Jadon Sancho Career

Club career

Sancho came from Watford at the age of seven. He transferred to Watford's academy due to problems with commuting across London and the club's academy, and started attending Harefield Academy as a boarder aged 11. He told his Watford under-15s coach that he wanted to play for England at the age of 14.

He moved to Manchester City in March 2015 for an initial price of £66,000 under the Elite Player Performance Plan, potentially increasing to £500,000 with add ons. Sancho continued to impress in the City academy and was one of a trio of players that City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said would be fast tracked into the senior set up in May 2017. Sancho was dropped from City's pre-season tour squad in July due to a rift over promises of playing time in a new contract. Sancho had been trying to engineer a transfer away from the club, and City, who had been alarmed by Sancho's behavior after he missed training following a pre-season tour.

Sancho signed for Borussia Dortmund, Germany, on a fee that was estimated to be in the region of £8 million and was immediately drafted into the first-team squad. He later expressed certainty in moving to another country thanks to his previous relocation experiences with Watford and Manchester City. Sancho made his Bundesliga debut against Eintracht Frankfurt on October 21. He came as a replacement with six minutes remaining, becoming the first Englishman to play for Dortmund in a Bundesliga match. Sancho made his first league appearance for Dortmund on January 14, 2018, with VfL Wolfsburg getting a goalless draw. On April 21, he scored his first career goal. It was the first goal in a 4–0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, and he also assisted two other goals in the same match.

Sancho continued his good October 2018 by being named Bundesliga Player of the Month for three goals and an assist in only three league games, despite signing a new deal extending him at the club until 2022. One of his month's objectives was a brace against Hertha BSC, who saw him become the first player born in the 2000s to score twice in a single Bundesliga match and the youngest ever by a Dortmund player. He also became the first player born in the 2000s to play in the UEFA Champions League against Atlético Madrid on October 24.

During a 3–3 draw with Hoffenheim on Sunday, he became the youngest player to score eight goals in a single Bundesliga season, beating the record held by Christian Wück. Lukas Podolski's record of nine Bundesliga goals was broken earlier this month, after scoring in a 3–2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. Sancho scored a brace in a 2–1 victory over Mainz on April 13th, and became the youngest-ever Dortmund player to score at least 10 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign. Sancho was selected in the 2018-19 Bundesliga Team of the Season after an outstanding league campaign in which he scored 12 goals and 14 assists.

Sancho was also contributing and scoring in a 2–0 DFL-Supercup victory over Bayern Munich on August 3, 2019. Sancho also agreed to a new deal with Dortmund later this month. Sancho's goal in Dortmund's 3–3 draw with RB Leipzig on December 17th meant he had scored in seven straight games for the club (including in Champions League matches against Barcelona and Slavia Prague), bringing his total number up to 15 goals and 16 assists in the calendar year 2019. Sancho was named Month of the Month for the second time in his career due to his three goals and three assists in five league games during February 2020.

Sancho scored his first hat-trick in a 6-1 victory over SC Paderborn on May 31, 2020. After scoring his first goal, he took off his shirt to reveal a shirt with the words "Justice for George Floyd," a black man who was shot by a police officer who knelt on Floyd's neck until he was unresponsive.

Sancho won 4–1 over RB Leipzig in the 2021 DFB-Pokal Final on May 13, 2021.

Manchester United and Dortmund had signed a contract for Sancho's transfer, subject to his signing a deal and passing a medical, which were not expected to happen after UEFA Euro 2020. After Sancho agreed to a five-year deal with the possibility of a further year, the transfer was completed on July 23rd. Odion Ighalo's number 25 shirt was given to him. In a 5–1 home league victory over Leeds United on August 14, he made his debut as a replacement for Daniel James. He scored his first goal for the club against Villarreal on November 23 to guarantee a spot in the Champions League's knockout stage. After Jorginho mishandled a long clearance from Bruno Fernandes, Sancho was able to score his first Premier League goal against Chelsea, allowing Sancho to capitalize on a two-on-one match with Édouard Mendy.

In a 2–1 home victory over Liverpool on August 22, 2022, Sancho scored his first goal of the 2022–23 season.

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
Fans have taken to social media to mock Jadon Sancho for putting on a German accent during a recent interview. Sancho re-joined Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season in January, following his public falling out with United boss Erik ten Hag . Man United need a summer shake-up to refresh a squad that is miles off competing for the top prizes with EIGHTEEN players - and under-fire Erik ten Hag - on the chopping block

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 22, 2024
Manchester United's penalty shootout FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City brought more questions than answers - both in terms of Erik ten Hag and his players.  This has been a season riddled by mistakes on and off the pitch for United and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team now assuming control of football operations, a summer shake-up feels inevitable.  United are looking to raise £100million through player sales and for some shown the door that will mean accepting a sizeable loss on their initial transfer outlay. Mail Sport runs through Manchester United's squad to work out who stays and who goes.

A tale of two cities! ELLIS SIMMS grew up supporting the blue half of Manchester but is now banging in the goals for Coventry and out to shock United in the FA Cup at Wembley

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY CHRIS WHEELER: The route to the top can seem relatively straightforward for the star pupils of Manchester City's academy. Ellis Simms, on the other hand, belongs to a different group of City scholars. Those young men who reached a crossroads when they were let go at a young age, and had to navigate a trickier path to where they want to be. For him, it was Blackpool, Heart of Midlothian and Sunderland on loan from Everton. Sunday is Simms' turn in the spotlight. Coventry meet Manchester United in the second FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, 24 hours after Foden and City saw off Palmer and Chelsea in the first.
