Eason Chan Yick-shun (born 27 July 1974) is a Hong Kong singer and actor.

Chan's Cantonese album U87 was rated as one of Time magazine's "Best Asian Albums Worth Buying" in 2005.

Chan has received a number of Golden Melody Awards.

In 2003, he received the Best Mandarin Male Singer and Best Mandarin Album for Special Thanks To.... He received Best Mandarin Album for Don't Want to Let Go in 2009.

In 2015, Chan received his second Best Mandarin Male Singer award for his album Rice and Shine.

Early life

Chan was born in Hong Kong on July 27, 1974. When Chan was 12, he went to England to study. He attended St. Joseph's kindergarten and St. Joseph's College Primary School in Hong Kong, Dauntsey's School in Wiltshire, England, and later Kingston University, where he learned architecture. He also studied voice at the Royal Academy of Music, where he received Grade-Certified vocal awards. Chan returned to Hong Kong early in his degree to compete in the 1995 New Talent Singing Awards Competition, winning first place. Capital Artists, a Hong Kong-based record company, has signed a deal with him, putting an end to his future as an engineer and beginning a career in music.

Personal life

Chan sustained a serious groin injury while falling off the stage during his Taiwan performance in 2002. As a result, one of these testicles had to be surgically removed. He has since recovered to full capacity.

Hilary Tsui (b. 2006), with whom he has a daughter, Constance Tsui (B. 2004. Due to Tsui's drug scandal, there was rumors that their marriage is on the rocks in 2012. To deny all rumors and charges, the couple had to call a press conference.

During the 11th night of Chan's "Life Concert 2013," he suffered from bipolar disorder and phobia of large crowds. Chan has been named as the spokesperson for "Shall We Talk" initiative to promote mental stability and raise public interest in mental health in 2020. "Shall We Talk," his classic Canto-pop song, has been selected as the theme tune.

My Kan Wonderland Limited, Chan's company, declared on Weibo that the company will "completely avoid any behaviour devilizing China" and that it will no longer serve as a brand ambassador for Adidas on March 25th, sparking public outrage against Chan. Following a BBC investigation that showed that Uyghur slave labour was being used in the production of cotton in the region, Adidas and other members of the Better Cotton Initiative had publicly agreed not to use cotton sourced from Xinjiang and also after a BBC investigation revealed that Uyghur slave labour was being used in the production of cotton in the area. The South China Morning Post announced that after the announcement, Chan's Facebook page, which did not mention the boycott, was flooded with "thousands [of] remarks dismissive of the change" and that "China has placed at least 1 million Uygurs and other ethnic minorities in high security camps, where they are exposed to indoctrination, torture, and forcibly labor." China maintains that allegations of compulsory labour in Xinjiang are "completely invented."

Chan has received a number of Asian music awards. After Jacky Cheung, he became the second non-Taiwanese singer to win the Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan. In 2003, 2005, 2015, and 2018, he received "Best Male Singer" in his third season, as well as "Best Album" twice. In 2003, 2009, and 2018, there was a gap between the two countries. In 2006 and 2007, he was the Most Popular Male Singer in the Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation twice. He also received his first Asia Pacific Best Popular Singer Award in 2007 and again in 2008. Time magazine rated his album U87 as one of the top Asian albums ever released. In 2005, U87 became Hong Kong's best-selling non-concert, non-collection category album. In 2002, 2003, 2004, 2004, and 2007, he was Hong Kong's highest-selling male artist. Every year since 2000, he has been one of Hong Kong's top-selling artists. His concert DVD Get a Life was the highest-selling album of 2006.

Both critics and fellow musicians have lauded Chan as one of the best singers of his time. He has been one of the most awaited candidates to lead the new generation of Cantopop from the start of his career. He has been described as a breath of fresh air in Hong Kong's music scene. Chan has risen to become the best male singer of his generation in Hong Kong, winning prestigious awards one after another over the ten years. Chan has also been successful in his Mandopop career. He has received numerous accolades in both mainland China and Taiwan, most notably Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards. In a fundraising effort for SARS victims in 2003, they performed a duet of Cheung's.

Chan's live performances include the piano, the guitar, the harmonium, and the accordion. Chan is also a songwriter.

