Anggun Career

Life and career

Anggun was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is Darto Singo, a Javanese writer, and Dien Herdina, a housewife from the Yogyakartan royal family, and she is her second child and first daughter. In Balinese, her full name means "grace born of a dream." Despite being a Muslim, Anggun was sent to a Catholic school to receive a Catholic education. Anggun began receiving specialized instruction in singing from her father at the age of seven. She trained regularly, mastering various vocal styles. Her mother began working as her boss, accepting singing positions and handling company issues to aid in her career development. Anggun began to write her own songs and released her first children's album at the age of 11.

Anggun was influenced by Western rock music performers as a youth. Dunia Aku Punya (1986), she released her first official studio album at the age of fourteen. Ian Antono, an Indonesian rock musician, produced the album. However, the album did not succeed in establishing her fame. Anggun gained a following after the single "Mimpi" was released; the album was later named one of the Top Indonesian Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone Indonesia; Anggun's fame continued to increase with the introduction of new singles, most notably "Tua Keladi" (1990), which became the country's most popular hit. Anggun released the studio albums Anak Putih Abu (1991) and Nocturno (1992), following a string of hit singles. The former was given the Most Popular Indonesian Artist 1990-1991 award.

Anggun formed a friendship with Michel Georgea, a French engineer who had visited Kalimantan the year before. Despite a rumored objection by Anggun's relatives, the couple married, despite a suspicion that Anggun's family had a problem because the Anggun was too old. Georgea became the manager of Anggun later. Anggun became the youngest Indonesian singer to found her own record company, Bali Cipta Records, in the following year, and regained complete creative control over her work. Anggun C. Sasmi was her final Indonesian studio album.

Lah!!!

(1993), which resulted in the number one single "Kembalilah Kasih (Kita Harus Bicara)" on the chart. Anggun had already sold over four million albums in Indonesia by age nineteen. She began to feel dissatisfied with her country's success and began to think about a foreign music career. "It's time" Anggun recalled: "I was 20, I'd made five albums at the time." I'd created my own record store. I'd made my last album and performed some Indonesian shows as well.

And I said to myself: 'I'm tired!

I can't do more than I already have. "Nothing's wrong now," says the author.

Yang Hilang, Anggun's first hits album of her Indonesian hits, was released in 1994. She later sold her record company to finance her move to Europe and then migrated to London for about a year. In a 2006 interview with Trax magazine, Anggun admitted to being shocked by "culture shock" and having some significant financial challenges when starting her new life in Europe, saying, "I thought the money earned by selling my record company was enough [to maintain life in London] but little by little." I had to spend so much on cabs and eating! "I ended up taking buses everywhere and going to clubs to introduce myself as a musician." "She had to go from being a shy, introverted, 'authentic' Javanese woman to a 'fake' Javanese woman,' to an unabashed, fearless,'real' Javanese woman,' she explained.

She began writing songs and recording demos, but after a few months, all of the demos she had sent to recording companies around the UK were returned with no responses. She began to consider moving to another country and considered moving to the Netherlands but then decided on France. Erick Benzi, who had previously worked with Celine Dion, Jean-Jacques Goldman, and Johnny Hallyday, was introduced to Francois Pagny, one of France's top musicians; her international career began in 1996. Anggun learned about how a French artist performs on stage and interacts with audiences by accompanying him on his tours and shows later in the day. He was born Anggun's mentor on an instant. Benzi began to offer her a recording contract after being impressed by Anggun's natural abilities. Anggun was sold to Columbia France and Sony Music Entertainment later this year. Anggun started working on her first album with Benzi after a brief French course at Alliance Française, as a French student. She learned French by immerding herself in terms of music, film, literature, and other topics. Hélène et les Garçons was one of her favorite TV shows that helped Anggun to comprehend French.

Erick Benzi wrote her first song, "La Rose des vents," and later an album called Anggun, whose flagship product, La Neige au Sahara, was selected as the first single. This started his career and enabled him to be well-known to the general public. Columbia, a Sony Music affiliate, first released the album in Japan in 1997. This collection includes nineteen songs, three of which are in French. It was released in France in 1998 with sixteen songs, fifteen in French, with fifteen in French. It was finally released in the United States under the name Snow on the Sahara in 1999, with only eleven songs in English, all in English. The album is available in 35 countries, and Anggun guarantees the promotion (United States, Indonesia, Italy, etc.). He was on the road to three years. Patrick Buchmann (drums, percussion, vocals), Nicolas-Yvan Mingot (guitar), Yannick Hardouin (bass), and Patrice Clémentin (keyboards) are accompanied by her. The record's worldwide sales of the book have surpassed 900,000 copies and have been designated as a "double gold record."

