Hideto Takarai (寶井 秀人, Takarai Hideto, born January 29, 1969 in Wakayama, Japan), known exclusively by his stage name Hyde, is a Japanese musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor.

He is best known as lead vocalist of the rock band L'Arc-en-Ciel.

He is also lead vocalist of Vamps and has a solo career.

Hyde’s career highlights include: 16 sold-out shows at the 55,000 capacity Tokyo Dome, being part of the first Japanese band to perform a solo show at Madison Square Garden in New York City , selling a concert on the deck of the U.S.S.Missouri in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Career

Hyde left his band Jelsarem's Rod and joined L'Arc-en-Ciel, where he became the country's most popular lyricist and vocalist. L'Arc-en-Ciel was signed to Danger Crue Records, where they also released their first official album Dune. On Oricon's main chart, it peaked at number five, but it topped its own chart.

L'Arc-en-Ciel sold out the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome in a record-breaking four minutes in December of 1997. Since then, L'Arc-en-Ciel has sold-out the Tokyo Dome 16 times. L'Arc-en-Ciel's first North American debut at Otakon in Baltimore in 2003, at a crowd of 12,000 people. They went to 7 cities around the world in April 2008, where a total of 320,000 people were present. L'Arc-en-Ciel became the first Japanese act to sell out Madison Square Garden in New York by 2012.

L'Arc-en-Ciel was ranked 58 on a list of the top 100 Japanese pop stars by HMV Japan in 2003.

L'Arc-Ciel released eight albums in 1999 and 1999, becoming the first Japanese artists to not have two albums out at the same time, but both albums have reached number one and number 2 on the Oricon charts, respectively.

Real, L'Arc-en-Ciel's eighth studio album, along with their eighth studio album, went on hiatus, during which each of the members pursued solo activities. "Shibuya Seven Days" in June and July, three years later, L'Arc-en-Ciel performed in 2003 for a series of seven concerts titled "Shibuya Seven Days" in June and July. L'Arc-en-Ciel launched Butterfly, their twelfth studio album, at the start of their first world tour in 2012. The tour took the band from Shanghai, Taipei, London, Paris, Singapore, Singapore, Singapore, New York, India, Seoul, Japan, and Hawaii. In the film Moon Child, directed by Gackt himself, Hyde appeared alongside fellow Japanese rock musician Gackt in April 2003. The pair performed the duet "Orenji no Taiyou," which was used as the film's theme song. The song was also released on Gackt's fourth full length album, Crescent.

In June and September of 2003, respectively, Hyde followed Roentgen with the release of two singles, "Hello" and "Horizon." In Ryuhei Kitamura's film Sky High, the ending theme was "Horizon." In December 2003, he released 666, his second solo album. The Shining Over You" album by Hyde in the same month was used as the commercial theme for the video game Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

Hyde's first solo tour, "Hyde 2004 First Tour: 666," spanned 11 cities and 21 shows around Japan in early 2004. Hyde appeared in his second film, Kagen no Tsuki, a live-action film adaptation of Ai Yazawa's manga. Hyde's song "The Cape of Storms" from his earlier-released Roentgen album was used as a plot line in the film, and it became the movie's unofficial theme song.

L'Arc-en-Ciel's fifth studio album, Awake, was released in the summer of 2005. However, Hyde carried on his solo career in conjunction with L'Arc-en-Ciel's work. He produced the music for the song "Glamorous Sky," which was included in Nana's live-action film adaptation. Ai Yazawa's most popular manga. Mika Nakashima of the film "Glamorous Sky" was performed by the actress, with Yazawa dictating the lyrics. "Halloween of the Living Dead," a three-night event at Club Citta from October 29-31, became the first of many Halloween concerts to come. Each night of "Halloween of the Living Dead" featured performances by Hyde himself, but also by other well-known Japanese artists. Jack-O-Lantern, a special Halloween band, was created for the occasion, which involved Hyde himself and the band Monoral. Uverworld, Olivia Lufkin, High and Mighty Color, Yasu (Janne Da Arc / Acid Black Cherry), and Mika Nakashima were among the three bands who performed in the three-day Halloween festival. Jack-O-Lantern provided both a preview of the original "Ghostbusters" theme tune as well as a a recap of the original "Ghostbusters" theme tune.

Hyde's single "Season's Call" was first announced in February 2006 as the second opening theme to the anime Blood+, and it was the second single to be announced off his album Faith. Faith was released in April 2006 and was the first full-length collaboration between Hyde and K.A.Z, with all songs arranged by the pair.

Hyde signed to Tofu Records as a solo artist in 2006, and an overseas version of Faith was released in June 2006, with music videos for both "Countdown" and "Season's Call" in addition. Following the introduction of Faith, Hyde, Tofu Records' support, he began his debut United States tour, the Hyde Faith Tour, 2006, visiting many California towns. In November 2006, a DVD of Hyde's mini-U.S. tour was released.

Hyde recalled guitarist K.A.Z (Oblivion Dust), who had previously worked with him on both 666 and Faith, and formed the Vamps, a hard rock unit. "Haunted Records," was originally signed to Vamprose, Hyde's own record label. Hyde performed lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, lyricist, and composer, while K.A.Z took on lead guitar, backing vocalist, and composer.

