Lucy Spraggan Career

Career

Spraggan was named runner up of the Urban, Pop & Acoustic Category of Live and Unsigned in July 2011, finishing third overall in the competition. Spraggan's prizes, which were awarded by Live and Unsigned for her success in the competition, consisted of a festival slot at Osfest and a slot at Australia's 'Go Connect' Festival. Live and Unsigned provided Spraggan with a number of replacement awards, including: a string of guest act spots at Live and Unsigned and Open Mic UK shows around the country, a new website, and a music video shoot for her single Last Night, which attracted over 55,000 viewers.

Spraggan's album Top Room at the Zoo was released independently on October 20th. In an interview, she said that the majority of her album's songs were inspired by a short-lived affair with an older woman of 27 that occurred when Spraggan visited America at the age of 18.

Spraggan performed as a guest artist or a participant in the show during this time. "Open Mic UK is a fantastic way to grow your fan base to thousands of new followers," Spraggan said in an interview. Spraggan was selected by several festival promoters to appear at their festivals, including London Summer Jam, Osfest, Strawberry Fields Festival, and Cockermouth Rock Festival as a result of attending these performances.

On July 13, 2012, she unveiled the single "Tea and Toast" on July 13. Spraggan auditioned for the ninth season of The X Factor, which was on display at the Zoo on August 25, 2012. She performed her own song "Last Night" from Top Room at the Zoo. After performing the song, she gained a place at bootcamp, but the audience at the Manchester auditions erupted for more. On The Xtra Factor, her second song, which was a Beyoncé adaptation of "Halo" was shown. The song climbed to Number 70 on the UK Singles Chart and climbed to Number 2 on iTunes shortly after the performance was shown. However, it was soon removed from iTunes thanks to The X Factor's request. Greg James revealed on August 29, 2012, that "Last Night" was at number 5 on the Official Chart Update, despite the song being taken down from iTunes, her album Top Room at the Zoo was at number 7 on the Official Chart Update as well. On September 2, 2012 "Last Night" entered the UK Singles Chart at number 11 and Top Room at the Zoo debuted at number 22 on the UK Albums Chart, ranked # 22.

At bootcamp, Spraggan performed "Moves like Jagger," but Maroon 5's "awkward" and "messy" were described as "awkward" and "messy." She returned to the stage with a mix-up of songs that she adored and meant a lot to her. Tulisa'sa eventually said that she wanted to hear one of her songs, so Spraggan performed "Tea and Toast," referring to a real couple. When she finished the performance, she burst into tears as she received a standing ovation from the audience and the judging panel.

She made it to the live shows as one of three female singers selected by mentor Tulisa. Spraggan was sick in week 4 and made it straight through to week 5. She opted to leave the tournament on November 3rd because she was still too ill to participate.
