As audiences become 'numb' to profanities, the top four most foul-mouthed television shows: How The Thick of It, Peaky Blinders, and Succession are leading the way in television swearing

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 12, 2023
The Wire, Orange Is Succession As it reached a new high, New Black, The Thick of It, and Peaky Blinders were all on screen today. The number of swear words across 60,000 TV shows and films dating back to 1985 has risen from less than 5,000 this year to more than 60,000 last year. Based on statistics gathered by US recommendation service Enjoy Movies Your Way, the word 'f***' has been used on screen more than 22,000 times this year. Last year, the word was used for the first time, a sad figure considering that just one year had more than 10,000 uses before 2013. It was only 511 people in 1975, when it was only 511. According to the figures collected by engineers using artificial intelligence, the word's***' has grown from 484 in 1985 to nearly 11,000 this year. Succession came in first with 235 expletives, according to a separate review by language-learning portal Preply of the final episodes of 50 of the top-rated series on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB). With 127, The Wire was first followed. The next highest tally came from Netflix's women's prison drama Orange is the New Black, followed by British shows The Thick of It and Peaky Blinders.
