Gloria Maria Aspillera Diaz (born 10 March 1951), also known as Gloria Diaz, is a Filipino multi-awarded actress of film and television, model, and beauty queen who came to fame after being named Miss Universe's first Filipina to hold the Miss Universe title.

Early life and family

She is one of twelve children (ten girls and two boys), and is often referred to as part of the D'az family. Rio D'az, her sister, was also an actor and beauty titlist.

Personal life

D.Az obtained her high school diploma from St. Scholastica's College Manila's basic education department.

She is divorced from businessman Gabriel "Bong" Daza III, with whom she has two children, Isabelle and Ava, as well as one son, Raphael, is also separated.

Gloria Diaz is a non grata in 2010, according to the Vice Mayors League's Cebu chapter.

Acting career

She spent a few years as Miss Universe before returning to the Philippines, and in 1975, she appeared in Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop ng Lupa. Film reviewers applauded her role in the film, and it was regarded as one of the most promising debuts of any actress in Philippine cinema. She was nominated for the Best Achievement by an Actress in a Lead Role later this year.

D'az spent years in film before deciding to do television. It was 1996 when Anna Karenina first appeared in the drama series Anna Karenina. Since appearing on GMA Network's Kool Ka Lang in 1998, she earned a following. Dona Teodora Alonso, the mother of Rizal's children, appeared in Jose Rizal's biopic film Jose Rizal the same year. At the 1998 Metro Manila Film Festival, her portrayal of Rizal's mother was named Best Supporting Actress.

Daz appeared in Nasaan Ka Man, a psychological thriller starring award-winning actress Hilda Koronel, Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, and Jericho Rosales in 2006. Lilia, a woman struggling to mask her sadness as she tries to hold her family together, was once nominated and finally named FAMAS Best Supporting Actress.

She received the FAMAS Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2009 for her role in the critically acclaimed film Sagrada Familia.

She appeared in two GMA films, Beauty Queen and Diva, in 2010. After a brief stint in 100 Days to Heaven, she returned to GMA for Mistaken Identity.

Daz has appeared in many ABS-CBN television dramas, including Kung Ako's Iiwan Mo, May Isang Pangarap, Mirabella, Dream Dad, and roles in MMK as well as an appearance in Ipaglaban Mo. Pamilya Roces, the actress who appeared on GMA for the second time in 2018 to play an evil mother. She has appeared in the blockbuster comedy films Sisterakas and Kung Fu Divas.

Dantez returned to ABS-CBN in 2019 and was recently cast in Soledad Cardinal, Don's long-lost wife, and Consuelo Cuevas, Lorenzo Cuevas' mother (Joseph Marco). In the second season of Netflix's Insatiable with Dallas Roberts and Debby Ryan, she appeared as a fictional version of herself.
