Montes received a lot of attention in her first significant role and breakthrough role in the remake of Mara Clara (2010–11), after which she made her film debut in the family drama Way Back Home (2011). Katerina Alcantara, the critically acclaimed romance drama, and Muling Buksan Ang Puso (2013) as Sarah Beltran, after Mara Clara.

Mona Hidalgo, a fictional actress of the period drama Ikaw Lamang (2014), received a Gawad Tang law Award for Best Actress and Best Drama Supporting Actress.

Montes later received her second Gawad Tang law Award for Best Actress and received a nomination for Best Drama Actress in the PMPC's second category. Kara Dela Rosa and Sara Suarez, identical twin sisters, completed the melodrama Doble Kara (2015-17).

Early life

Julia Montes was born in Balican, Philippines, on March 19, 1995, to Gemma Hautea and German father Martin Schnittka. Schnittka left them when Montes was still a child, and only her deaf mother raised her with the help of her grandmother, Flory Hautea. Patrick and Paolo are her two younger brothers. Education, she says, is one of the most important aspects of a healthy life, and she hopes to continue to work not just for herself but also for her family and others. Montes has other relatives in Germany. She graduated from high school at Blessed Hope Christian School in 2011 with good grades.

Montes began attending auditions and modeling companies at the age of 5 years old. She recalls the challenges she and her grandmother endured: from traveling from school to shooting, and missing a large amount of family time in the process until she was featured in a milk brand, chocolate snack, and fast food chain endorsements. However, she denied ever competing with others and was just in the entertainment industry out of necessity. Montes outlined her aspirations as a child, saying, "Since I was a youth, I only had three aspirations: to be a soldier, a chef, and a flight attendant."

Personal life

Montes and her fellow actress Yam Concepcion completed a culinary course at the Center for Culinary Arts, Manila, in June 2015. She is a practicing Catholic.

Montes was reunited with her birth father, Martin Schnittka, at Bellini's, Cubao, Quezon City, in December 2017. She shared her gratitude towards her German cousin Michelle Lloyd and CocoJul Bukayo fans for paving the way for her visit to him on Instagram.

Julia Montes Career

Career

Montes began as a commercial model before appearing in numerous television shows. She began acting in small roles in several GMA shows, including Sana ay Ikaw na Nga in 2001 as the daughter of actor Robin Da Rosa and Angelu de Leon, and in some episodes of the now defunct drama anthology Magpakailanman. Montes went on to appear on ABS-CBN's television shows including Hiram (2004) and Maala Mo Kaya before landing a permanent spot in the kiddie gag show Goin' Bulilit in 2005.

Betty La Fea appeared in other television series in 2008, including Ligaw na Bulaklak and I Love Betty La Fea. These performances led her to her debut in Goin' Bulilit as a series regular, in which she appeared in a variety of comedic roles before her departure that year. Montes, as Abby, appeared in a Malaya Mo Kaya episode titled "Card" a tale of a girl who is longing for the care of her parents while under the custody of a nursemaid. She appeared in Katorse as a guest star in the series's last episode as a shy girl Nellie. In the youth-oriented film Gimik 2010, she was later cast as the teen Mara, a woman with her same name.

Montes' breakthrough role came when she played Clara del Valle/clara David in Emil Cruz, Jr.'s longest-running classic soap opera Mara Clara, a drama about teenage sibling rivalry with her co-star and off-screen best friend Kathryn Bernardo. Montes changed her screen name from "Mara Montes" to "Julia Montes" to avoid confusion and complications, since Bernardo will be the titular character Mara. Based on Kantar Media's final episode, the series's highest-rating teleserye episode to date aired on ABS-CBN this year. Montes' portrayal as the series's leading antiheroe received generally positive feedback, and she has landed lead roles in films and television series in her forthcoming projects.

Montes made her film debut in 2011 as Jessica "Jessie" Santiago, opening in August 2011 to rave reviews, as Jessica "Jessie" Lorraine S. Santiago, as Mara Clara co-star Kathryn Bernardo. Montes received mainly favorable feedback by analysts, with Abby Mendoza of Philippine Entertainment Portal writing, "One should thank Julia Montes for deviating from the classic snotty, mean girl stereotype that makes life miserable for the downtrodden Mara." Julia is a natural performer who has a lot of pain when playing the angsty girl who harbours a lot of sadness. She has the ability to make her audience understand the pain she is going through and, more importantly, make them understand where it comes from. Julia was awess" in this regard. Samantha "Tammy" Magtoto, the daughter of an OFW who entrusted his care to Mikaella Dimalanta, was the same year she appeared on Growing Up for the third time. (played by Bernardo)

When she starred with Coco Martin in the romantic drama series Walang Hanggan in 2012, she achieved more success. The critically acclaimed film is loosely based on Hihintayin Kita Langit, a film based on Emily Bront's classic book Wuthering Heights. Walang Hanggan features the undying passion that revolves around characters from three generations – Virginia, Margaret, and Joseph; the ill-fated lovers Marco and Emily; and young sweethearts Daniel and Katerina. Martin Guidotti, Richard Gomez as Marco Montenegro, Dawn Zulueta, and Katerina Alcantara are among the first on-screen team-ups of Coco Martin and Julia Montes, as Doa Margaret Montenegro, Susan Roces as Doa Margaret Montenegro and Montes as Katherina Alcantara. Mark Angelo Ching's article on the Philippine Entertainment Portal considered Montes' decision to step into a mature role after being seen as a "gamble" at first, but all doubts are dispelled once she is seen defending her own against Martin, and she believes that her "natural na" contradicts the actor's mature outlook.

