Early life and family

Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu was born in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India, on August 9, 1975. He is the fourth of the five children of Telugu actor Krishna and Indira after Ramesh Babu, Padmavathi, and Manjula, as well as Priyadarshini. Their family is from Burripalem, a village in Andhra Pradesh, and they hail from Burripalem. Babu spent the majority of his childhood in Madras under the custody of his maternal grandmother Durgamma and the remainder of his family. Ramesh Babu continued to look forward after Mahesh Babu's academic success since Krishna was occupied with his film commitments. Babu used to play cricket at the VGP Golden beach in Madras with his siblings. Krishna used to spend time with him, making it clear that his films' shootings would take place at the Vogue Universal Kingdom during the weekends.

To ensure a peaceful environment, Krishna made it clear that no of his children would reveal their name during their schooling. He was educated at St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Chennai, where actor Karthi was his classmate. In an interview, actor Vijay and he have been longtime friends and studied at the same university before establishing themselves in their respective film industries. Babu was a better student than average. He received a bachelor's degree in commerce from Loyola College, Chennai. After graduating, he met with director L. Satyanand in Vishakhapatnam for additional training in acting, which spanned three to four months. Since he was unable to read and write Telugu, he used to memorise the dialogues given by his producers during his films' dubbing phase.

Personal life

Babu began to date his co-star Namrata Shirodkar during a shoot at B. Gopal's Vamsi in Australia. After being in a four-year marriage, they decided to marry, and Manjula convinced Krishna that they should take the decision. During the shooting of Athadu, they were married on 10 February 2005 at the Marriott Hotel in Mumbai. The couple's first child was born in Hyderabad on August 31. Gautham Krishna, a premature boy, was in serious distress at birth and was in danger during his birth. Since the doctors treated him in time, his health stayed stable. Shirodkar gave birth to a child they named Sitara on July 20, 2012. They stored her stem cells using stem cell banking to ensure a higher immunity level prior to her delivery.

Babu is the fourth child in a family of five children. Ramesh Babu, his elder brother, was a film director and also an actor. Padmavathi, Mahesh Babu's elder sister, is married to Galla Jayadev, an industrialist and Member of the Indian Parliament from the Telugu Desam Party. Manjula, his elder sister, is a film producer, director, and an actor. Priyadarshini, his younger sister, is married to Sudheer Babu, who made his Telugu debut as an actor.

Vijaya Nirmala, a Telugu actress and filmmaker, was Babu's step-mother, and actor Naresh is his step-brother.

Babu's annual income goes to charities, and the bulk of his philanthropic efforts are unveiled because he likes them to be so. In August 2013, he joined Farhan Akhtar's Men Against Rape and Discrimination (MARD) campaign and gave his voice to a Telugu translation of a poem by Javed Akhtar. He was appointed as the goodwill ambassador for Heal-a-Chil Foundation, a non-profit group that provides financial assistance to terminally ill children's parents to help with medical expenses. In October 2014, he gave a 25 percent grant to a relief fund managed by Andhra Pradesh's chief minister for the rebuilding of areas that were destroyed during Cyclone Hudhud. Later in life, Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala contributed 25 lakh to the cause.

Babu will adopt Burripalem, a minor panchayat in Tenali, according to Jayadev, who will address basic needs of the community, such as potable drinking water and improved roads and drainage systems. Babu also revealed that he is working with Telangana's Rural Development Minister K. T. Rama Rao to relocate another village in Mahbubnagar district.

In September 2004, Babu and director Gunasekhar attended a march at Warangal organized by his supporters for Arjun's promotional activities. He and his followers were reportedly searched and assaulted their owners who were selling unauthorised copies of the film. He was the principal suspect in 524 cases, as well as sections 428 (criminal trespass), section 427 (mischief) and section 366 (kidnap) were found on him. Later, a delegation from Telugu's film industry, including his father Krishna, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Allu Aravind, and D. Suresh Babu, pleaded with the then chief minister, Y. S. Rajase Reddy, to intervene in this situation. Babu said that although lawsuits had been lodged against him on the basis of inaccurate information, no one had been charged against him, nor had a single lawsuit been filed against the individual dealing in bootlegged CDs, which he described as "funniest" stuff. Throughout the series, actor Pawan Kalyan openly endorsed Babu. Babu pleaded guilty of being in the district court in September 2004 and appeared in court again in April 2006. After the final hearing in July 2006, Babu and the others were cleared.

