Education

Franklin enrolled in New York University for one year (1981-1982) before moving out to become a professional actor. She continued her education three years later when she attended Moorpark College and then California State University, Northridge, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education in 2017.

Personal life

In 1989, Franklin married Ray DeLaurentis, an animation journalist for television shows such as The Fairly OddParents. They live in Westlake Village, California. Their son Nick is a musician, while their daughter Olivia is a comedian and actress best known as one half of the absurdist comedy double act Syd & Olivia.

Career

Franklin appeared in television commercials for Coca-Cola, Trident, Jell-O, and Maxwell House coffee early in her acting career. She appeared in two episodes of As the World Turns, which aired in October 1979. Karen was the protagonist of The Last American Virgin, the 1982 teen drama film. Patricia Montelli appeared in the horror film Amityville II: The Possession, which was the same year. In the 1985 comedy film Better Off Dead, she was given top billing in her forthcoming film, the 1984 erotic comedy film Second Time Lucky, and she played French exchange student Monique Junet.

In Bill & Ted's Outstanding Adventure (1989), Franklin played Princess Joanna and has appeared as an extra or in guest roles on episodes of television series such as Bay City Blues, Matlock, and Family Law. She appeared in three television films, including one as Jock Ewing's first wife in the 1986 film Dallas: The Early Years.

Diane Franklin, the Last American, French Exchange Babe of the 1980s, published a memoir in 2012. Diane Franklin's second book, titled The Excellent Curls of the Last American, French-Exchange Babe of the 80s, appeared in 2017. In 2018, she returned to Amityville to play Louise DeFeo in the horror film The Amityville Murders. In 2021, she appeared in Ted Bundy: An American Boogeyman.
