Early life

Neil Stephen Cicierega was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 23, 1986. His father was a programmer, which meant he was surrounded by computers while growing up. He has a brother and two sisters. Emmy's brother, Emmy, went on to become a storyboard artist for animated series such as Gravity Falls, The Owl House, and the relaunch of DuckTales. Cicierega's early childhood began using a basic game building system called Klik & Play. His parents homeschooled him and his siblings starting in the fourth grade. He continued making amateur games and even started making digital music to play in them; he soon posted his music online under the name Trapezoid, which was later renamed to "Deporitaz" in honor of another band still named Trapezoid. He started composing MIDI music fragments that were later used in his later works.

Neil Cicierega Career

Career

Cicierega was first known for a line of dadaist or surrealist Flash animations, which he described as "Animutation." Animutations feature random, nonsensical scenes and pop culture icons and are often set to novelty or foreign music, often from the Japanese version of Pokémon.

Potter Puppet Pals by Cicerega is a parody of Harry Potter's book series. It began as a pair of Flash animations on Newgrounds in 2003 and then resurfaced in the form of a series of live action puppet shows available on YouTube and PotterPupals.com, beginning in 2006. Puppets are used to represent the central characters of the Harry Potter story. The Mysterious Ticking Noise, the most popular Potter Puppet Pals video, has over 200 million views (as of September 2022). At Harry Potter-themed performances, Cicerega has performed puppetry live.

Cicierega's musical project, Lemon Demon, has released ten full-length albums since 2003. On Newgrounds, he and animator Shawn Vulliez produced a Flash animated music video "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny." The song appeared on the album Dinosaurchestra later this year. In 2010, the band's latest recording of the song was released on the Rock Band Network.

Cicierega's first four albums were available on his website "neilcic.com" in April 2009, but they are now hosted on "lemondemon.com."

Cicierega released Spirit Phone, a full-length Lemon Demon album, on January 29, 2016. Needlejuice Records, who will later offer remastered copies of Lemon Demon's Christmas EP I Am Become Christmas, as well as Nature Tapes, View-Monster, and Dinosaurchestra announced on July 10, 2018.

Cicierega has also produced mashup music under his own name. In 2014 and 2017, he released Mouth Sounds and Mouth Silence as free downloads, and Mouth Moods, a third. Mouth Dreams, the fourth album from the artist, was released on September 30, 2020. All four albums are linked by their use of Smash Mouth's "All Star," which is repeated often in Sounds and Moods, and it appears in Easter Eggs and Silence. In Mouth Dreams "All Star" only appears in the track "Mouth Dreams (Extro), in which a heavily distorted interpretation of the lyrics can be heard.

Cicerega's darkly satirical "Windows 95 Tips, Tricks, and Tweaks" blog, which is located at www.winderbeat.com, in October 2012. Windows 95 is a brooding, sinister presence bent on ruling humanity, as shown by the blog. The bulk of the messages are fake error messages, with sad messages like "Windows needs a lock of your hair to continue" that are not included in the original graphical style of Windows 95. The blog has received a lot of buzz in the media.

Cicerega's first point-and-click adventure game, Satan Quest, was released on October 3, 2002. He announced Icon Architect 1.0, his second game on February 26, 2015, with themes similar to his "Windows 95 Tips, Tricks, and Tweaks" blog. He declared Monster Breeder on February 5, 2018.

Cicierega founded Endless Jeopardy, a Twitter account that automatically posts a bot-generated Jeopardy. Every hour, a prompt is introduced and gives points to the most admired responses within 15 minutes. He created "Bot Pops" (@BotPops), a Twitter account that writes jokes about popsicle sticks and then ends them with a punchline from the replies in March 2019. He created "4:3" (@FullscreenDream), a Twitter account that randomly produces GIFs from old commercials and CGI shorts in April 2019.

Cicierega was hired to produce three songs for the television series Gravity Falls: a theme song, a musical number for Bill Cipher titled "It's Gonna Get Weird," and the song "Goat and a Pig" (a parody of Natalie Cole's "This Will Be"). Both of Cicierega's theme songs and "It's Gonna Get Weird" were unusable, but "Goat and Pig" appeared during the credits sequence of season 2's "The Love God" episode "The Love God." "Gravitron," one of the two unpublished openings on the 2016 Lemon Demon album Spirit Phone, was released as a bonus track.
