Ally Sheedy Life

Alexandra Elizabeth "Ally" Sheedy (born June 13, 1962) is an American actress and writer.

She made her film debut in 1983's Bad Boys as one of the Brat Pack group of actors in the films The Breakfast Club (1985) and St. Elmo's Fire (1985).

She also appeared in WarGames (1983) and Short Circuit (1986).

Sheedy received the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead in Lisa Cholodenko's High Art (1998).

Early life

Alexandra Elizabeth Sheedy was born in New York City on June 13, 1962, and she has two siblings, brother Patrick, and sister Meghan. Charlotte (née Baum) is a writer and press agent who was active in women's and civil rights movements, and her father, John J. Sheedy Jr., is a Manhattan advertising executive. Sheedy's mother is Eastern European Jewish, although her father is of Irish Catholic origins. Her maternal grandmother was from Odessa, Ukraine. In 1971, her parents divorced.

She attended the Bank Street School for Children and Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in New York City, graduating in 1980. She began dancing with the American Ballet Theatre at the age of six and wanted to make it a full time career. However, she gave up dancing in favour of acting full time, and then began learning about acting with actor Harold Guskin. She Was Nice to Mice, a book she wrote at age 12, was published. McGraw-Hill Education published the book, making it a best-seller. On June 19, 1975, she appeared on the game show To Tell the Truth.

Sheedy, an 18-year-old girl, moved to Los Angeles, California, where she enrolled in the University of Southern California's drama department. Sheedy began her acting career while also completing three years' worth of courses toward a BFA degree in acting.

Personal life

Sheedy became a vegetarian at the age of 12.

Richie Sambora, a Bon Jovi guitarist, was dated for less than a year in the 1980s. In Los Angeles Times, she said that the friendship led to heroin use, a charge Sambora denied. Sheedy was admitted to the Hazelden Foundation in 1985 and was treated for a sleeping pill disorder in the 1990s, an experience she recalled as a heroin-addicted photographer in High Art.

Sheedy married David Lansbury, the nephew of actress Angela Lansbury and son of Edgar Lansbury, the original creator of Godspell, on April 12, 1992. They have a son, Beckett, who was born in 1994. Beckett, a trans man from Sheedy's time, says she "learned a lot." Sheedy and Lansbury had filed for divorce in 2008.

Sheedy took the #MeToo hashtag alongside James Franco and Christian Slater's names in January 2018, implying that they had been sexually offensive with her, but later canceled the tweets. Franco denied knowing why Sheedy would have tweeted those allegations.
