Career
Clara (born Lee Sung-Min) made her debut in 2005 under her birthname in 2005 and starred in her first film, Five Senses of Eros. Clara, which was announced at a press conference for the drama series Taking Care of Us, Captain, in January 2012, was adopted as her stage name. The reason for the name change included that her birth name, Sung-min, was "male-sounding" and that her English name had always been Clara.
Clara made a world-wide breakthrough in May 2013 by tossing a ceremonial first pitch in a professional baseball game wearing form-fitting leggings. Since being praised as both an up-and-coming celebrity and a sex symbol, she has been widely celebrated. Clara drew criticism from South Korean netizens for reportedly contradicting herself on television by stating that she likes chicken and drink beer in one program and opposing it in another. She also closed down her Twitter and Facebook pages. She appeared in several television series Goddess of Marriage (2013) and Emergency Couple (2014), as well as a leading role in the sex comedy film Casa Amor (2015).
Polaris Entertainment filed a lawsuit in December 2014 seeking to nullify her employment on the grounds of being sexually assaulted by its president Lee Kyu-tae; Polaris denied these charges and said that Clara had been blackmailing the company to end her contract, which is set to expire in 2018. Prosecutors charged Clara of the blackmail charges in July 2015, and charged Lee for making threats against her that implied physical harm.
Clara dropped her appeal against Polaris Entertainment on September 18, bringing their court fight to a close.
