Career

Harvey has been a boxer, an autoworker, an insurance salesman, a carpet cleaner, and a mail carrier. At the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland, Ohio, he first performed stand-up comedy on October 8, 1985. Harvey was homeless for three years in the late 1980s. He slept in his 1976 Ford when not doing gigs that provided a hotel, and he acted at gas stations or swimming pool showers. Rich and Becky Liss assisted Harvey during this period with a job for carpet cleaning and credit at a travel company.

Harvey was a finalist in the second annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search on April 16, 1990, and he went on to host It's Showtime at the Apollo, replacing Mark Curry in that role. In 1994, his success as a stand-up comedian led to a starring role on ABC's short-lived Me and the Boys. He'll appear on the WB network show The Steve Harvey Show, which aired from 1996 to 2002. Despite being popular, the performance never gained critical acclaim outside of the African-American community.

Harvey continued his stand-up comedy in 1997, along with Cedric the Entertainer, D.L., who appeared on the Kings of Comedy tour. Hughley and Bernie MacDonaldy. The tour became the highest grossing comedy tour in history, grossing $18 million in its first year and $19 million in its second. The comedic act will later be put together in Spike Lee's film The Original Kings of Comedy. That name was also used for his comedy and variety television series (later renamed Steve Harvey's Big Time Challenge), which aired on The WB network from 2003 to 2005.

Harvey is the host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show, a weekday morning radio show that he has hosted since 2000. It was first syndicated by Radio One Inc. from September 2000 to May 2005. The program is syndicated in the United States as of 2019.

He appeared in the 2003 film The Battle Temptations, alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé Knowles. Clarence Johnson appeared in the film Love Don't Cost a Thing for the second year. In 2004, he appeared in the films Johnson Family Vacation and You Got Served, and in 2005, he co-starred in the film Racing Stripes as Buzz's voice.

Harvey launched Steve Harvey's Stand-Up Special in 2006: Don't Trip... Leslie Small is the narrator of this story. Harvey did not use profanity during the film, but not during the program. Harvey hosted the Disney Dreamers Academy, a youth-focused personal and professional enrichment celebration that took place at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, from January 17 to 20, 2008.

In 2009, Harvey published Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. The book is about how women and relationships are perceived by men. Think Like a Man, a 2012 film based on the novel, is an ensemble romantic comedy starring characters giving tips on dating from the book. The hardcover version of The New York Times best-seller list spent 64 weeks, with 23 of those weeks at No. 1 in the United States. 1.

In September 2010, Harvey began hosting Family Feud. Under Harvey, the show has seen rises in ratings, and he has surpassed every other Feud host in terms of consecutive tenures. Celebrity Family Feud is also a show on YouTube, where celebrities compete for a chance to contribute up to $25,000 to their favorite charity. On ABC, the show airs during the summer.

Harvey appeared at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on August 2, 2012, bringing an end to a 27-year career as a stand-up comedian. On pay-per-view, the two-hour show was broadcast live on pay-per-view.

Harvey hosted the Miss Universe 2016 pageant in the Philippines on January 30, 2017, telling the Miss Universe Organization that he wanted to personally apologize to the Filipinos for the event that took place in the last Miss Universe pageant he hosted. On November 26, 2017, the Miss Universe 2019 pageant in Las Vegas, Georgia, and the Miss Universe 2021 pageant in Israel on December 13, 2021, he returned as host for the Miss Universe 2017 pageant in Las Vegas on November 26, 2017.

After the taping of an episode of Family Feud, Harvey gave a motivational address to audience members in January 2016. The speech was focused on helping people develop the skills they were born with. With leaping from a cliff and relying on the parachute (those gifts), he talks about helping you. The address was the inspiration for the book Leap: Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance, which was published by Harvey in 2016.

Harvey would host two showtime specials at the Apollo for Fox in October 2016. In November 2016, the Steve Harvey talk show was cancelled, and it was announced that Harvey had signed a deal with IMG to produce a new syndicated talk show in Los Angeles with NBCUniversal. Steve, the new series, premiered in September 2017 and was described as having more of a celebrity- and comedy-oriented feel with a greater degree of creative control, as opposed to the previous program's greater emphasis on human interest issues. Harvey's radio show and Family Feud were relocated to Los Angeles to facilitate the new series and production of Harvey's radio show and Family Feud.

Harvey is co-creator of Little Big Shots, a 2016 film; executive producers are Harvey and Ellen DeGeneres. Children are featured in the series and are seen as experts and in conversation with Harvey. He anchored the show from 2019 to 2020.

In 2017, Harvey merged all of his companies under Steve Harvey Global (SHG) ownership. East One Twelve, Harvey's in-house production company that creates digital media, films, and television are among the brands under SHG. The corporation also holds the rights for international versions of Family Feud, of which an African version of the exhibition is scheduled to premiere in 2020. In 2017, Sand and Soul Festival was also launched. Every year, the festival includes live music, comedy, and a question and answer session with Harvey and his wife Marjorie. He also founded Harvey Events, a boutique events business run by his daughter Morgan Hawthorne and son-in-law Kareem Hawthorne. In Atlanta, it has hosted FroRibbean Fest in 2018.

Harvey began hosting a New Year's Eve special from Times Square for Fox (which, like his talk show, will be produced in collaboration with IMG). Harvey was ordained in the state of New York two days before the broadcast to officiate an on-air wedding between Keven Undergaro and Maria Menounos during the special. The special was Fox's most watched New Year's Eve broadcast to date.

Harvey will be the host of the 8th annual NFL Honors at the end of 2018. Harvey said in his opening monologue, "What took y'all so long to ask me to host the show?" says Harvey. The following season, he will host the 9th annual show.
