Jake Kiszka Life

Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan, formed in 2012.

It features brothers Josh Kiszka, guitarist Jake Kiszka, bassist Sam Kiszka, and drummer Danny Wagner.

The band was signed to Lava Records in March 2017, and a month later, Black Smoke Rising, the band's debut studio album, was released.

In September 2017, the band's debut single, "Highway Tune," topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts for the fourth week in a row.

On November 10, 2017, Black Smoke Rising's second EP, "From the Fires," featured the four songs from Black Smoke Rising and four new songs, as well as a second single, "Safari Song." Anthem of the Peaceful Army, the band's debut full-length studio album, debuted on October 19, 2018, and it dominated Billboard's Billboard Rock Album charts in the first week after its debut.

"When the Curtain Falls," the band's first single, was announced ahead of time in July 2018 and became the band's third number-one single on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.

Anthem of the Peaceful Army debuted on the Billboard Hard Rock charts in the first week after being announced. From the Fires, the band's EP, From the Fires, also won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.

Formation and early years (2012–2015)

Josh and Jake Kiszka, the band's younger brother Sam, and Kyle Hauck were all present in Frankenmuth, Michigan, in 2012. Kyle Hauck heard a relative mention Gretna Van Fleet, a resident of Frankenmuth, and their use of the letters changed on her name led to her (subsequent) blessing. In a later interview, Van Fleet revealed that although the band's music isn't her style, she supports the band and thinks they are extremely talented. The band recorded three songs, "Cloud Train," "Highway Tune," and "Standing On" at the time, with Hauck as the drummer. Hauck was forced to leave the band in October 2013 and was replaced as drummer by Danny Wagner, the brothers' good friend. Guitarist Jake Kiszka's first guitar riff for "Highway Tune" was cited as being published as early as 2010, but in March 2017, it was rereleased as a single. On February 28, 2014, a live EP was released and released on June 7, 2014.

In March 2014, they released their song "Standing On" in Chevrolet Equinox advertisements in the Detroit area. One of many songs on the album, "By the Riverside", "Cloud Train," "Down to the River," and "Motown Funk No. 10" is one of several. "Sing in the Rain," "Thunder Stomp," "Occidentalli," and "Written in Gold" were previously announced but are now out of print.

On January 17, 2016, the band's album "Highway Tune" was released as a live performance on the showtime show Shameless. The band's first official single, "Highway Tune," was released on iTunes on March 31, 2017. On April 2, 2017, iTunes launched "Highway Tune," which was released on iTunes. "Highway Tune" was the song's music video, which was exclusively on Loudwire on April 18, 2017. Black Smoke Rising, the band's debut EP, was released on April 21, 2017. Greta Van Fleet, the week's best artist of the week, was announced on April 21, 2017. During May 2017, the band toured with The Struts.

The band received Best New Artist at the Loudwire Music Awards in October 2017. On November 10, 2017, the band released From the Fires, an eight-song double EP. From the Fires' four tracks, "Edge of Shadow" and "Walk on the Street" are among the new Black Smoke Rising's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "Walk on the Ledge" by Sam Cooke. The four new songs were recorded in September 2017 at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak, Michigan, and were created by Al Sutton and Marlon Young, the same pair who produced Black Smoke Rising. In October 2017, the band also released "Safari Song" as a single.

On September 7, Greta Van Fleet welcomed fellow Michigan native Bob Seger to the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan (just minutes from their hometown). In November 2017, the band announced that they would begin recording their first full-length studio album shortly after the debut of From the Fires, and that they anticipate its arrival in mid-2018.

On March 4, 2018, the band appeared at Elton John's Academy Award Party, at the host's personal request. John appeared onstage for Greta Van Fleet's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" and their "You're the One" series. After the set, Elton John suggested that the band be more vibrant and flamboyant in terms of appearance and costume. The band performed "When the Curtain Falls," the first single off the band's forthcoming debut album on July 26, 2018.

On October 19, 2018, the Peaceful Army's debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, was released. The name of the album "Anthem of the Peaceful Army" was taken from a poem's title, according to Josh Kiszka. It was the top-selling album in the United States during its debut week in 80,000 copies. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, factoring in album equivalent units.

The band was nominated for four Grammy Awards in December 2018 – Best New Artist, Best Rock Song for "Black Smoke Rising," Best Rock Song for "Black Smoke Rising," and Best Rock Album for From the Fires, the latter of which they received.

Greta Van Fleet performed "Black Smoke Rising" and his second single from Anthem of the Peaceful Army "You're the One" on Saturday Night Live on January 19, 2019. In May 2019, a new single, "Lover, Leaver," was released. The band performed "Always There," an outtake from the album, to the soundtrack of the film A Million Little Pieces.

In an interview with New Musical Express magazine in July 2019, Jake and Sam Kiszka announced that they are working on a new album to debut in the coming year and that their musical style has changed.

The band released "My Way, Soon" as a new single on October 9, 2020, as well as a music video that was shot, edited, and directed by the band. According to Wagner, the song was supposed to appear on their forthcoming second album, which also revealed their eyes: "We discovered that although we had been shielded by a lot of things, we were unaware of a lot of things." The band's second studio album, titled The Battle at Garden's Gate, will be released on December 4, 2020. During the unveiling of the song, a single titled "Age of Machine" was also released. The album was released on April 16, 2021. The band's third album, "Heat Above," was released on February 10, 2021. The band's fourth album, "Broken Bells," was released on March 19, 2021.
