On March 16, 1989, the band appeared at Club 88 in Los Angeles, CA, for the first time as Jawbreaker. In the summer of 1996, a jawbreaker was disbanded. They had been playing together for ten years and had released four albums. Their last performance at the Capitol Theater in Olympia, WA, was on May 19, 1996.

Jawbreaker announced on April 19, 2017 that they were reuniting after a 21-year absence and has appeared in numerous live shows since. They are also considering writing new content.

Schwarzenbach then formed the Jets in Brazil in 1997, with Jeremy Chatelain of Handsome and Chris Daly of Texas being the Reason. Jets to Brazil released three albums before disbanding after their summer tour in 2003.

Blake revealed in October 2008 that he recently began writing music for a then "unidentified group" with drummer Aaron Cometbus (formerly of Crimpshrine) and bassist Daniel Sea, who was previously of the Gr'ups and Cypher in the Snow but is best known for their recurring appearance on television's The L Word. The band has since been dubbed The Thorns of Life. The group has appeared in a couple of shows in Brooklyn as of November 2008, with videos and reviews available online.

Blake informed via Facebook:

Cometbus quit the band by early 2009 and appeared to be a dourrette. Although there has been no official announcement, many believe that the Thorns of Life are no longer available. On punknews.org, a official break-up was announced.

Blake revealed that forgetters, who were on Facebook, on August 23, 2009.
