Derrick Green Life

Derrick Leon Green (born January 20, 1971) is an American singer best known for his Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura.

After the departure of group founder Max Cavalera in 1997, he joined the band in 1997. "There was a time when the thought of Sepultura recording without Max Cavalera seemed unreasonable."

However, the incendiary Green was a good substitute."

Early life

Green, the youngest of three children, was born in Cleveland, Ohio; his sister Renée Green is an artist, writer, and filmmaker. When Green was seven, Green's father, Friendly, an electrician, and mother, Gloria, a music tutor, moved the family from inner-city Cleveland to surbuban Shaker Heights. "This was my first live interaction with white people," Green later recalled. Green knew he wanted to leave the United States early, and he stayed in Berlin for a while before heading from New York to So Paulo.

Personal life

Green replied in 2011: When asked about his religious convictions, he said no.

Green has a distinct American accent and speaks fluent Portuguese. He formerly lived in Carapicu, S.O.R., but now lives in Los Angeles.

Green is a vegan. Since 1986, he has been a vegetarian. In a PETA video interview about Sepultura's 2006 film "Convicted in Life," he made it explicit. In the interview, Derrick said that the subject of this video is that some sort of "karma" is inflicted on those that harm the climate and wildlife.

Derrick Green Career

Music career

Green joined the already formed thrash metal/hardcore band Outface, which was founded in 1985. After the departure of their two former musicians, he rejoined the band in 1986 at the age of 15. Charlie Garriga (CIV), bassist Frank Cavanagh (Prong and Filter), and drummer Mark Konopka were among the band's members. They had two demos, one in 1987 and the other in 1989. They were then offered a recording contract by a friend from New York, Walter Schicksand, Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits), for a recording contract with Crisis Records for one studio album, Friendly Green, which was named after Green's father, who was released in 1992. Their music varied between rock, heavy metal, and punk with ska elements, mostly ska. On the Outface press, Green was credited as Simon Verde ("Verde" is translated as "Verde" in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian). With this line, they toured and performed in many cities on the east coast and south of the United States, as well as a one tour in Europe.

Green and Garriga decided to move to New York City after being back from Europe's tour. Cavanagh stayed but later joined the band Filter, but later joined the band Filter. Konopka also decided to stay and recorded one album with the band Integrity.

Eric Thrice, a bass player who was replaced by Sara Cox to form Overfiend, joined Green and Garriga in New York. The band was named after the brutal Japanese animation film Legend of the Overfiend. They recorded a three-song demo with the help of Schengler, who aided in the development of metal and heavy rock. Sick of It All opened their first show in Sick of It All's opening on Staten Island. This will be their first appearance. Garriga and Siegler have left the band to join and form CIV.

Green would play guitar and sing with Sara Cox in 1996 and then form the band Alpha Jerk. Luke Abby (Warzone, Gorilla Biscuits), was later recruited by the band, who was later replaced by Nick Heller (Sweet Diesel). On Toybox Records, they will debut one self-titled album. They were able to appear at a few shows in the New York area, as well as doing a few shows with the band Lunachicks and Demonspeed. On New York's Hardest, Vol. 2, two songs were included. 2 compilation.

Green was approached by A&R rep Mike Gitter of Roadrunner Records in 1997. Max Cavalera, the band's frontman from Sepultura, had left the band in 1996 and was looking for a new singer, according to him. Green was suggested that he try out for the position. Sepultura had recorded one song without vocals to see what people from all around the world could come up with. Green obtained a hold of Gitter's tape, and he conceived his idea for the song "Choke" and sent it to Brazil. Igor Cavalera, Sepultura's drummer, called him a month later. He was then asked to fly to So Paulo, Brazil, to see everyone and audition for the position. Green flew out a week later, met everybody, and auditioned for two weeks. Green was asked to return to Brazil to record his first album, Against Sepultura.

The bulk of Against was written before Green entered the band. In 1998, the company was announced in 1998 and the troupe embarked on a world tour. Green went from New York to Amsterdam while on a promo tour. The album was both critically and commercially less successful than previous Sepultura albums, as many followers were still mourning the absence of Max Cavalera from the band. "There are enough flashes of the old Sepultura brilliance to suggest that great things are yet to come," AllMusic gave the album 3 stars out of 5.

