Juliet Simms Career

Career

Juliet Simms, the frontwoman and guitarist for the band Automatic Loveletter from 2006 to 2011, releasing four EPs and two full-length albums before disbandment in late 2011. Automatic Loveletter's debut album, Truth or Dare, was released on June 22, 2010, followed by the album Kids Will Take Their Monsters On, which was released as an independent record label, Paper & Plastick.

Automatic Loveletter was formed with Juliet Simms on guitar and lead vocals, Daniel Currier on drums, and Tommy Simms on drums, as well as producer Tommy Simms on drums and producing, with bassist Sean Noll in Tommy's home studio in the Tampa Bay area. Stars and Scars was first released in December 2005 and recorded its first song together, after the band was named after the band but Juliet Simms wrote the song. They also wrote "Tin Lizzy," a Tommy Simms song.

Juliet Simms acoustically laid down all of the songs she had been writing over the last three years for consideration of her first major label album. Allison Hagendorf, the host of Fuse TV's The Pop TV Show, moved to Epic Records, Juliet Simms joined Automatic Loveletter, but Epic struggled with the Sony BMG 2005 Payola Scandal and internal struggles in 2007, dropping over 70 bands in 2007. Automatic Loveletter was not discontinued, but it was also not planned for the forthcoming year and a half with the drummer's Ford Excursion and burning their own copies of their Epic -produced slip covers to help finance their tours.

Automatic Loveletter was released in 2007 with producer Matt Squire (Panic! Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, Cute Is What We Want, The Cab, and The Maine) are among the Disco's favorites. "He challenged me and I challenged him," Juliet Simms said. "I felt very secure, and it's when the best of me comes out." The entire time was playful and amusing, and that's what music is about — having a good time." Juliet Simms brought her songbook to Matt Squire, who whittled them down and crafted them to fit together, with some songs taking entirely different directions. For example, "The Answer" was originally a ballad but later became one of the album's most upbeat numbers. On the record, Daniel Currier and lead guitarist Joe Nelson appeared on the record, Sean Noll officially joining just before some of the band's first tours together, and Tommy Simms occasionally tours with the band to play lead or rhythm guitar in larger venues and outdoor concerts. In 2008, the band appeared on both the main Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left.

"The Answer," "Parker," "Hush" and "Make-up Smeared Eyes) were among the tracks on their first official EP release in Recover 2007.

But after the tour, they were told to keep touring and asked by then President Charlie Walk to write more upbeat songs. Instead, Juliet Simms' "Black Ink Revenge" was a fan favorite but was turned down many times for re-write until it became "My Goodbye" on the track off the forthcoming Sony release. "I had been signed to Epic for three years, I toured with my completely broke band and was feeling like I disappointed my fans who had been promised music for more than a year," I sat in my room for four days, re-writing and re submitting the song for the first time five times." I like "My Goodbye" a lot, but it was the result of a lot of anxiety and the eagerness to have an album out," the singer says. "My Goodbye," "The Day that Saved Us," and "Hush" were quickly released as another self-titled EP right before Epic Records' final chapter, which fired all the performers except Daniel Currier, shortly before the first headlining tour. Epic held auditions for new members, recruited Jacob Fatoroochi, James Bowen, and Wayne Miller, then halfway through the tour, Juliet Simms told her that all of the band's salary was withheld and the band was dropped. Despite this humiliating setback, the new hired guys banded up and continued on to complete the tour, and Automatic Loveletter continued to sell out locations like the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles and San Francisco. "It was so liberating." I had some of the best shows on record ever after weeping my eyes out for a few hours. The band was picked up by Sony and Juliet Simms shortly after and was asked to write for a new album by Josh Abraham almost immediately.
