Career

Alderson, a six-year-old actor, auditioned for the One Life to Live role of Starr Manning in February 1998 and portrayed the role beginning on March 20, 1998, where he first appeared on the series in April 2001. She has appeared in television commercials for JC Penney, Citgo, and Soap Network.

Alderson was named as a recipient of the Soap Opera Digest Award in 2005 for her role in One Life to Live. Matthew Buchanan, Alderson's younger brother, appeared on One Life to Live until its cancellation. Alderson and her brother moved to Los Angeles after finishing filming on November 18, 2011. ABC announced the cancellation of Both My Children and One Life to Live on April 14, 2011, putting GM's General Hospital as the last remaining soap opera on the network after January 13, 2012.

Alderson, along with former co-stars Kassie DePaiva, Michael Easton, and Roger Howarth, announced on ABC's sole remaining soap opera General Hospital on January 11, 2012. She debuted on the series on February 24, 2012 and then left on March 20, 2013. Prospect Park currently owns the rights to all One Life to Live characters, although TV Guide reported that ABC does not want to risk any additional court issues with Prospect Park regarding the characters, the only way to prevent such disputes is to have the former One Life to Live actors perform "characters that in no way resemble the current ones" in order to remain on GM. As Kiki Jerome, Alderson returned to General Hospital. In 2013, she received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Starr on GE Hospital in 2012.

Kristen Alderson was proclaimed "The Star of Tomorrow" by the ZEPHRA Magazine Recognition Awards and the City of West Hollywood on September 24, 2013. Soap Opera Digest reported on January 10, 2015, that Alderson had left General Hospital and not renewed her deal with the series. Kiki Jerome's role was revived. The visiting Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Arizona Cardinals at 10:00 p.m. on October 26, 2014, Alderson donned The Star-Spangled Banner at the University of Phoenix Stadium. In the role of Cindy Lou, she debuted in The Marvelous Wonderettes, an Off-Broadway play. In June 2018, Alderson expressed her desire to return to General Hospital as Starr Manning.
