Bertrand Traore Career

Club career

Traoré had joined the Chelsea Academy from French club Auxerre in August 2010, rejecting Manchester United in the process.

Traoré's in January 2011 had not signed for the club, and the club announced in January 2012 that Traoré was not and had never been a Chelsea player, but that he had only played for the club's youth team in a friendly as part of a six-week trial earlier this season. In a pre-season friendly against the Singha All Stars on July 17, 2013, he made his debut as a trialist.

Traoré officially signed a four-and-a-year deal with Chelsea on October 31, 2013. He signed a December 2013 deal with Chelsea's senior staff and completed the transfer on January 1st 2014.

Traoré opted for a loan for Erosivisie's Vitesse on January 2nd. Lucas Piazon, a fellow Chelsea loanee, made his debut on January 26th on his first appearance on Sunday, 67th minute. Traoré's first goal against Heerenveen came on March 29, 2014, on March 29th. He was recalled by Mike Havenaar after halftime; in the 67th minute, he scored Vitesse's second goal of the game, assisted by fellow Chelsea loanee Christian Atsu. In a home match against Ajax that resulted in a 1-1 draw, Traoré scored his second goal of the season on April 6th. For the first time in the match against Cambuur on April 12, Traoré put Vitesse in the lead, but Vitesse lost the game 4–3 at the end.

Traoré will remain on loan at Vitesse for the 2014–15 season, according to the company on July 7, 2014, who was notified on July 7, 2014. Traoré scored his first goal of the season on Saturday in a 4–1 win over Willem II on October 18th. Traoré converted from right to left wing during his first loan to Vitesse around December, with the right wing scoring in a 1–1 draw against Groningen. Traoré scored his first brace in a 4–0 victory over Ajax in the KNVB Cup, then won by 3–0 over Heracles three days later.

Traoré was granted a work permit and, therefore, permission to play for Chelsea from the 2015-16 season. He was issued the number 14 shirt, which had not been worn by André Schürrle before. Traoré made his Chelsea debut against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA Champions League group stage on September 16th, finishing as a 77th-minute replacement for Ruben Loftus-Cheek. On December 5th, his Premier League debut came as he appeared in the final seven minutes of a 0–1 home loss to AFC Bournemouth.

In five games in early 2016, Traoré scored four goals in five games. Traoré scored his first Chelsea goal in a 5–1 victory over Milton Keynes Dons in the FA Cup on January 31, 2016, a five-minute decision after coming on in place of Diego Costa. In a game of the same result against Newcastle United, two weeks later, he scored his first Premier League goal after being recalled Costa Rica. Traoré got off to a good start in a home Premier League match against Stoke City on Friday, with Costa Rica rested up for a Champions League match, but his result was described as "mixed" due to "failing to keep the ball in the box on a few occasions and being pulled offside needlessly."

Traoré signed a new three-year deal with Chelsea on loan for the 2016–17 season, reunited him with former Vitesse boss Peter Bosz on August 12, 2016. Traoré made his league debut off the bench on the following day, defeating Kasper Dolberg in a 2–2 home draw against Roda JC on the following day. Traoré made his first appearance in a Champions League play-off round against Rostov on August 16th, a 1–1 draw.

Traoré scored his first Ajax goal against Panathinaikos in a Europa League group stage tie on September 15, scoring Ajax's equalizer in a 2–1 victory. In a 5–1 victory over PEC Zwolle less than a week later, he scored his first league goal.

In an interview, Bosz said that he has "nothing wrong with his attitude," but that his form isn't good."

Traoré scored four goals in the 2016-17 UEFA Europa League, including two goals in the first leg of the semi-final against his future club Olympique Lyonnais. With Ajax losing to Manchester United 2–0, he played every minute of the final.

Traoré signed Olympique Lyonnais, a Ligue 1 side, on a five-year contract with a €10 million (£8.8 million) in initial transfer fees, as well as potential add-ons. Chelsea has inserted a buy-back clause into Traoré's deal, and if they sell Traoré in the future, they would receive 15% of any money earned by Lyon on the fee. If Traoré decides to leave Chelsea, they will also have first refusal.

Traoré formed an attacking trio with Mariano D'az and Memphis Depay, all of whom scored in double figures in league goals in his first season in France. He was sidelined with knee ligament damage from November 2017 to January, when he returned and scored a free kick for the reserve team in a 3–2 home loss to SC Schiltigheim in the fourth tier.

Traoré was the only player to miss in the penalty shootout after Paris Saint-Germain beat 6–5 after a goalless draw, in the 2020 Coupe de la Ligue Final, Saturday 31 July, the first match in the series; Keylor Navas saved his attempt.

Traoré joined Aston Villa in the Premier League on September 19, 2020, for an undisclosed fee that was expected to be £17 million. In a 3–0 away win in the EFL Cup against Bristol City on his debut five days later. In a 3–0 home win over West Bromwich Albion, he scored his first Premier League goal in four years in December. Traore scored his first goal at Villa Park on the last day of the Premier League season in a 2–1 victory over former Chelsea.

Traoré signed for Süper Lig club stanbul Başakşehir on a season-long loan on August 22, 2022.

International career

Traoré was a participant in the 2010 FIFA U-17 World Cup and 2011 African U-17 Championship, as well as helping Burkina Faso defeat Rwanda 2–1 in the continental final.

Traoré made his Burkina Faso senior national team debut against Equatorial Guinea on September 3rd, 2011. In the 2012 edition, he made his first appearance at an Africa Cup of Nations finals, becoming one of the youngest players to do so. In their final group stage match with Burkina Faso having been barred from the tournament after losing their first two group stage matches, he appeared as a 66th-minute replacement for Narcisse Yaméogo.

Traoré scored his first goal for the senior national team in a 2–1 friendly away win over Morocco on August 14, 2013. He appeared in all three of the team's games in another group stage departure, beginning with the first two.

At the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Burkina Faso came third. Traoré won by 2–0 over Guinea-Bissau in Marrakesh, advancing his country to the quarterfinals.
