Cody Jay Canada (born May 25, 1976 in Pampa, Texas) is an American rock/alt-country musician who currently serves as the lead singer and lead guitarist of the band The Departed since 2010.

Cross Canadian Ragweed, a rock/alt country band, formed from 1994 to 2010.

Early life

In 1976, Canada was born in Pampa, Texas. Since attending a George Strait concert with his parents at the age of four, he developed a passion for music. He asked for a guitar the next day. At the age of eight, Canada's first child learned to play guitar. When Cody was a teen, the Canada family moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, and as a youth, they were drawn to rock bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam and even outlawed the country.

Personal life

Shannon Canada is married to Shannon Canada, who also owns The Departed and their brand Underground Sound. He has two sons, Dierks Cobain Canada (named after personal friend and country singer Kurt Cobain) and Willy Vedder Canada (named after Reckless Kelly member Willy Braun and Pearl Jam's longtime lead singer Eddie Vedder) and Willy Vedder Canada (named after Reckless Kelly member Willy Braun and Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder). Dierks is a member of Waves, a rock band, and he has appeared in live shows with Cody. He is also the brother of fellow red dirt musician Wade Bowen, who married his sister-in-law Shelby. In Ragweed songs Highway 377, Carry You Home (of off 2002's Soul Gravy), and When it All Goes Down (Garage, 2005). He and his family reside in New Braunfels, Texas.
