Club career
Ziyech was born in Dronten, Netherlands. He played for Reaal Dronten and ASV Dronten's youth academy from 2001 to 2007. He joined the Heerenveen academy in 2007.
Ziyech made his formal debut for Heerenveen in the first leg of the Europa League's third qualifying round on August 2, 2012, against Rapid București, playing a total of 53 minutes before being dismissed. Ziyech beat Sturm Graz 2-0 in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League on July 25, 2018. Ziyech scored the only goal in the Champions League semi-final first leg victory at Tottenham Hotspur on April 30, 2019. He also scored his second goal for Ajax in the second leg of the semi-finals, where Ajax were defeated 3–2 by Tottenham and then eliminated out of the tournament on away goals with a 3–3 aggregate score. In August 2019, he began a new three-year contract with Ajax.

International career
Ziyech, who was born in the Netherlands to a Moroccan family, was able to compete for either the Netherlands or Morocco national team at international level. He competed for national youth teams, including under-19's, under-20's, and under-21's. However, he later signed up for Morocco at the senior level. In May 2015, he was given his first call-up to the senior squad for friendly matches against the United States and Latvia.
Ziyech declared his intention to represent Morocco on the international stage in September 2015. In a 1–0 loss to the Ivory Coast on October 9, Ziyech made his national team debut. In a 2–0 victory over Congo on May 27, 2016, he scored his first two goals for Morocco. Ziyech beat So Tomé and Prncipe 2–0 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on September 4th. Ziyech defeated Mali 6–0 in a qualifier match for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on September 1st. He was selected for the final 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Ziyech was booted from the national team squad squad in September 2021 due to a "poor attitude" who had previously declined to participate, citing an injury.
