Abraham Mateo Chamorro (born 25 August 1998) is a Spanish singer, songwriter, and actor.

Mateo was only seven when he started winning awards on television shows, and at the age of nine, he was honoured the Revelation Prize in Spain's national music competition for children.

Mateo appeared on children's television show Menuda Noche for more than three years, where he stood out for his strong vocal abilities and stage presence.

Around age ten, he signed EMI Music Spain's first self-titled album, Abraham Mateo, and returned four years later with his second album, AM on Sony Music Spain.

Mateo's growth as a performer and discovered him incorporating electronic and dance elements into his music, on the album.

He made his breakthrough in the music world with the single "Seorita," which has had a huge success in Spain and Latin America.

Music career

Around age ten, he signed a recording deal with EMI Music Spain, and his self-titled debut album, Abraham Mateo, was released in December of the same year. The album, which was recorded in Madrid, features original ballads written by his producer Jacobo Calderon, covers of Raphael, Alejandro Sanz, Laura Pausini, and Luis Fonsi, as well as a duet with French singer Caroline Costa.

In 2009, he debuted as actor in the TV miniseries D'as Sin Luz, which chronicles the hunt for missing girl Mari Luz Cortes. In the Spanish miniseries premiered by Antena 3 in Spain, Mateo played Mari Luz' younger brother. In the Antena 3 miniseries based on the life of the legendary Spanish singer, Faln, the teenage Raphael, appeared a year later.

After the launch of his debut album, he continued to cover songs in Spanish, Italian, and English, as well as a duet with Sabrina Carpenter) and then posting the links on YouTube. Mateo's "Desde que te fuiste," a Latin dance song written by himself on ITunes, was released in November 2011.

He signed to Sony Music Spain and Rosa Lagarrigue, the long-time head of Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bosé, and Mecano.

He released his sophomore studio album AM a year later. The album was released in Madrid and Miami, marking a change in his music toward pop and electropop, dance elements, and Spanglish lyrics. AM debuted at number six on the Spanish charts and was rated Gold by Promusicae for 52 weeks.

With the debut of AM's first single, "Seorita," he gained a following. The song, written by Herbie Crichlow and Thomas Troelsen, was on the Spain's Top 50 singles chart for 40 weeks, peaking at number three on the charts, and was awarded Gold in Spain. On YouTube Spain, the music video for "Seorita" was the most trending music video of 2013. Mateo debuted at number three on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in April 2013. He appeared "Seorita" at the 2013 Premios Juventud Awards in Miami, where he was named "Best New Artist" in July.

"Girlfriend," Charlie Mason's second single, was released early October 2013 and debuted within the top ten in Spain. In March 2014, Jacobo Calderón and Mateo himself released "Lánzalo," as a charity single in support of UNICEF's campaign for the children who are refugees as a result of the Syrian civil war. The album debuted at number two on Spain's Top 50 singles chart.

The AM tour began in Valencia in February 2014 and culminated in Málaga's closing in September 2014. Mateo hosted the "Coco Cola Music Experience" concert at a sold-out 15,000-seat Sports Palace in Madrid in October 2014.

He appeared at Sala Omnium in Santiago, Chile, and at a sold-out 7,000-seat Luna Park arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in November 2014.

As part of the Where We Are Tour in 2014, he was the opening act for the British boyband One Direction in Peru, Chile, and Spain.

For the European Spanish soundtrack of 2013 Disney's film Frozen, Mateo performed "La puerta hacia el amor" (in English: "Love Is An Open Door." Angy Fernandez appeared in the online series XQEsperar, which also featured Angy Fernandez.

He went to Los Angeles in May 2014 to work on his third studio album with Damon Sharpe, Lauren Christy, Andre Merritt, and other songwriters. It's titled Who I AM and was released in Spain and Latin America in November 2014 as a collection of broken beats, throwback funk vibes, experimental beats, and organic arrangements. In June 2015, a special edition of the album was released, with guest appearances by Dvicio, Critika & Saik, and Lerica. Who I AM reigned at number one in Mexico and Spain and was named Platinum by Promusicae.

He released the first single "All The Girls (La La La La)" in September 2014, a song written by Lauren Christy, Jacobo Calderón, and Mateo himself, which debuted at number 9 on the Spain's singles chart and debuted on the Brazilian radio charts. On the VEVO website, the music video for this song was voted as the best Spanish music video of 2014. "Todo Terminó" and "Another Heartbreak" were also included on the album, as well as Dvicio's vocalist Andrés Ceballos.

