Philip Walter Foden (born 28 May 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and the England under-21 team. He made his debut for City during the same year and in December was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Foden has since made over 30 appearances for the club, winning six honours including becoming the youngest recipient of a Premier League winners' medal.

In 2019, he won a second Premier League and became the club's youngest-ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, and is the youngest English player to both start a match and score in the knockout stages of the competition.

In a 2–0 victory over Cardiff City in the first month of the season, he made his first league appearance for the club since Daniel Sturridge in 2008. Manchester City defeated Burnley 5–0 in a Premier League brace and scored in consecutive league games for the first time. Liverpool, the newly crowned champions of Manchester United Kingdom, were welcomed to the Etihad on July 2nd, 2020. As City defeated 4–0, Foden scored and assisted in the match.

Foden started the 2019-20 Premier League season on July 26th with a 5–0 victory over Norwich City, securing Manchester City's finish second position on the season. However, the occasion was marked by Foden's idol David Silva's departure after ten years with the club. "Training has been quicker, and it has been amazing working with Silva, who is my idol." I try and learn from him and learn from him, and then try and do the same things." Foden was expected to take over from Silva with Pep Guardiola, who said that Manchester City "trust" Phil Foden to replace him.

City's dream of a Double Treble is no more… which is bad news for Arsenal and Liverpool, writes OLIVER HOLT

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 17, 2024
OLIVER HOLT AT ETIHAD STADIUM: A few minutes before kick-off, a flag depicting a double-decker bus began to be passed along the Manchester City fans behind one of the goals at the Etihad Stadium. It had Phil Foden's face emblazoned on the side next to the figure 192, the number of the bus that runs from Manchester, through Foden's home town, Stockport, to Hazel Grove. There was something else inscribed on it, too. 'Wembley Express' was written on it in big capital letters, a reference not to City's appearance there on Saturday in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea but a nod to the fact that the Champions League final will take place in north west London on June 1. It turns out City won't be there to play in it. Real Madrid rang the bell a few stops early at The Etihad last night and booted City off that bus before it had left east Manchester.

JACK GAUGHAN AT THE ETIHAD: Real Madrid advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Manchester City 4-3 on penalties at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Antonio Rudiger struck the decisive spot kick after the game had finished 1-1 through extra time and 4-4 on aggregate. Rodrygo fired Madrid ahead in the 12th minute with a twice-taken effort from close range to beat City goalkeeper Ederson on the rebound.

Defender Kyle Walker returned to start the game for City despite the birth of his fourth son alongside wife Annie Kilner on Tuesday, with Kevin De Bruyne also returning, starting alongside Phil Foden and Erling Haaland with Jude Bellingham lining up for Madrid.
