Greta Van Fleet, an American rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan, formed in 2012.

It includes brothers Josh Kiszka, guitarist Jake Kiszka, bassist Sam Kiszka, and drummer Danny Wagner.

They were signed to Lava Records in March 2017, and a month later, Black Smoke Rising, the band's debut studio EP, was released.

"Highway Tune," the band's debut single, topped the Billboard US Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts in September 2017 for the fourth week in a row.

On November 10, 2017, the four songs from Black Smoke Rising and four new songs were included in their second EP, "Safari Song." Anthem of the Peaceful Army, the band's debut full-length studio album, debuted on October 19, 2018, and debuted on the Billboard Rock Album charts in the first week after its debut.

"When the Curtain Falls" the album's first single, "When the Curtain Falls," was announced in July 2018 ahead of it and became the band's third number-one single on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.

Anthem of the Peaceful Army debuted at number one on the Billboard Hard Rock charts for the first week after its debut, achieving the top spot on the Billboard Top Album Sales charts for the first week.

Formation and early years (2012–2015)

Josh and Jake Kiszka, their younger brother Sam and Kyle Hauck, were both members of the band in Frankenmuth, Michigan, in 2012. Kyle Hauck, a resident of Frankenmuth, heard Gretna Van Fleet, a woman of Frankenmuth; they used the word variations on her name for her (subsequent) blessing. Van Fleet also stated in a later interview that although the band's music isn't her type, she supports the band and thinks they are really talented. At the time when Hauck was the drummer, the band recorded three songs: "Cloud Train," "Highway Tune," and "Standing On." Hauck was forced to leave the band in October 2013 and was replaced as drummer by Danny Wagner, the brothers' close friend. Guitarist Jake Kiszka's initial guitar riff for "Highway Tune" was listed as early as 2010, but it was rereleased as a single in March 2017. On February 28, 2014, a live EP was recorded in a one take and released on June 7, 2014.

In March 2014, Chevrolet Equinox advertisements in Detroit were released. They's song "Standing On" was featured in 2014 Chevy Equinox ads. "Standing On" is one of several songs, as well as "By the Riverside," "Cloud Train," "Down to the River," and "Motown Funk No." "Sing in the Rain," "Thunder Stomp," "Occidentalli," and "Written in Gold" were previously released but are now out of print.

On January 17, 2016, the band's "Highway Tune" was broadcast live on the showtime show Shameless. The band's first official single, "Highway Tune," was released on iTunes on March 31, 2017. On April 2, 2017, iTunes introduced the song "Highway Tune." The music video for the song "Highway Tune" was exclusively released on Loudwire on April 18, 2017. Black Smoke Rising, the band's debut EP, was released on April 21, 2017. Greta Van Fleet was the week's most popular artist, according to Apple Music. During May 2017, the band toured with The Struts.

The band received Best New Artist at the Loudwire Music Awards in October 2017. On November 10, 2017, the band released From the Fires, an eight-song double EP. In addition to the four tracks from Black Smoke Rising, From the Fires features the new albums "Edge of Shadow" and "Talk on the Street," as well as Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "Meet on the Ledge" and Fairport Convention's "Meet on the Ledge." The four new songs were recorded at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak, Michigan, and were produced by Al Sutton and Marlon Young, the same pair who produced Black Smoke Rising. In October 2017, the band also released "Safari Song" as a single.

On September 7, Greta Van Fleet welcomed fellow Michigan native Bob Seger to the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan (just minutes from their hometown) for only minutes. In November 2017, the band revealed that they would begin recording their first full-length studio album soon after the release of From the Fires, and that by mid-2018, they should have it out by mid-February.

The band appeared at Elton John's Academy Award Party on March 4, 2018, at the host's personal request. Onstage at his "Saturday Night's Alright for Combat" and their "You're the One," Greta Van Fleet's John appeared. After the set, Elton John suggested that the band be more flamboyant and flamboyant in terms of appearance and clothing. The band appeared on "When the Curtain Falls," the band's first single off of their forthcoming debut album on July 26, 2018.

On October 19, 2018, the Peaceful Army's debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, was released. The name of the album "Anthem of the Peaceful Army" was taken from a poem's title, according to Josh Kiszka. It was the top-selling album in the United States for the first week, selling 80,000 copies. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, factoring in album equivalent units.

The band was nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance for "Black Smoke Rising," and Best Rock Album for From the Fires in December 2018.

Greta Van Fleet performed the song "Black Smoke Rising" and second single from Anthem of the Peaceful Army "You're the One" on Saturday Night Live on January 19, 2019. The band's new single, "My Way, Soon," was released on October 9, 2020, as well as a music video that was shot, edited, and directed by the band. The song was supposed to appear on their forthcoming second album, which, according to Wagner, was "we discovered that although growing up, we had been shielded by a lot of things."
