According to an inquiry, both menopausal women and those wanting a baby with a fingerprick test to record their hormone levels could be using incorrect equipment. Online pharmacies are offering finger-prick tests for a hormone called oestradiol, which can be purchased from £50 to £180, depending on what is included in the experiment. Women on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or going through IVF to monitor menopause or fertility levels, and can have a huge effect on the need for medications or additional tests. However, Eurofins, a large laboratory headquartered in the United Kingdom, is still performing finger prick tests for oestradiol, despite fears that the results may not always be accurate, an investigation has revealed. Finger-prick blood samples were more likely to have lower oestradiol levels than blood samples obtained from a vein, according to Eurofins' own internal analysis, which was released in 2021.
