Angaleena Loletta McCoy Presley (born September 1, 1976) is an American country music singer-songwriter.
She is a member of the female country trio Pistol Annies, which was formed in 2011 with Miranda Lambert and Ashley Monroe, and has released two solo albums, American Middle Class (2014) and Wrangled (2017).
Personal life
Angaleena Presley was born in Martin County, Kentucky, and raised in Beauty, Kentucky. Jimmy Presley Sr., a retired coal miner and her mother, Cathy Presley (née McCoy), is a retired school teacher and a former school teacher. "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard taught her how to play her first song on his guitar at age 15. Sheldon Clark High School in Inez, Kentucky, graduated in 1994 before attending college at Eastern Kentucky University. Presley began writing "Knocked Up" in Nashville in 2002 and later developed the song "Knocked Up" from her own personal experience of being pregnant and unmarried. Jed, her son, was born in 2007. Presley was going through a divorce when the Pistol Annies first emerged in the early 2010s. Loretta Lynn's insists that her upbringing was not "the brutal, poverty-stricken one" as promised on the 'Coal Miner's Daughter'. That doesn't mean the Presleys didn't fail or that the singer lived a charmed life after leaving Beauty. She married manager/producer Jordan Powell in a small ceremony in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on May 22, 2012. Presley announced on August 15, 2018, pregnant with her second child (first with Powell) and giving birth to their daughter Joeleena in January 2019.
Career
Presley moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she landed a publishing contract nine months later. Ashley Monroe, who later brought Presley's music to the attention of her friend Miranda Lambert, was discovered by her publisher. The three performers began recording songs together, which would later become Pistol Annies' debut album Hell on Heels, which was released on August 23, 2011. For their follow-up album, the band spent much of the next two years touring North America and writing songs. Pistol Annies' second album Annie Up appeared on May 7, 2013. The RIAA revealed on June 17, 2013 that Hell on Heels' album and single had both sold in excess of 500,000 copies, giving Pistol Annies their first Gold Record. Presley's solo album American Middle Class, co-produced with her husband Jordan Powell, was released in 2014. Presley's second solo album, Wrangled, was released in 2017.
