Mateusz Klich Career

Club career

Born in Tarnów, Klich, the Ekstraklasa debuted in November 2008. He became a regular in Cracovia's starting eleven during the 2009-2010 season.

On June 14, 2011, he joined VfL Wolfsburg, a German side, on a three-year contract. Wolfsburg made Klich the most valuable player in Cracovia's club history when he was paid €1.5 million.

Klich was on loan to PEC Zwolle for half a season before deciding against making the transfer permanent for a €200,000 price, with Wolfsburg winning a repurchase option. He won the 2013-14 KNVB Cup in Zwolle, defeating Ajax 5–1 in the final, which also saw the team win Europa League qualification.

Wolfsburg tried to buy Klich in June 2014. However, he did not play in the Bundesliga during the first half of the season, after struggling to displace regular starters Kevin De Bruyne, Josuha Guilavogui, and Luiz Gustavo in the center midfield positions and was limited to the reserve team.

Klich joined Klich on January 2, 2015, in early January. The 1st German club to play in the Bundesliga. FC Kaiserslautern has been playing with him since he started signing a deal in summer 2018. The transfer fee was not disclosed.

He joined FC Twente on a three-year deal on August 26, 2016. He was assigned squad number 43 and made his Twente debut against SC Heerenveen on September 10, 2016. In a 1–1 draw against Heracles Almelo on October 2, he scored his first goal for the club. In his first season with the club, he scored six goals and four assists, leading FC Twente to a seventh-place finish in the Economia.

Following an initial offer that was turned down, Klich signed a three-year contract with Leeds United on June 23, 2017, owing to an undisclosed fee. He made his first-team debut against Port Vale on September 9th and his League debut against Sunderland 10 days later in a 2–0 win over Sunderland. In the pecking order, he discovered himself behind Kalvin Phillips, Eunan O'Kane, and Ronaldo Vieira. Kenneth Zohore scored his first and only League start for the season on September 26, 2017, with Klich slipping and losing control that resulted in a goal. Klich admitted that his unfortunate slip resulted in him being dismissed by then-manager Thomas Christiansen. He was used very sparsely after October.

On January 22, 2018, Klich joined Dutch club FC Utrecht on a six-month loan from Leeds United until the end of the 2017-18 season.

Klich was put on loan at FC Utrecht until the end of the season on January 22, 2018. Klich made his debut against Excelsior on February 4, 2018. He quickly recovered his form at Utrecht, where he gave his assistance against Roda JC in a 4–1 victory on February 18th.

During the loan period, Klich impressed for Utrecht and helped them finish fifth and into the Eivisie Europa League playoffs. When asked whether he'd return to Leeds, he said he was 99% positive because he had unfinished business.'

Klich made his first appearance at Leeds in the pre-season friendly 1–1 draw against York City on July 20, where he appeared in a new centre-back role before reverting to a deep-lying playmaker role in the second half. In the first game of the 2018-19 season, he scored his first league goal for Leeds in a 3–1 victory, his first competitive game for the club in almost seven months. In a 4–1 victory over Derby County on August 11, Klich scored his second goal in five games and was promoted to the Poland squad for the second time in four years after impressing for Leeds at the start of the 2018-19 season.

Klich scored a "controversial goal" on April 28 (his ninth of the season). Jonathan Kodjia was injured while playing on the ground with an injury during a 1–1 draw. Tyler Roberts passed the ball to Klich, who took it up the left wing and put the ball into the far corner through Jed Steer. The goal, as the first of the season, ignited pandemonium, with Villa's Conor Hourihane, Ahmed Elmohamady, Neil Taylor, and Leeds' Patrick Bamford caught up in a brawl that culminated in several others from both teams and was eventually broken up by referee Stuart Attwell, Elland Road stewards, and other players. Attwell gave Anwar El Ghazi's peripherally involved Anwar Ghazi a straight red card (which was later reversed by The FA) and head coach Marcelo Bielsa's reaction to his players was, in the interest of fairness and after discussing with Villa boss Dean Smith, that his team should allow an unchallenged equalizer to be scored. Albert Adomah nearly walked the ball into the net unchallenged by ten Leeds players, with only Pontus Jansson leading chase and nearly disposing the forward.

At the club's annual ceremony on April 28th, he received both the Leeds United Goal of the Season award and the Sheffield Wednesday Trophy. In a 3–2 loss to Ipswich Town on May 5, Klich scored his 10th goal of the season.

During the 2018–19 Leeds United F.C., he was a member of the Leeds United F.C. Klich played 50 games in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and nine assists, becoming the club's only ever-present player in the league, after losing out of the automatic promotion window after losing to ten man Wigan Athletic on April 19th. Leeds qualified for the playoffs against sixth-placed Derby County, with Leeds falling 1–0 win at Pride Park in the second leg, turning Leeds down to 10 men after the red card of Gaetano Berardi, and Leeds defeated Leeds in the final against Aston Villa.

On August 13, Klich scored his first goal of the 2019-20 season in the EFL Cup against Salford City, resulting in a 3–0 victory. In Leeds' 2–0 victory over Barnsley on September 15, he scored his second goal of the season.

Klich renewed his four-and-a-half-year deal with Leeds on September 9, 2019. He had started every league game – 92 games – before Marcelo Bielsa took over as boss in 2018 and his three-year contract with Leeds was due to end in the summer of 2020. Klich defeated Middlesbrough 4–0 on Sunday, with two goals on October 30th. Leeds made it to the top of the Championship table and ended their five-game winning streak.

Klich won the EFL Championship Goal of the Month for November for his long range strike against Middlesbrough on December 19th.

Since the successful start of the season in March 2020, the English professional football season was postponed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on association football.

In a enthralling 4–3 loss to the reigning champions, Klich made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on September 12, 2020, scoring his team's third goal. In Leeds' second game of the season, he scored again and assisted with an assist, defeating Fulham at home 4–3. He continued his good form with an assist in Leeds' 3–0 victory over Aston Villa, and scored a penalty in a 2–1 loss to West Ham United.

After Luis Diaz' goal was wrongly disallowed, Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham would not have allowed Liverpool to score because the "defective system doesn't exist."

Ange Postecoglou has denied rumors that his side may have allowed Liverpool to score an uncontested goal after Luis Diaz's goal was wrongly disallowed against them last week. Spurs beat the Reds 2-1 in the 96th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a tumultuous match that culminated in two tense red cards for Liverpool. Diaz's first half strike was called off after Simon Hooper had dismissed him as offside, but VAR acknowledged the Colombian as onside but mistakenly beholding the goal.

In MLS, Mateusz Klich reenacts Wayne Rooney's legendary 'knockout' Manchester United celebrations

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 21, 2023
Mateusz Klich, who suffered a humiliating blow to LA Galaxy, narrated an iconic boxing tribute of his mentor, Wayne Rooney, after assisting DC United to a 3-0 MLS win on Saturday night. After an unfortunate goalkeeper Jonathan Bond's mistake, who spilled a cross out into his own six-yard box, former Leeds midfielder Klich converted from close range for his team's third goal. As the midfielder raced over to the corner to celebrate, he began shadow boxing before falling slowly backwards as if he had been knocked out, ostensibly mimicing Rooney's celebration after a goal for Manchester United in the 2014-15 season.
