Darren McMullen (born 10 February 1982) is a Scottish-Australian television and radio presenter and personality, music journalist and music critic.

He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and immigrated with his family to Australia at the age of 12.

He now lives in Los Angeles, California.

He is best known as the host of The Voice Australia, opposite Sonia Kruger.

Prior to his career as a presenter, he was a student at Bradfield College and then an advertising executive.In August 2019, McMullen performed as the 'Prawn' in the first season of The Masked Singer Australia.

Personal life

McMullen was in a relationship with Crystal Reed from July 2013 to early 2019. McMullen had previously said that the two had planned on marriage and children, but he was not willing to get married until his country of Australia legalised same-sex marriage. It was legalised in December 2017.

Career

McMullen's career as a host and host began with Arena's Exclusive news on Foxtel, as well as appearances in major television advertisements for Westfield and Gloria Jean's. In 2007 and 2008, Darren appeared on MTV Australia's The Lair weekly. McMullen produced Ignition, a monthly car DVD, in addition to hosting on The Lair.

On the Nine Network in 2009, he hosted Commercial Breakdown. McMullen appeared on the Seven Network in 2010 as the host of their new primetime game show Minute to Win It.

McMullen debuted on NBC in the United States and CTV in Canada on June 29, 2011. McMullen has since returned to the United Kingdom to host Minute to Win It on ITV2 (which was cancelled after one eight-episode season) and hosted Series 2 of The Magicians on BBC One.

When the first version of The Voice Australia debuted in 2012, it was revealed that McMullen would host The Voice Australia. McMullen co-hosted the program with Faustina Agolley in 2012 and 2013. In Season 3 of 2014, he took over as a solo host, but Nine Network personality Sonia Kruger followed him for Season 4 in 2015. McMullen revealed on social media that he was leaving The Voice after four seasons. Sonia Kruger will continue to be the solo host.

McMullen hosted the six-episode film Outsiders on National Geographic Channel in 2014, which centered on alternative lifestyles and took him on taboo adventures.

McMullen appeared on House Husbands as Alex Larden in 2014.

McMullen had re-joined the Seven Network once more to host The Big Music Quiz, a new program on March 13, 2016.

McMullen appeared in The Masked Singer Australia's first season in late 2019 as the Prawn, and he was fifth voted out of the competition.

McMullen competed on the sixth season of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia in 2022. He ended the series as the runner-up, raising over $500,000 for his chosen charity Feel the Magic. On Network 10, he is also expected to host Australia's version of The Real Love Boat.