The series and Montes' performances received significant praise from critics as they maintained the top spot and dominated the audience polls for the majority of their run, being the only Philippine drama to beat the 40% margin in ratings. The show's final episode attracted a 54.4 percent viewership rating nationally. Walang Hanggan debuted as the most watched show in the second half of 2012, with a record-breaking national television rating of 38.4% based on Kantar Media. Walang Hanggan, along with Ina, Kapatid, Anak, and Be Careful With My Heart, were broadcast globally in foreign countries due to the series's success. Montes was named "Phenomenal Primetime Princess" during the 44th Box Office Entertainment Awards (GMMSFI). On the other hand, Martin took the name "Prince of Philippine Television" from his name. At the 4th FMTM Awards, Walang Hanggan, Montes, and Martin came in second place as the most popular loveteams.

Montes appeared in other two 2012 films, as Ligaya in The Reunion and Pat in The Strangers. The film remains the country's highest-grossing debut, with total sales of over 68.1 million for the former. Montes starred in A Moment in Time with Martin as a follow-up to their preeminent team-up in Walang Hanggan in 2013. Montes' first nomination for Best Actress was given to the film nationwide, earning the film over $63,543,391. Jennifer Dugena of Philippine Entertainment Portal praised her appearance, writing: "Julia plays the role of exquisitely mixed innocence and maturity." She is a natural performer who is attracted to the truth and truth of life. Her vulnerability and tenacity shines through as she submits herself to Martin's character Patrick's emotional tortures. Her emotions are strong, vivacious, and very affecting. Any doubts about her ability to portray young or adult characters are shattered by her acting chops. She is clearly a step ahead of her contemporaries in terms of talent.

Later in 2013, she appeared in "Krus," a Malaya Mo Kaya episode about a girl named Diana who was sold to a prostitution den by her own foster mother at a young age of 15. The episode attracted a nationwide audience share of 42%, making it the No. 1 in the world. According to Kantar Media's reports, there is one of the most watched programs on March 9. Montes appeared in another television series Muling Buksan ang Puso, which emphasizes forgiveness and second chances. In an interview, Montes played Sarah Beltran, a role that she said was "tailor-fit" for her actual age. From January to December 2013, the series ranked 10th in Top 15 programs.

Montes' fame soared in 2014 as she appeared as Mona Roque-Hidalgo, Samuel's lifetime friend and undercover admirer, in the time drama series Ikaw Lamang, where she reunited with her Walang Hanggan leading man Coco Martin as Samuel Hidalgo / Gabriel Hidalgo. Kim Chiu appeared as Isabelle Miravelez-Hidalgo/Andrea Hidalgo and Jake Cuenca as Franco Hidalgo. At the PMPC Star Awards for Television 2014, she was named Best Drama Supporting Actress in the series. Montes, partnered with veteran actress Angel Locsin, received a Best Actress award for her role in Ikaw Lamang in January 2015. Montes completed work on Adolfo Alix Jr.'s family rom Padre de Familia, which was published in February 20, 2016 with Martin and Nora Aunor on February 20, 2016. In Malaysia, filming took place.

Montes starred in the romantic drama Halik sa Hangin with Gerald Anderson and JC de Vera after her character's departure from Ikaw Lamang. Montes' third collaboration with Palo was documented in the film, directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo, and it was theatrically released on January 28, 2015. Montes continued to receive praise and admiration from film critics for her role as Mia Generoso in Halik sa Hangin. Author Jocelyn Valle said in a review by Philippine Entertainment Portal that "Julia, the actress, reveals a strong interest and earnestness in portraying Mia's character. Mia's emotional roller coaster of romance — apprehension, caution, and bliss — is made vivid by her presence until reality bites. Mia shines the best in this pivotal scene where Mia is suspected of becoming a mental patient, and Mia must tell the world that she is telling the truth." Montes' appearance earned her a Young Critics Circle award for Best Performance.

Montes will be reunited with Walang Hanggan chief man Coco Martin later this year in a forthcoming television series, with former Dreamscape publicity head Eric John Salute on Twitter on February 12, 2015. Martin and Montes were reunited in a new chapter of Wansapanym's summer special "Yamishita's Treasures," marking the two couples' second collaboration in television since their hit TV show Walang Hanggan. In an interview with Halik sa Hangin, Martin said he personally requested Montes as his leading lady for his new venture because he was inspired and inspired by the young actress' stellar appearance in Halik sa Hangin. Montes played Tanya, a princess in a world of fairies, who meets Yami and helps him retrieve a treasure in her world. "Yamishita's Treasures" in Wansapanataym ran for 12 weeks, from March 22 to June 14, 2015. Montes appeared in a Malaya Mo Kaya episode titled "Picture," a tale about a young woman named Rosa who fell in love with a man who, she later learned, is already married. The episode earned a national TV rating of 37.2%, making it one of the most watched episodes of Maala Mo Kaya this year.

Montes headlined Doble Kara in 2015 after completing several film and television projects involving Halik sa Hangin, Wansapantaym, and in an episode of Maala Mo Kaya (co-starring Carmina Villarroel, Mylene Dizon, Allen Dizon, and Sam Milby). The series revolves around twins Kara and Sara, who were separated during their childhood due to Kara's urgent need of a leukemia cure. Montes assumed the roles of identical twin sisters Kara and Sara, who have common appearances but have a totally different appearance. Doble Kara is a television show that premiered on August 24, 2015. Montes was named Best Actress Award for two years at the 16th Gawad Tang law Awards in 2016, as well as a PMPC Star Award nomination in the Best Dramatic Actress category for her performance. Montes seemed to be more committed to establishing herself as a serious actress than a film actress, as shown in a 2016 issue. Montes appeared on "Annika Pintasera" in Wansapanataym, where she played Annika de Cuadra, a wealthy girl who does not care about the people around her. In May 2017, the series attained an average national TV rating of 31.7% and landed on 4th place in the Top 10 programs.
