Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Career

Club career

At the age of seven, Oxlade-Chamberlain joined the Southampton Academy. He made his first-team debut for Southampton, aged 199 days, on a 5–0 win over Huddersfield Town, the club's second youngest ever appearance maker after Theo Walcott, who came off the bench on March 2, 2010. In the last match of the season against Southend United, Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared as an 82nd-minute replacement for Jason Puncheon on May 8, 2010. Oxlade-Chamberlain got off to a rocky start against AFC Bournemouth in the first round of the League Cup at the start of the 2010-11 season on August 10th. He scored Southampton's second goal, his first senior goal, during the match.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's first professional deal lasted three years on August 20, 2010, just shy of his 17th birthday. In a 2–0 loss at home to Rochdale on September 4, 2010, his first league appearance came in a 2–0 loss. In a 2–1 victory over Oldham Athletic on October 23, 2010, the match winner made his first league appearance. In a 4–0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge on November 2, 2010, he scored two more goals and also contributed to the cause. He was named Man of the Match in a league match for the first time on November 2, 2010.

While Southampton were promoted to the Championship, Oxlade-Chamberlain completed the season with nine goals; he was named in the PFA One Team of the Year for the 2010–11 season. He was later accused of transferring, and Mark Chamberlain, his father, said in June that he was eager for his son to join Arsenal "as soon as possible" to "continue his growth."

Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for Arsenal in Premier League on August 8, 2011. Although neither club nor league disclosed the specifics of the contractual arrangements, press reports indicated that the fee was a £12 million initial payment, which could increase to £15 million with "add-ons" as a result.

He made his Arsenal debut in the 8–2 loss away to Manchester United as the 62nd-minute replacement for Francis Coquelin, making him the Premier League's 150th player to represent Arsenal. He scored his first goal for Arsenal in the 58th minute of a League Cup match against Shrewsbury Town on September 20, 2011 with a drive from 25 yards. Arsenal defeated 3–1.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the opening goal in the eighth minute of his UEFA Champions League debut against Greek team Olympiacos, running diagonally across an Alex Song long pass and past several defenders before finishing into the goal's corner. He became the youngest Englishman to score in the Champions League, defeating teammate Theo Walcott's record.

In a 2–1 loss at Manchester United in January 2012, Oxlade-Chamberlain started his first Premier League match for Arsenal, with Robin van Persie contributing an assist to a Robin van Persie goal. Andrey Arshavin was substituted by Arsène Wenger in the 78th minute, with the score now 1–1. Fans of Arsenal booed the decision to dismiss Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Van Perst was not satisfied with the manager's decision. Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first two Premier League goals in a home match against Blackburn Rovers, which resulted in a 7–1 victory to Arsenal on February 4th. Wenger praised Oxlade-Chamberlain for his rapid growth after this match.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's strong form and performance against strong European opposition earned many accolades during his second leg of the Champions League second round against Milan; Marco van Basten called him a "gem," while then-Arsenal captain Robin van Persie said Oxlade-Chamberlain was the future of both Arsenal and England.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was nominated for PFA Young Player of the Year during his first season in the Premier League, but he was deemed the youngest on the shortlist and was eventually voted out to Tottenham Hotspur's Kyle Walker, who was three years old.

In a 6–1 home victory over Coventry City in the League Cup, Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first goal of the 2012-2013 season from 25 yards out.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and colleagues Aaron Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, and Carl Jenkinson announced on December 19th, 2012, that they had agreed to a new long-term deal with Arsenal. In a 7-3 home win over Newcastle United, Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his second Premier League goal of the 2012–13 season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain contributed to Olivier Giroud's victory in a 3–1 loss at home to Aston Villa, but he later announced he would be out for between six weeks and three months, leaving England out of England's remaining World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Montenegro.

Despite not playing for Arsenal since recovering from his injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain was still nominated for the Golden Boy Award 2013 in honor of his performances earlier this year for England and Arsenal.

In Arsenal's 2–0 victory over Crystal Palace on February 2, James Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first two goals of the season. After suffering from a groin injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the last few weeks of the season, including the 2014 FA Cup Final, but it was a gruesome one.

