Sonia Melissa Kruger (born 28 August 1965) is an Australian television presenter and media personality who has been a prominent figure in the media for more than 20 years.

Sonia is best known for co-hosting the popular Australian version of Dancing with the Stars and as Tina Sparkle in the 1992 film Strictly Ballroom. She also appeared on Today Extra and hosted The Voice Australia.

Kruger also covered a variety of other events during her time at the Seven Network, including the network's coverage of the Olympics, Melbourne Cup & Australian Open.

Early life

Born in Toowoomba, Queensland, she attended Beenleigh State High School, graduating Year 12 in 1982. Kruger completed an arts degree at the University of Technology, Sydney, and taught dance at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney.

Personal life

Kruger was married for six years (2002 to 2008) to James Davies, a British-born banker.

Craig McPherson, executive producer of Today Tonight, was noticing her new companion after the marriage ended in September 2008. Both she and McPherson had been searching for a child for years, using both IVF and natural methods. She became pregnant several times, but they ended in miscarriages. She revealed she was pregnant in August 2014 and had conceived via invitro fertilisation (IVF) using a donor egg. Maggie Kruger was born in January 2015 and was the youngest of her child.

Kruger first made her acting debut in the AFI Award-winning film Strictly Ballroom in 1992. She also served as a ballroom advisor on the film. This is her first acting appearance to date. Wonder World, her film debut, starred the children's variety show Wonder World. On the Nine Network, the people who designed the website were born. Kruger has been a entertainment reporter for Seven Network shows Today Tonight, Sunrise, and 11 a.m. She appeared on morning on Sydney-based radio station Mix 106.5 with Dancing with the Stars judges Todd McKenney and Andy Grace.

Kruger appeared in Dancing with the Stars, the Australian version of the UK BBC television program Strictly Come Dancing, which was released in 2004. Daryl Somers and Daniel MacPherson co-hosted the series over the course of the eleven seasons in which she appeared. Kruger was confirmed to host the Seven Network makeover reality show ten years Younger in ten days in September 2008. Despite high demand for its series premiere, Seven Network did not renew the series for a second season.

Kruger revealed in November 2011 that she was leaving Dancing with the Stars and the Seven Network to pursue other opportunities. Kruger also signed a Nine Network development contract in November 2011. With singer and actress David Campbell, she was confirmed to host her own daytime talk show, Mornings. The series was intended to replace Kerri-Anne, which had ended in the same month. The series premiered on February 6, 2012 (and has since been rebranded as Today Extra). Kruger was also revealed to star in Nine Network's revival of the competition reality show Big Brother Australia. Kruger renamed Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O, who hosted the series on Network Ten in its eighth season, after which the series was cancelled in 2008, to 1.6 million viewers, the franchise's highest ratings since the series's third season. Kruger would appear on the fourth series of The Voice Australia as a co-host with Darren McMullen on February 22, 2015.

Kruger was announced as a co-host of Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight alongside David Campbell in November 2017. Lisa Wilkinson, who had resigned from the Nine Network, was recalled. Allison Langdon was sent by Kruger after de defecting to the Seven Network.

Kruger was confirmed as a host on the Nine Network's latest travel show, Helloworld, on August 8, 2018. However, Lauren Phillips, Denis Walter, and Steven Jacobs were replaced by Giaan Rooney, who now appears on the Seven Network as a host, beginning with series 2.

Kruger resigned from the Nine Network in November 2019. For the last time on Friday, November 15th, she hosted Today Extra for the last time. James Warburton, the network's CEO, confirmed that she would be on the network and that her appearances would include hosting Mega Mini Golf's forthcoming reality show.

Kruger will host a revival of Big Brother in February 2020, but the Seven Network will no longer be broadcasting the forthcoming series Holey Moley. However, Kruger was announced as the show's host in October 2020.

Kruger appeared on The Voice in 2021 after Seven decided the rights to the franchise were not renewed after the Nine Network's inability to renew its contract with the network. Kruger is the current co-host of Channel 7's Dancing With The Stars: All Stars, co-starring Daryl Somers, her original co-host Daryl Somers.