Following her debut in June 1997, Anggun released Au nom de la lune, her first French-language album. The album was a drastic departure from Anggun's early rock style, experimented with world music, and more mature modern sounds. Anggun called the album "a mash-up of all the musical influences of my life." I want to introduce Indonesia but in a progressive way, in a lyric, in a safe manner, and mainly through me." "La neige au Sahara," the album's first single, became a hit in France, debuting at number 1 on the French Airplay Chart and number 16 on the French Singles Chart and at number 16 on the French Singles Chart. With a total of 7,900 radio airplays, it became France's most popular single of 1997, and was awarded gold for shipment of 250,000 copies. "La rose des vents" and "Au nom de la lune," two more commercial singles, were released with modest chart success. The album debuted at number 34 on the French Albums Chart, and it has sold over 150,000 copies in France and Belgium. In Victoires de la Musique, Anggun was nominated for the La révélation de l'année award (Revelation of the Year/Best New Artist) (a Grammy Award-equivalent in France's classical music scene). Céline Dion also attended as guest on a French television show, Tapis rouge, where she performed her song. They met together for the first time in person, and they performed Chain of Fools and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman with Aretha Franklin's hits, Chain of Fools, and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

Snow on the Sahara, the English version of the album, was distributed in 33 countries around Asia, Europe, and America from late 1997 to early 1999. The album included songs on Au nom de la lune, translated to English by songwriter Nikki Matheson, and a cover version of David Bowie's hit "Life on Mars." Anggun featured an Indonesian song "Kembali," which became a big success in the region. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called the album "a promising debut effort" because "she showcases a full range of talent on the album." "On Snow on the Sahara, Angguns polished ballads, Latin-pop, and dance-pop, proving she can perform both styles well," Erlewine said. "Snow on the Sahara," the album's first single, debuted in Italy, Spain, and several Asian nations, as well as the top five on the UK Club Chart, with a commercial success. The song was also used as the soundtrack for a multinational marketing campaign launched by Swiss watchmaker Swatch. Snow on the Sahara has sold over 1.5 million copies around the world and has been named the Diamond Export Sales Award for the Sahara.

Snow on the Sahara was first published by Epic Records in North America in May 1998. Anggun spent nine months in the United States to market the album, including as a support act for many artists like The Corrs and Toni Braxton, as well as performing at the Lilith Fair (with Sarah McLachlan and Erykah Badu on stage). She has appeared on American television shows including The Rosie O'Donnell Show, Sessions at West 54th, Penn & Teller's Sin City Spectacular, and CNN WorldBeat; she was also featured in printed media such as Rolling Stone and Billboard. However, Snow on the Sahara was not a commercial success in the United States. The album reached number 23 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart and sold 200,000 units. The single debuted at number 16 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts and at number 22 in the Billboard Adult Top 40. On her "Snow on the Sahara" album, Sarah Brightman did a cover version of "Snow on the Sahara" songs. Live from Las Vegas in 2004. Ilaria Porceddu, an Italian singer, also covered the song on her debut album, Suono naturale, in 2008. The album song "On the Breath of an Angel" was later used as the soundtrack of American television series Passions and television film The Princess and the Marine, which both of which aired on NBC, was later used as the soundtrack to American television series Passions and television series The Princess and the Marine.

Anggun's seven-year marriage to Michel Georgea in 1999 brought her to a new studio album. Désirs contraires, her second French album, was released in September 1999. It was an artistic departure from Au nom de la lune, exploring electropop and ambient elements as well as R&B music. Erick Benzi's album was also produced, but it did feature some of Anggun's compositions. The dissenter's defiance of the previous album was impossible to repeat. It reached number 48 on the French Albums Chart and has sold about 30,000 copies in France. From the album, only two singles were released: the tropical-sounding "Un geste d'amour" and the R&B-influenced "Derrière la porte" and the R&B-influenced "Derrière la porte." Both singles failed to achieve commercial success, though "Un geste d'amour" reached number 62 on the French Singles Chart, despite this. It was the English version of the album that had a wider success. Chrysalis was first introduced as a result of Désirs contradictory and portrayed a significant artistic development for Anggun, who had co-written the entire book. The album was never released in the United States due to the poor sales of her first album, which was available in 15 countries simultaneously. The album released "Still Reminds Me," a hit single that received a lot of airplay in Asia and Europe. It was her third top-one hit in Indonesia since her international career and her third top-20 single in Italy (peaking at number 17). It also ranked fifth on the Music & Media European Border Breakers Chart. "Yang 'Ku Tunggu" (the Indonesian version of "Un geste d'amour"), her second most popular Anggun in the region, became another number-one hit for the Anggun.

Anggun released her second album in 2000, but it was still under the auspices of Erick Benzi, Desires Contraires. In France, the record received little attention, and it went unnoticed. It has exported well, particularly to Indonesia (platinum record) and Italy (gold record). The album was released in fifteen Asian countries simultaneously, including Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Japan. Céline Dion also performed on her album Une fille et quatre styles in 2003, a number of Tu nages on the track list of Désirs Contraires.
