Yuji Don Okumoto (born April 20, 1959) is an American actor and filmmaker best known for his scary film roles, notably as a villain in The Karate Kid Part II.
Aloha Summer, Nemesis, Pearl Harbor, and The Truman Show are among his film appearances, as well as guest appearances on television series such as T.J. Hooker, Knots Landing, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Bones, are among his other films.
Early life
Okumoto, a third-generation Japanese American (Sansei), was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. At the age of 13, he began karate, studying in various ways. By the time of Part II of The Karate Kid, the 27-year-old Okumoto had earned a brown belt in Karate and had acquired basic skills in other martial arts, such as Kung Fu and Judo. Hayward Nishioka, his Chit-ry Karate Instructor, Yukinori Kugimiya, his Kajukenbo Instructor was Kevin Quock, and his Yau Kung Moon Sifu was Kevin Quock.
He attended Hollywood High School and Cal State Fullerton, where he studied acting.
Personal life
Okumoto and his partner Angela and their three children live in Seattle, Washington, Washington. Kona Kitchen/Yuji's Bar & Lounge is owned and operated by the couple.
Career
His success in the play Indians led to the signing of an agent and then a part in The Young and the Restless. His first appearances were in The Check Is in the Mail, Real Genius, and Better Off Dead. Chozen Tochi, Daniel's adversary, appeared in the 1986 film The Karate Kid Part II, perhaps in his most well-known role. Yukio Nakajo appeared in Only the Brave, a Japanese American segregated combat unit of World War II, in 2005. Tamlyn Tomita and Pat Morita were also cast members of this film. In the 1989 Disney Channel original film Johnny Tsunami, Kaigun-Daii in Pearl Harbor, and Bruce Takedo in the television series Bones, Shu Kai Kim, a character based on Chol Soo Lee, is among his credits. He is a producer on the forthcoming independent film The Paper Tigers, in which he appears in a small part.
In 2021, Okumoto revived his Karate Kid II role as Chozen Tobechi, who appeared in Cobra Kai's Season 3 as a mentor and ally of Daniel.