Mahesh Babu Career

Acting career

Babu visited the sets of the Telugu film Needa (1979), where its director Dasari Narayana Rao shot a few scenes of him as part of the story in the presence of his former brother Ramesh. Needa made his debut as a young actor on his debut as a child actor. After watching Babu on the set, director Kodi Ramakrishna suggested that Babu play the protagonist's brother during the shooting of Poratam (1983) at Vaini Studios. Babu, who had been initially afraid, agreed to appear in the film after being persuaded by the film's crews. He went on to appear in Sankharavam (1987), Bazaar Rowdy (1988), Mugguru Kodukulu (1989), and Gudachari 117 (1989). He appeared in Koduku Diddina Kapuram (1989) and played two parts. Babu appeared in Bala Chandrudu (1990), as well as Anna Thammudu (1990). He resumed college studies later in life.

Babu made his debut as a lead actor in the film Raja Kumarudu, directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and co-starring Priety Zinta in 1999. The film was commercially successful, and people began to associate him with the name Prince. The film was shot in 80 centers and in 44 centers for a 50-day run. Raja Kumarudu received a share of 10.51 Crores from Andhra Pradesh. Prince No. No. 2 was dubbed in Hindi as Prince No. 1 at the time. Kaadhal Vennila is a Tamil word that means 1 and a half. During January 2017, Ivan Oru Thunichalkaran's film was dubbed and released theatrically in Tamil. He received the Nandi Award for the Best Male Debut. Yuvaraju and Vamsi followed him in two films the following year. Babu appeared in Krishna Valiant's Murari the next year after their poor showing at the box office. Murari was regarded as an important film in his career, and the part in it was one of his favorites. Murari's commercial success earned him the Nandi Special Jury Award. Although Takkari Donga and Bobby's debut at the box office failed, Babu received his second Nandi Special Jury Award for his work in the former.

In 2003, Babu had two films out, the first being Gunasekhar's Okkadu co-starring Bhumika Chawla, which went on to become the year's highest grossing Telugu film, grossing 23 crores at the box office. For his role in the film, he received his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. The other film in Tejam was Rakshita co-starring Rakshita. In a Telugu cinema, the film was known for introducing Dolby EX surround systems. Despite the fact that the film was a commercial failure, Babu received praise from the critics for his role in the film, with Vijayalaxmi of Rediff.com naming him as the only reason to watch the film's second half, which she described as a common tale of vendetta. For his role in the film, he received his first Nandi Best Actor Award.

Manjula produced Naani, his next film, which was directed by S. J. Surya and starring Amisha Patel. Although Naani's simultaneously shot a Tamil version of New starring a different cast was commercially lucrative, the box office failed. For his role in his forthcoming film, Arjun, directed by Gunasekhar and produced by Ramesh, he received the Nandi Special Jury Award. Both Babu and Manjula, who took a short break in Goa before resuming their other obligations, were distraught by Naani's demise. He wanted to appear in Athadu, a co-starring Trisha Krishnan, who had been scripted before the filming of Naani and Arjun had begun. Athadu became one of the year's most popular films. The film was a financially profitable venture for the manufacturers and distributors alike. Since being awarded the Nandi Best Actor Award for his work in the role of a hired assassin, Babu's career flourished. Athadu's box office earned a share of 22 crores. Mahesh Babu is a fashionable and brilliant killer, according to Idlebrain.

In 2006, Babu coproduced the film Pokiri, which was jointly produced by Jagannadh and Manjula. Pokiri became the highest grossing Telugu film of all time by the end of its run, and was shown at the 7th International Film Awards in Dubai, on a budget of 10 crore and shot within six months. Babu was praised for his appearance, with Y. Sunita Chowdary of The Hindu advising that "Mahesh's understated success in Pokiri enables him to reclaim the role of a hero without wasting more controversial recent career choices." For the second time, he was named Best Actor – Telugu. His new film, Sainikudu, co-starring Trisha, was released in the year of a huge anticipation, but it fell at the box office.

Babu appeared in the film Athidhi, co-starring Amrita Rao on her Telugu debut last year. Mahesh Babu's brother Ramesh produced the film. UTV Motion Pictures bought the film's distribution rights for 18.5 crore, the film's first Telugu film venture. Babu provided the voice-over for the film Jalsa directed by Trivikram Srinivas in 2008.

Babu took a break from films for seven months after Athidhi's debut; two months later, he signed Khaleja, but the break was unintentionally extended for two years due to various delays. Babu's grandmother and his wife Namrata's parents died at this time. Krishna was worried about Babu's career as the film's shoot was postponed for so long. Khaleja received mixed reviews from critics upon its debut and was a commercial failure in India. However, it did a good job at the overseas box office. Rediff's rating was given a 3 out of 5 stars. "The Mahesh-Trivikram duo produces a product that is watchable, amusing with good humor, a few well-orchestrated action sequences and songs, and there's a little bit to take home as well." Mahesh's performance has earned him the audience's adoration. Mahesh is the life of the film, whether it's dialogue, his dance, or emotions, he's effortless. By Film Companion, the film is listed as one of the "25 Greatest Telugu Films Of The Decade."

