Brooks Wheelan Career

Career

Wheelan began doing stand-up comedy in Iowa, then moved to Kansas City and Chicago, then to Los Angeles, where he began to perform stand-up comedy full-time. He appeared on Saturday Night Live as a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles while doing research on eyes and heart valves. Wheelan was hired to write for Saturday Night Live for the 2013–2014 season and was made a cast member the week before the season began. Wheelan began his "The Brooks Wheelan Falls Back on Stand-Up Comedy (Sorta) Tour" after being fired from Saturday Night Live. He appeared on Conan as part of his tour promotion.

This Is Cool, Right? Wheelan's first stand-up comedy album This Is Cool. Right? On January 27, 2015, a cclaim was granted to a major news. The Laugh Button dubbed it "one of the best albums of 2015," according to The A.V.

Club wrote, "This Is Cool, Right?

It's at turns manic, sincere, and completely absurd. Brooks crafts jokes not like sketches, and he has an eye for storytelling that uncovers universal truths in his personal life. He appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers as part of the new year's best sellers. On a September 2015 episode of Comedy Central's The Half Hour, Wheelan also performed a stand-up set.

Wheelan appeared on Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update segment, with his stand-up tales as public service announcements against irresponsible conduct. The Bruce Willis / Katy Perry episode focused on tattoos that have no meaning, with Wheelan showing off three tattoos he had in his youth: a tribal stamp on his left arm, a nautical star on his right arm, and a strange oceanscape on his left arm (which doesn't make sense to him because he grew up in Iowa, which isn't a coastal state). The Anna Kendrick / Pharrell Williams episode centered on the dangers of alcohol use, including the tale of how his friends put butter down his pants as he was blacked out inebriated, with Wheelan concerned that he was dying from an unidentified sexually transmitted disease.

Wheelan revealed on Twitter on July 14, 2014 that he was no longer a cast member of Saturday Night Live, saying, "FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT." Wheelan denied that he was upset and that he is still close to some of the cast members a few days later. He says he likes stand-up comedy.

With Brooks Wheelan, Wheelan introduced the podcast Entry Level on October 24, 2017. In each episode, he interviews a guest about the often low-paying or no vacancies they had before they found success in the entertainment industry.
