Spinal Tap). Richard Dodd, a Grammy winner who had worked with Tom Petty and The Dixie Chicks, mastered the album.

The band went into a recording studio in September 2010 to record their first studio album, Sensory Overdrive. Producer Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon) produced the album in Los Angeles, and it was released by him. "78," the album's first single, was announced in January, and it was scheduled for release on March 14th. The band also appeared in London, Brighton, Birmingham, Leeds, and Exeter as part of a lengthy UK tour for April 2010. Monroe's upcoming albums were released in September 2010 by Spinefarm Records / Universal Music.

Sensory Overdrive received the 2011 Classic Rock magazine award on November 9, 2011.

Michael Monroe revealed in fall 2012 that the band would be back in the studio recording a new album that would be released in 2013. Steven Van Zandt appeared on his radio show almost every week by July, with "Ballad of the Lower East Side" as the well-received lead single. Horns & Halos, the band's debut in the Finnish album charts, reached number one in four days and was named Gold in four days in Finland on August 23rd.

Dr. Dregen, a guitarist, had left the band to concentrate on his solo career as a result of his announcement on March 6, 2014. Rich Jones, a former Black Halos, Amen, and Ginger Wildheart guitarist, will take his place.