Babu worked with Srinu Vaitla on the film Dookudu, which was based on the 2003 German tragicomedy film Good Bye, Lenin. Since its release, co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the film received rave feedback and became one of the year's biggest grossing films. On the first day of its debut, Dookudu had the biggest opening for a Telugu film and had a share of 10.11 crore and a gross of 12.58 crore. Dookudu was the "most hit you've never heard of," according to the Los Angeles Times. Babu received the Best Actor Award at the 2012 Nandi Awards ceremony for his role in the film. At the 59th Filmfare Awards South and 1st South Indian International Movie Awards ceremonies, he also received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. Income Tax Department investigators raided Babu's Jubilee Hills residence after the film's gross reached the $100 million mark, discovering that he would be receiving more than 200,000 euros for his next projects. In its lifetime, the film earned more than 57.4 crore and grossed more than 100 crore in its lifetime. "Dookudu is a typical Srinu Vytla film with a generous sprinkling of comedy," Suresh Kavirayani of The Times of India rated it 4 out of 5 stars. His plot manages to keep the audience interested until the end of the film. This film is a blessing for not only Mahesh Babu, but also Tollywood, which is in dire need of a boost following the recent spate of box office debacles. In Dookudu, Srinu Vytla and Mahesh Babu have emerged winners.

In the film Businessman, co-starring Kajal Aggarwal and directed by Puri Jagannadh, he later played a mafia kingpin with a mistardious personal agenda. Babu was praised by the critics for his role in the film, with Y. Sunita Chowdary of The Hindu writing, "The film has no frills, no vulgar wastage, and the hero is practically in every frame; the comedian's voice is heard only in the film; the comedian also steals the comedian's job." Mahesh says it "in a straight manner." On the first day, the global box office took in a share of 13.78 crore, the highest number in terms of first-day collections. Businessman was one of the year's best grossing Telugu films. At the box office, the businessman earned a share of 41 crore. At both the 60th Filmfare Awards South and the 2nd South Indian International Film Awards ceremonies, he was nominated for Best Actor – Telugu. Babu had been named second highest-paid actor in South India by then, after Rajinikanth.

Seethamma Vaino Chettu, who had scripted during the pre-production phase of Dookudu, was then shot by Babu for Srikanth Addala's Seethamma Vaintu. Dagrateh, a co-starring Anjali and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, appeared in Seethamma Vaino, the first Telugu multistarrer film to be released in the last twenty-five years. The film, which was released in January 2013, was one of the highest grossing Telugu films of the year, and it marked Babu's hat-trick of hit films. The film, directed by Sangeetha Devi Dundoo of The Hindu, was a "delightful family drama with its celebration of family bonds, love, and marriage laced with laughter," and Addala "want to leave his audience with a thought," and "will avoid skirmishes that can sour family bonds." Dundoo praised Guhan's cinematography as one of the film's highlights, as well as praise its performances. At the 61st Filmfare Awards South ceremony and the 3rd South Indian International Film Awards ceremony, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. The same year, he was the voice-over for Srinu Vainla's Baadshah. Seethamma Vaino Chettu's second-highest-grossing Telugu film of the year came with a 60,000 percent distributor share.

In 2014, Babu had two debuts, the first of which being Sukumar's 1: Nenokkadine, an action thriller focusing on a celebrity's hallucinations due to his parents' assassination and the discovery of a special brand of rice. In this film, Kriti Sanon played the female lead, marking her debut as an actor. 1: Nenokkadine was released on a budget of about 70 crores, 1: The first was announced with high hopes, but the critics gave it mixed feedback, with the loss of around a million dollars. However, Babu's appearance earned acclaim, with critics describing it as one of his best performances. At the 4th South Indian International Movie Awards, he was also nominated for the Best Actor – Telugu. Grossing over $1.32 million,1: At the United States box office at the time, Nenokkadine was the fourth-highest-grossing Telugu film in history. "How often do we get to see a Telugu film in which the protagonist and supporting characters are also required to think and distinguish between events unfolding in real and imagined spaces?" Sangeetha Devi Dundooo wrote on The Hindu. The film "visually stunning" film "1 Nenokkadine is called a "spectually stunning" film. On a budget of 70 crore, the film earned a distributor share of about 28.9 crore. According to Film Companion, the film is one of the "25 Greatest Telugu Films Of The Decade." Even though the company's gross, Aagadu, directed by Srinu Vaitla and co-starring Tamannaah, flopped at the box office. Karthik Pasupulate of The Times of India rated the film 3 out of 5 actors and said "Dookudu 2.0" in operating system parlance, referring to the Aagadu "Dookudu 2.0" in operating system parlance. The end product, according to Pasupulate, has more resembled a remake of Dookudu with a "much louder Mahesh Babu, more banal parodies, and a few superficial changes in the screenplay" and that the end result is "more slapstick than amusing."

