Alison Goldfrapp Life

Alison Elizabeth Goldfrapp (born on May 13, 1966) is an English musician and record producer best known as the vocalist of British experimental music band Goldfrapp.

Early life

Goldfrapp was born in Enfield, London, on May 13, 1966, as the youngest of six children. Isabella Barge, her mother, was a nurse. Nicholas Goldfrapp, her father, had been an army officer and worked in advertising. Goldfrapp's surname is not of German origins. As Goldfrapp was growing up, her family moved frequently, eventually settling in Alton, Hampshire, where Goldfrapp attended the independent Alton Convent School. She sang in a choir at the university and has said she loved being in a nun's class. However, she was forced to leave at age 11 after failing the senior exam, and she attended Amery Hill School, a local comprehensive school. She stepped into a squat in London at the age of 16. She studied fine art and mixed media at Middlesex University at 24 years old.

Personal life

In a February 2010 interview with The Sunday Times, Goldfrapp confessed to dating film editor Lisa Gunning, saying, "I think of everything as being about a person and a relationship, and I am in a wonderful relationship with a wonderful person." It just happens that it is with a lady. It's something I've been thinking about for a long time, and it fits with my life and sexuality views. I don't think it can or should be pigeonholed. Since I was a kid, I've been thinking about it. I've always found it claustrophobic to think about having to group things into categories like this. My sexuality is the same as my music and my personal lives.

Why does it need a label?"

Previously, Goldfrapp's relationships with men were purely male.

It was revealed that Goldfrapp was dating architect Peter Culley in November 2020.

Goldfrapp is dyslexic.

Alison Goldfrapp Career

Career

With trip reggae group Dreadzone's 'best of' album The Good The Bad and the Dread, she appeared on the Orbital album Snivilisation and recorded songs "The Good" and "The Bad" in 1994. On the limited edition Performance album that was released in 1994, performing with them resulted in two songs. Goldfrapp appeared on trip hop artist Tricky's 1995 album "Pumpkin" and collaborated with Stefan Girardet on two songs on the soundtrack to the 1995 film The Confessional.

Will Gregory was introduced to Goldfrapp in 1999 after he listened to her vocal appearance on "Pumpkin"; the pair later formed Goldfrapp and signed to Mute Records.

She appeared on "The Time Of The Turning" and "The Weaver's Reel" as a featured vocalist on OVO's soundtrack album to the London Millennium Dome Show in 2000.

The pair began recording their debut album in a six-month period in September 1999 in a rented bungalow in the Wiltshire countryside. Felt Mountain, the band's debut album, was released in 2000 and featured Goldfrapp's synthesized vocals over cinematic soundscapes. In 2003, Goldfrapp's second album Black Cherry was released. The band made the album in Bath, England. This album honed more on dance music and glam rock-inspired synths than its predecessor. Black Cherry debuted at number nineteen on the UK Albums Chart, and it has sold 52,000 copies in the United States.

In 2005, Goldfrapp's third album, Supernature, was released. The album features pop and experimental dance music on Black Cherry, but it is more based on subtle hooks rather than the large choruses that made up the predecessor's. For the song "Ooh La La La," it has sold one million copies around the world and received two awards at the 2007 Grammy Awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording.

The Seventh Tree, Goldfrapp's fourth album, was released in 2008 and debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart. The album is a departure from Supernature's pop and experimental dance music, which features ambient and downtempo songs. The band was inspired by an acoustic radio session they had attended, which led them to the duo's incorporation of acoustic guitars into their music to create "warm" and "delicate" sounds.

The University of Portsmouth gave her an Honorary Doctor of Music degree in 2009.

Goldfrapp has released seven albums, the most popular of which was Silver Eye in 2017. "Strict Machine," "Ooh La La," "Lovely Head," and "A&E" are among the hits. The multi-platinum award-winning band has been nominated for the Mercury Prize, several Grammy Awards, and has received an Ivor Novello for "Strict Machine."

My Summer of Love and Nowhere Boy were two of Goldfrapp's films.

Goldfrapp has devoted more time to her work as a photographer and director in recent years. "Everything Is Never Enough" and "Ocean" were among the album artworks she produced and shot for Silver Eye's singles "Systemagic," "Everything Is Never Enough" and "Ocean."

The Ivor Novello "Inspiration Award" was given to Goldfrapp's in September 2021, recognizing "peer recognition for the Goldfrapp songwriting collection's excellence and in particular how it has inspired other artists' creative talents.

Alison Goldfrapp goes solo on Glasto's dreamy disco. THRILLS, ADRIAN THRILLS talks about The Love Invention

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 12, 2023
DRIAN THRILLS: Alison Goldfrapp (right), the public face of electronic duo Goldfrapp, achieved the perfect blend of her artistic leanings and mainstream appeal. The music she made with her sidekick Will Gregory was sufficient to earn a Mercury Prize nomination, but it wasn't strong enough to make Kylie, Madonna, and Girls Aloud sit up and take notice. She is playing out alone in a band that bears her surname on an amicable sabbatical - with no hint that she and backroom boy Will have together to write songs again. And it's her poppier, club-friendly side that's closest to her heart, on the evidence of her first solo album. She's headed to the dancefloor after being left to her own devices. The Jonas Brothers, the former Disney Channel heartthrobs (left), dismiss any growing pains on their sixth studio bid.
