Career
Kenin was born in New York City. When she was young, her parents divorced, and actress Maya Kenin married actor John Ryan. Kenin began acting as a child and received her first professional role in the 1972 holiday TV movie special The House Without a Christmas Tree, which starred Jason Robards and Lisa Lucas. She was given the role of Regan MacNeil in The Exorcist at the age of 10. Kenin refused to attend, and Linda Blair played the role.
Kenin appeared in John Guare's Landscape of the Body in The Public Theater in 1977 and in the Elusive Angel's off-Broadway production. In the television miniseries The Word, she appeared David Janssen's daughter the following year. She portrayed "Libby" in Neil Simon's "I Ought to Be in Pictures' touring production starring Bill Macy and Patricia Harty in December 1980. In addition to ABC Afterschool Special and in Bette Davis' 1982 TV film A Piano for Mrs. Cimino, she appeared in numerous episodes.
After her mother divorced John Ryan at the age of 17, Kenin and her mother moved to Los Angeles. Kenin attended Beverly Hills High School while also working on her acting career. In 1979, she appeared on CBS sitcom Co-Ed Fever. After one episode, the series was cancelled. Kristy MacNichol and Tatum O'Neal co-starred in the teen comedy Little Darlings for the next year.
Kenin appeared on episodes of The Facts of Life and Gimme a Break in 1982. In the same year that she appeared in Honkytonk Man, the part of an aspiring young singer as he headed to Nashville. One of Kenin's last appearances appeared in the John Hughes film Pretty in Pink (1986), which was released shortly after her death.
