Career

Nagy was born in Budapest, Hungary. He started his career at Goldball '94 FC and then moved to Tabáni Spartacus SKE and Szent István SE. He spent a brief time at Aramis Sport Egyesület, a futsal club.

He travelled to La Manga Club to enroll the English football development academy VisionPro Sports Institute at the age of 16. The academy moved to Portugal in January 2012, where it became the VSI Rio Maior Football Club, and the academy began to compete in the lower levels of the Santarém Football Association Juniors Championship. Former Premier League players, such as Ian Wright and Mark Hughes, were guiding the initiative. The academy was led by English coach Paul Simpson, and the team was made up of young people aged 16 to 19, from Portugal, Hungary, Angola, Wales, Congo, and Spain. Due to mis-managing funds by the VSI Chairman and directors' mismanagement, the initiative came to an end in March 2013.

Nagy signed with Ferencváros on August 13, 2013. He made his professional debut in the 2013–2014 campaign with the II-team in the third division. On August 24, 2013, he made his first appearance in the competition, losing 0–2 at home against Felstárkány. He scored his first goal in the Ebes' 7–0 victory on August 30.

Nagy made his official debut for Ferencváros on May 12, 2015, defeating Honvéd 3–0 in the season's League Cup. He played his first match against Paksi FC four days later. The Budapest team won by 1–0, putting the overall victory. Nagy came out in the 46th minute as a replacement for Ugrai. Nagy helped his team win the 2015 Magyar Kupa Final by playing 70 minutes in the final on May 20th.

Nagy became the Hungarian League champion with Ferencváros on April 2nd after losing 21-0 to Debrecen 2–1 at the Nagydei Stadion in the 2015–16 Nemzeti Bajnokság I season.

Nagy was ranked among the top ten young talents at the Euro 2016 on June 10, 2016. Sports Illustrated compiled the list, which includes football players such as Kingsley Coman, Julian Draxler, and Raphal Guerreiro.

Nagy attracted the attention of clubs like Benfica, Olympique de Marseille, and Leicester City during the European Championships.

Nagy joined Bologna's Italian side after an excellent showing with the national team at the UEFA Euro 2016 on July 14th. In December 2016, he was voted Bologna's Player of the Month for December. Nagy scored his 8th goal for Bologna in a friendly before the 2017–18 Serie A season.

He was named as the third best player in the team's inaugural year in April, 2017, followed by Simone Verdi and Andrea Poli in the team by the voters of Bologna FC's official website. However, the 2017-18 season was not as fruitful as Nagy's previous season, since he made only 12 appearances during the season. He scored his first Serie A goal for Bologna against Hellas Verona F.C. on April 15, 2018. In 94th minute at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, Bologna, the stadium is in its 94th minute.

Nagy made only 14 appearances in the 2018-19 Serie A season, out of ten times during Filippo Inzaghi and Sinia Mihajlovi's coaching, and he's stated repeatedly that he wanted to leave Bologna in the summer of 2019.

Nagy signed Bristol City, England, on a three-year contract with the option for a fourth year on August 8, 2019. He made his debut in the 2019–20 EFL Championship against Birmingham City, F.C., on August 10th. In the next game, Andrew's scored his first goal against QPR for his first goal.

Nagy signed a four-year deal with Serie B club Pisa on August 27, 2021.

International career

Nagy was a member of the Hungary U-20 World Cup in 2015, competing in four games (three starts) in a final round of 16 elimination.

Nagy played his first match in Hungary's national team, a 1–1 draw against Northern Ireland in a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying Group F match at Windsor Park on September 7, 2015, at 7 p.m. As a substitute for Elek, he appeared on the pitch in the 23rd minute.

Nagy was chosen for Hungary's Euro 2016 squad.

Nagy won by 2–0 over Austria in their first group match in a UEFA Euro 2016 Group F match at Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, France, on June 14th. He shared a 1-1 draw with Iceland at the Stade Vélodrome, Marseille, three days later.
