Kid Ink Career

Career

Brian Todd Collins performed hip-hop beats and tracks in his teenage years. When he said: "These were writers and writers who were writing for other people in all sorts of genres," he cites Pharrell Williams and Swizz Beatz as one of his inspiration for the company's work ethic with the production and songwriting. It just gave me an open ear for many styles of music, and that's how I approached it. In 2008, he received his first genuine production credit for a Nipsey Hussle single. Collins began rapping full throttle shortly after adopting the stage name Rockstar. Collins unveiled his first official mixtape, titled World Tour, on February 1, 2010. The mixtape attracted some of the interest of a radio jockey, DJ Ill Will, the maker of HotNewHipHop, after it was released. He later signed to Tha Alumni Group's name, as well as its joint name, 88 Classic. In honor of a label-mate, DJ Rockstar, Collins shortened his stage name to Kid Ink.

Collins' second mixtape, Crash Landing, was released in 2011. Roscoe Dash, Ty Dolla Signing, and Meek Mill, among others, appear on the mixtape. Ink's third mixtape, Daydreamer, was released in digital download during the summer of 2011. Cory Gunz, Maejor Ali, Ray J, Sean Kingston, and Bow Wow among others appear on the mixtape.