Oxlade-Chamberlain began the season by winning the 2014 FA Community Shield with Arsenal beating Manchester City 3–0 at Wembley Stadium. In a 1–1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on September 27, he scored in the North London derby in a 1–1 draw. Arsenal beat RSC Anderlecht 3–0 in the UEFA Champions League on November 4th, but the match eventually concluded 3–3. In the round of 16 matches against Monaco in February, he also scored. In a 2–1 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup, he was injured and had to be pulled just after halftime. It was later announced that he would be out for three to four weeks due to the hamstring injury. Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived as a replacement in the 2015 FA Cup Final and set up Olivier Giroud's score against Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium on May 30th.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 2nd. Bournemouth's first goal he scored for Arsenal in a league match away from home was his only league goal of the season.

In a 2–0 home loss to Barcelona in the Champions League on February 23, he sustained a serious knee injury, which was expected to prevent him from playing for up to eight weeks. A further injury in May during preparations delayed his return to the remainder of the season, as well as the summer UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.

Arsenal's first day loss to Liverpool was on the bench, but Oxlade-Chamberlain replaced them with a teepable Alex Iwobi, who was injured, scoring Arsenal's second goal in a 3–4 loss. As Arsenal secured a 1–1 draw with Manchester United, Oxlade-Chamberlain also contributed to Olivier Giroud's last minute equalizer at Old Trafford. In Arsenal's first away match at the London Stadium, where they defeated 5-1, Oxlade-Chamberlain also scored a goal against West Ham United and gave an assist for a goal by Alexis Sánchez. In Arsenal's 2016–17 EFL Cup campaign, where they reached the quarter-finals of the tournament, he scored three times.

Oxlade-Chamberlain received the Man of the Match Award in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on April 23, having assisted Nacho Monreal in scoring an equalizer. This was his second match in a new wing-back role. In a 2–0 victory over Manchester United on May 7th, he also scored assists for both goals.

Oxlade-Chamberlain signed a five-year deal with Arsenal's Premier League rivals Liverpool for £35 million. Oxlade-Chamberlain made his Liverpool debut on September 9, 2017 as a replacement in a 5–0 loss to Manchester City. He scored his first goal for the club on October 17th, breaking off the bench to score in a 7–0 Champions League victory over Maribor, the joint-largest away win in the competition and the most away victory for an English club. In a 4–1 victory over West Ham on November 4, 2017, he scored his first league goal for Liverpool. He scored his first goal in his team's 4–3 victory over Manchester City on January 14, bringing an end to their undefeated run in the Premier League this season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained a serious knee injury in the 15th minute of the Champions League semi-final first leg 5–2 victory over Roma, which did not allow him to play further during the season or participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Liverpool reported on July 18th that Oxlade-Chamberlain would miss the majority of the 2018-19 season, with Klopp commenting: "It feels like now is the right time to tell people that the focus this coming season will be on recovery and rehabilitation."

Klopp said on December 28th that Oxlade-Chamberlain's recovery was going "ahead of schedule" and that "if he takes further action as he did in the last few weeks, he will play Premier League football this season," which is nice to hear." Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to Liverpool as a replacement in the 5–0 league victory over Huddersfield on April 26, 2019, 366 days after his injury. He was an inactive substitute for the 2019 UEFA Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Oxlade-Chamberlain signed a new deal until 2024 on August 22nd. Oxlade-Chamberlain scored three Champions League goals in the space of two weeks against Genk, as well as a long-range match against former Arsenal in the League Cup on October 30. In a 3–0 away victory over Bournemouth on December 7, he scored his first league goal of the season the following month by sending a ball from Jordan Henderson to provide the first. Oxlade-Chamberlain took over Liverpool's FA Cup final against Flamengo on December 21. Klopp announced that Oxlade-Chamberlain would miss the remaining two games of the season as a result of "damage to his ankle." Oxlade-Chamberlain would later score their fifth goal in Liverpool's 5–3 victory over Chelsea on July 22nd, their last home game of the season.

During a pre-season camp in Austria, Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained a knee injury on August 21. Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first goal of the season on 19 May 19th when he was off the bench in a 3–0 home victory over Burnley.

He was called up to the England Under-19 squad against Germany on February 8, 2011, but he was promoted to the England Under-21 squad for a friendly match away from Italy on February 2nd. England defeated Belgium 4–0 on February 29, 2012, with a late penalty as a result of at least a play-off spot in the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was named in the 23-man senior England squad for UEFA Euro 2012, which will be held in Poland and Ukraine on May 16th. On 2 June, he got his first senior appearance for England against Belgium in a 1–0 victory over Theo Walcott in a 1–0 victory over Belgium at Wembley Stadium, another warm-up match and England's final match before the tournament.