Nation will be Green's first album to be published from beginning to end. He wanted to be closer to the company and work on the new stuff, so he migrated to So Paulo. Nation, the band's eighth album with Roadrunner Records, was released in 2001 but it did not do well. "As Green scrapes the lining of his vocal chords across the album's blistering, brash, impassioned tracks, he's singing about more than one tribe, Sepulnation," he says; it's something worth shouting about and fighting for." In an interview, Derrick said of the album that "every song will be linked to the idea of creating this image of a prosperous world." Our own flag, our own anthem, and our own army will be displayed.

When the company's deal came to an end, Nation became the group's last studio album with Roadrunner Records. One more album was available, but the corporation was concerned that the brand was not strong enough. In 2002, Roadrunner Records released Under a Pale Grey Sky, Max Cavalera's last live show with Sepultura, against the band's wishes.

The band's Revolusongs, an EP of cover songs, was released. The EP was limited to Brazil and Japan, but then the band was picked up by record label SPV and Revolusongs and later included as a bonus disc on Roorback's digipak version, the next full-length studio album with Green. The idea of a music video of U2's song "Bullet the Blue Sky" was born of a collaboration between video producer Ricardo Della Rosa and Green. It was named best photography in the 2003 Brazil MTV music awards show.

Despite Roorback's critical acclaim, sales remained low. Allmusic gave the album 4 stars out of 5 and said, "If there are still any doubts about the Green/Sepultura match, 2003's superb Roorback should put them to rest for good." Green is passionate and concentrated on the album throughout the series — he has no problem going the extra mile — and the writing is always good."

All the tracks on the DVD Live in So Paulo were recorded on April 3, 2005, at a concert in So Paulo, Brazil. A CD with the same name was also released. Both were released on November 8, 2005, through SPV Records. Green's second DVD features a documentary about the band's involvement from 1998 to 2005, which was shot and co-edited.

Dante XXI was released on March 14, 2006. It's a concept album based on Dante's The Divine Comedy, a book that Green read in high school and suggested to the band for the album's design. Green developed the concept with the video editor Luis Carone in a "Convicted in Life" video. In a video at the Brazil MTV music awards show in 2006, the video received the best editing in a video and best direction in a video.

"Overall, Dante XXI is easily one of Sepultura's best launches to feature Green on vocals," Allmusic said of the album, out of 5. After the debut of Dante XXI, Igor Cavalera left the band. For the majority of the Dante XXI tour, he was replaced by Brazilian drummer Jean Dolabella, who they carried on and toured with.

On January 26, 2009, Sepultura unveiled the album A-Lex. A-Lex is a concept album based on Anthony Burgess' book A Clockwork Orange. Allmusic rated the album 4 stars out of 5 and said that "personnel changes can have a big effect on a band," a statement by Sepultura, has remained strong and vibrant on the album.

Sepultura has signed a deal with Nuclear Blast Records and will debut their first album Kairos for the label in 2011. Roy Z (Judas Priest, Halford, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, Helloween) was the project's producer for the new album.

In 2008, Green joined Musica Diablo, a thrash metal band with members of Nitrominds, Aço Direta, and Dead Fish. The band's self-titled debut album was available on both CD and MP3 downloads on May 28, 2010. "Mega Diablo's extreme fast thrash metal, with the traditional Brazilian style and a strong roots in the 1980s veterans, made them unique," the CD Universe said, and that the need to record a proper album was eminent. In Rio de Janeiro, the band released their first album in January 2010 with well-known producer Rafael Ramos. Derrick Green recorded his vocals in So Paulo, a month after Rafael's production. The result is a brutal, blast-in-your-face collection of 11 songs of sheer brutality and pure Brazilian Thrash Metal." Green has since left Musica Diablo.

Green appeared on several CDs, including Biohazard's Uncivilization and the Brazilian film Lisbela e o Prisioneiro.

In 2008, Green appeared with Sepultura in a strong ad campaign for Volkswagen that aired nationally throughout Brazil. "It's the first time you've seen Sepultura like this," the spot said. And a sedan like this one. "You never saw anything like this before," Volkswagen's TV spot says of Sepultura's playing boss, the opposite of its Heavy Metal style, saying, "you never saw anything like this" because you never saw a car like the latest Voyage."

Green is currently working on a three-volume book collection of his photography and writings that will be published in late 2011/2012. Every volume will be published at different times.

Green was working on a side project called Maximum Hedrum in 2013.
