Early life
Austin Harris Mahone was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Michele Lee (née Demyanovich) and Charles Edgar Mahone. His father died when he was a year and a half old, and by his single mother, he was raised as a Catholic. Mahone is of English, French, German, and Slovak descent. He attended Lady Bird Johnson High School in San Antonio but left early in his freshman year and was homeschooled at his grandmother's house.

Career
In June 2010, Mahone began his career by posting videos on YouTube. More music videos followed, and by January 2011, he was building an online fanbase. Mahone released a video describing Justin Bieber's "Mistletoe" in October 2011. Mahone has cited Bieber as his inspiration.
Mahone's first single, "11:11," was released on iTunes on February 14, 2012. "Say Somethin" became his second single worldwide on June 5, 2012.