Chan appeared on "PAX Musica 2009" in Tokyo in 2009. He performed seven songs, including one by Koji Tamaki titled "Mr. Lonely." This was his first time performing in Japan openly. Ikuro Fujiwara, a Japanese musician, praised Chan for his charisma on stage and expressed the desire to work with him in the future. In 2010, Chan planned to expand his musical activities in Japan.

On February 22nd, Chan introduced "Stranger Under My Skin," her first album. Chan's new album, "?" was released in November. His seven-year-old daughter performs piano, as part of his program.

On August 10, 2012, Chan released the 3mm'Cantonese album. The album titled 3mm Remix,' a remix version of the album, was released on November 8, 2012. It's an album by Eric Kwok and Jerald Chan in composition, with the number one songs "Finish" (>>) and "Heavy sample" as two of them (>>). Chan also founded EAS Music, his own music production business.

He received an Honorary Doctor of Arts degree in 2014 for his contributions to the Cantonese music industry, where he studied architecture before entering the entertainment industry.

Chan has performed five major theme concerts at the famed Hong Kong Coliseum, beginning in 1999. His first series of concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, a total of four Eason's 99Big Live concerts, and it came four years after his debut in 1995. And so on, the amount of time is considered short for a singer to receive the general approval and public help required to perform at such prestigious venue. Chan performed a number of nine The Easy Ride concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum under the wing of his second record company, Music Plus. In 2003, he performed a series of seven The Third Encounter concerts with the support of Music Plus. Chan held his fourth theme concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in 2006, following a year of repose and another change of record company. Chan broke his own record while performing his fifth series of concerts titled Eason's Moving on Stage a year later. Chan's Moving on Stage1 concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in October and November 2007. Chan has performed 45 concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum as of January 2008.

In February 2008, Chan began Moving on Stage World Tour. He travelled to Taiwan, Canada, Australia, Guangzhou, Macau, Macau, Singapore, Kunming, Chongqing, Shenzhen, San Francisco, Hangzhou, Guiyang, Beijing, and Foshan. Chan's Moving on Stage World Tour ended on Stage 26 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 16, 2009.

Chan began a new tour in mainland China named "Ninety Minutes of Bliss" months after his Moving On Stage Concerts came to an end. Chan travelled to Europe for his first European tour date after the May "Ninety Minutes of Bliss" concerts in Beijing. He toured three cities in the course of five days: London, Manchester, and Rotterdam. The three concerts were held in Royal Albert Hall, Manchester Apollo, and Rotterdam Ahoy. Within hours of ticket sales, tickets to his London and Manchester concerts were sold out. After Roman Tam's appearance in the opulent Royal Albert Hall, Chan is Hong Kong's second Hong Kong artist to appear.

Faye Wong made a special guest appearance at Chan's Beijing Workers' Stadium on September 29, 2011, surprising many as Wong had not even been invited to appear as a special guest at another singer's performance; this was the first time she did so.

Chan, who is currently on tour with Duo Eason Chan 2010 Concert World Tour, made his second appearance in London, the O2 Arena, on April 23, 2012. He was the first Asian artist to perform in the O2 stage. In twenty minutes to 12,000 people, the concert was sold out in twenty minutes to 12,000 people.

Chan appeared on his 100th show of Another Eason Life's World Tour in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on December 4, 2015. It was the first time a Hongkongese singer had appeared at the Centre Bell. In 2016, the tour came to a conclusion, after he took a break from concert touring.

Chan began Eason Says C mon Intour in September 2017, which is known for its appearances in small stadiums such as Macpherson Stadium, Hong Kong, which holds only around 2500 people. The album's price was set at HK$750.

Chan appeared on the second program of Love Music Tour 05, organized by Netvigator, on August 18 and 19. He was the actor and director. Includes famous comedian Jim Chim (), singer Wilfred Lau (), Taiwanese singer Mavis Fan (), Best Supporting Actress of the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards Josie Ho (), pop duo at17 and Soler. The story was about a competition between different angels (played by the stars) to protect the world's only man alive (played by Eason Chan). George Lam (anonymous) played Chan's late father. The audience was captivated by the performers, who told the tale through song and dance.

Because of Hong Kong's unpredictable weather, Chan announced on November 21 that "Fear and Dreams" concerts would be cancelled.