Babu worked with Koratala Siva on the action drama film Srimanthudu co-starring Shruti Haasan. G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment Pvt, a newly formed company, co-produced the film. Ltd is a film company that produces his first film. He decided to do so in order to control the film's budget, and in exchange for a percentage of the proceeds in lieu of remuneration, he agreed to do so. Srimanthudu opened to promising criticism from critics on August 7th, and he received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu at the 63rd Filmfare Awards South, highlighting his revival. According to Sethumadhavan N. of Bangalore Mirror, Srimanthudu would not have been as effective if it did not have Mahesh Babu, who is at his charming best, and adding that he "underplays the emotional scenes, making them a treat to watch."

The film was a commercial success, grossing almost 200,000 crore worldwide on a budget of 40-70 crore, becoming the second-highest grossing Telugu film of all time and the first grossing Telugu-language-only film of the time. Many actors, bureaucrats, and politicians have announced plans to improve backward villages and boosted the adoption of villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh after the film's release. Burripalem, Babu's hometown village, has been adopted by the man himself.

Babu appeared in the film Brahmotsavam co-starring Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Pranitha Subhash, which was also featured in Addala's Brahmotsavam. The film, which was originally intended as a bi-lingual version, would have been Babu's first straight Tamil film. However, the scheme was modified later on due to the Telugu box office's flop, and the film was not released in Tamil. Though the film failed at the box office, the Deccan Chronicle announced that Mahesh Babu was the company's saving grace. The film's lack of a convincing plot was criticized by the public. Babu said that this was an error of judgment, in that he had chosen the wrong person.

He appeared in the Telugu-Tamil bilingual Spyder, directed by A. R. Murugadoss, which opened his Tamil cinema debut and grossed over 113 crore at the box office. S. J. Surya and Mahesh Babu's performances, especially the former, were praised by reviewers, who sluggishly dismissed the film's script, screenplay, and direction. Sunita Chowdary of The Hindu said, "Spyder starts off well, but the director's imagination goes overboard only to turn a purpose-driven plot into a work of travesty." "The narrator" says it was an accident.

Bharat Ane Nenu, directed by Koratala Siva and co-starring Kiara Advani, was his next film. He played the role of a Chief Minister in this film. It was the second highest-grossing film of the year, grossing more than 172 crore. "Mahesh Babu, Koratala Siva provide an intense political drama," Hemanth Kumar of Firstpost wrote. "He (Siva) has proved yet again that there is a lot of drama when a normal guy takes an unusual route," Kumar said. Bharat may have become the state's mess, but it's Mahesh Babu who gives a long lasting impression at the end. The film gets two big thumbs up. It's more than what it promises by giving 4 stars out of 5 out of 5. Maharshi (2019), directed by Vamshi Paidipally and co-starring Pooja Hegde, earned a total of 175 crore worldwide. The film owes a lot to Mahesh Babu's decision to drop his role, and he makes you believe in his characterization so much that it doesn't sound like fiction, according to Hemanth Kumar of Firstpost. His flamboyance in the college sequences and his maturity in which he skipped off the village segments is notable. At the 68th National Film Awards, Babu received his fourth honor for Best Actor – Telugu.

Sarileru Neevvaru's 2020 film Sarileru Neevvaruu's gross box office grossed 260 crores, making it one of the top-grossing Telugu films. Sarileru Neevvaru packages were described as a slew of humour and urgency for Babu to kick the ball out of the park by Hemanth Kumar of Firstpost. Everything else is either a bonus or a distraction. In January 2021, he began filming for Sarkaru Valiant Paata, marking his first filming relationship with director Parasuram. Criticals mixed the film's praise in May 2022. Despite the fact that the screenplay and story were criticized, Babu's appearance in the film earned raves from various commentators, including The Hindu, Hindustan Times, India Today, and Pinkvilla.

Babu is the subject of two new films that are being produced in various stages of development. Babu is set to reunite with Trivikram Srinivas for their third collaboration, dating back to April 2022. He has also agreed to appear in S. S. Rajamouli's untitled film, which is scheduled to begin production in 2023. The film is said to be a jungle adventure set in Africa.