In July 2008, the rock pair's first single, "Love Addict," was released. Vamps, the first band's self-titled debut album, was released in June 2009, just one month before their first international tour.

Following the success of their first album, Vamps launched a ten-date tour in the United States, beginning in September 11, 2009, with appearances in New York, Hartford, Columbia, Baltimore, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Their appearances in Hartford and Columbia were part of the "Vans Warped Tour," making them the first Japanese act to appear on the tour this year. The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles was their final appearance in the United States, and they were later released on DVD. On board the battleship U.S., vamps were on display. Missouri performed in Hawaii in early September, the first musical act to do so since Cher.

In recognition of the band's worldwide success, they were included in the category "Billboard Japan Ranking International 2009" following their live tour in the United States. Vamps' second album, Beast, was released in July 2010. In Bakuman, Hyde debuted as a voice actor, playing the producer of the musician Koogy, a character that is also voiced by Showtaro Morikubo. Vamps created a Japanese version of their song "Get Up" to be performed by Shotaro's voice, which was later used in the anime. They then sang of their single, "Memories" as the coupling track.

In 2013, Vamps joined Universal Music Group's Delicious Deli Records and released their first compilation album, Sex Blood Rock n' Roll. Vamps partnered with Live Nation for their first European tour in years, which also included their first appearance at a European rock festival, where they appeared at the Download Festival 2014, which took place at Donington Park that year.

Vamps took to Latin America in the late summer of 2015 and then to the United States once more, as well as a sold-out performance at The Roxy in Los Angeles. They are back in the United Kingdom on Apocalyptica's UK tour in late November to promote the two bands' collaborative single, "Sin in Justice."

In early 2016, the band returned to Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace) to record music for their fourth full-length album, Underworld. On MTV: The video appeared on MTV for the first time with Apocalyptica, and later this year, the show will be released on DVD/Blu-ray later this year.

They returned to North America at the end of the year, headlined major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Toronto, and Mexico City, which was aided by rock band Citizen Zero.

In September 2017, the band Motionless In White's Chris Motionless appeared on their 12th single, "Inside of Me." With Richard Kruspe (Emigrate/Rammstein), the two co-wrote "Reise or Die," the single's coupling song.

Vamps returned to Japan for a summer tour but then returned to the United States once more in the fall, marking their final tour before going on hiatus.

Hyde returned to work as a solo artist in June 2018, his first solo release in 12 years since Vamps announced their hiatus in the fall of 2017. "After Light" and "Fake Divine" were two more solo albums, which were released in June 2018 and October 2018, respectively.

In 2018, Hyde collaborated with well-known performers, including Yoshiki and Mika Nakashima. "Kiss of Death," Hyde's second collaboration in 13 years, was released in March 2018. The single was used as the opening theme song for the anime Darling in the Franxx. Hyde co-produced "Red Swan," which was used as the opening theme song for the third season of the anime Attack on Titan. Yoshiki's piano and Hyde's vocals appear in the album, which was released around the world in October 2018.

Hyde's first solo tour in over a decade began in the summer of 2018. The Hyde Live 2018 tour began in Tokyo on June 29, 2018 and spanned seven cities in Japan, with a total of 33 shows. During his 7-day stay in Zepp Tokyo, Hyde invited American rock band Starset, whom Vamps had previously performed with, to open for him. Hyde's vocal tracks were included in order to promote the tour with Starset as a support act, according to Starset's original song, "Monster." Hyde collaborated with Yoshiki on Hyde's single "Zipang" in early 2019. The name refers to an old way of saying "Japan" and was first published in February 2019. Yoshiki on piano and Hyde on vocals, and the coupling song was a recreation of Duran Duran's "Ordinary World." In May 2019, Hyde's fourth solo album Anti was released in digital form and in CD format in June. Hedge, Drew Fulk, Bad Wolves, Motionless in White, and Nick Furlong (Blink-182, Papa Roach, Diplo) and other musicians wrote ten songs for the album. The CD version of the album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard charts in Japan and marked his second full-length English album as a solo artist.

Hyde began In This Moment on their 13-date U.S. Tour, beginning in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 7, 2019. His tour stops included an appearance at the Welcome to Rockville Festival in Jacksonville, FL, on May 11, the Japan Night Festival in Charlotte, NC, concluded with a sold-out headlining display in Los Angeles on May 26.

Hyde began a 26-date domestic tour in Tokyo on June 22 and ended in Sapporo on September 1, 2019. Following the conclusion of his domestic tour, Hyde was invited to tour as a support act for Starset on their 35-date "Divisions" tour.

In January 2019, Hyde became a tourism ambassador for his hometown, Wakayama, and after his appointment, a train service named "Hyde Southern" began operating between Namba Station and Wakayamak Station in Wakayama Prefecture. The trains, which were decorated with pictures of Hyde and local landmarks, lasted until October 2020.

Hyde Live 2019 Anti Final - By the end of 2019, he had completed the fall with his arena tour Hyde Live 2019 Anti Final and closed 2019 by appearing at the Rockin'on Presents Countdown Japan 19/20 on December 29.