He began a trip to Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Dominican Republic, and Mexico to raise Who I AM. Mateo appeared with Carlos Rivera at Teatro Metropólitan and with the Mexican boyband CD9 at the Mexico City Arena in this last country. The Who I AM concert tour began in December 2014 in Barcelona and ended after nine months and nearly 40 shows, including a big concert at Sports Palace in Madrid. He performed his first solo concerts in Mexico City, Plaza Condesa, and Peru, as well as his second sold-out concert at the legendary Luna Park Arena in Buenos Aires.

In Alejandro Sanz's performance at the Sports Palace in Málaga, he appeared as a special guest. Mateo appeared on TVE's New Year's Eve show in a duet with Spanish pop star Malu.

Mateo appeared in Lodovica Comello's single "Sin usar palabras," from her album Mariposa. On their single "Para Siempre," he worked with CD9 to produce their single "Para Siempre." For the Spanish trio Lérica, he wrote "Eres Ese Milagro" and "Recordando El Beso."

He arranged and interpreted the soundtrack of BRB International's animated film Invizimals, which was based on a PlayStation video game.

I.AM, Mateo's first biography, published in November 2014. Montena, Penguin Random House's editorial affiliate, was the first to be published.

He received the "Premio a la Identidad isle" (Islander Identity Prize), which was given to him by the city hall of San Fernando, Cádiz, his birthplace in January 2015.

In March 2015, he went to London and Los Angeles to write songs for a new album in collaboration with Poo Bear, Damon Sharpe, Jörgen Elofsson, Lindy Robbins, Talay Riley, and Julian Emery. Mateo's fourth studio album, Are You Ready, debuted in Spain and Mexico's number seven. Mateo's songwriting skills are on display in the album, which also stands out due to its blend of British pop sensibilities, reggae touches, R&B, and mature lyrics. The album features the singles "Old School," "Are You Ready," "When You Love Somebody," "Mi Vecina," and "Mueve," starring Argentinian singer Lali.

Are You Ready? Mateo traveled to Colombia, Chile, Portugal, Argentina, Peru, and Mexico. In October 2016, he held his most important concert so far at a sold-out 10,000-seat National Auditorium in Mexico City, featuring guest appearances by CNCO, Dulce Mara, Mau & Ricky, and Rio Roma.

Mateo appeared on the ballad version of chart-top single "Quisiera" from CNCO's debut album, Primera Cita. For Gemeliers' album Gracias and "Rumbera" he wrote "Malas Lenny and "Rumbera" he wrote.

Mateo received three nominations at the 2016, 2017, 2019:Premios Juventud awards, where he also appeared as the host.

He appeared on Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" on the Spanish soundtrack of the Universal Pictures animated film Minions in 2015. He made a cameo appearance in the Portuguese teenage drama Massa fresca, which was broadcast by Televiso Independente a year later (TVI).

Mateo was up against Armando Lozano (Ricky Martin and CNCO's former manager) and Edgar Andino (long-serving manager of Wisin y Yandel), as new bosses in 2017 with a view to the internationalization of his musical project.

He debuted his latest single "Loco Enamorado" in June with Puerto Ricans Farruko and Christian Daniel. "Loco Enamorado," written by Mateo himself and Edgar Barrera and produced by renowned urban music producer Jumbo, debuted on Billboard's 'Latin Pop Songs,' and "Latin Pop Songs" at number six, and it also appeared in Billboard's Hot Latin Songs, Latin Airplay, Mexico Airplay, and Latin Digital Song Sales. The single has been given three times Platinum in Chile, two times Platinum in Spain, Platinum in Mexico, and Gold in the United States, Argentina, and Peru.

In December 2017, he released "Háblame Bajito," a tribute to rap legend 50 Cent and pop singer Austin Mahone. The song's music video premiered on Billboard's website exclusively. "Háblame Bajito" debuted at number 17 on Billboard's Latin Digital Songs chart and has since been named Gold in Spain, Argentina, and the United States Latin Counties.

In March 2018, he recorded "Se Acabó El Amor" with Jennifer Lopez and Yandel.

Mateo, along with The Stereotypes and E-40, is included on Pitbull's single "Jungle." This collaboration will be included on Pitbull's first Greatest Hits album.
