Willie Nile Life

Willie Nile (born Robert Noonan; June 7, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter. Nile's self-titled debut album came in 1980.

His early career was interrupted by various difficulties, but he eventually returned to recording and performing in the United States and Europe, establishing himself as a singer-songwriter.

Early life

He was born in Buffalo, New York, to "a gregarious Irish Catholic family." He grew up with two older brothers who played piano and a mother who "used to have music in the house." "Something was always playing," whether it was classical or large band or recent hits of the times. His grandfather, who performed with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Eddie Cantor, played in Buffalo and was a vaindler pianist who performed with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Eddie Cantor.

Nile studied philosophy at the University of Buffalo and spent time in Greenwich Village before starting his music career. When he spent a year recovering, he contracted pneumonia and wrote songs. Since then, he began attending CBGB's, where he saw entertainers including Patti Smith, Television, the Ramones, and Talking Heads.

Willie Nile Career

Career

Nile remained resident at Kenny's Castaways, a Greenwich Village bar, where he was discovered by New York Times music critic Robert Palmer who described Nile as "the most talented songwriter to emerge from the New York folk scene in some time." Clive Davis was interviewed and signed to Arista Records, resulting in a new record. Jay Dee Daugherty from Patti Smith Group and Fred Smith from Television joined him in the studio. Stephen Holden of the New York Times described him as a "live wire" in concerts.

Willie Nile, his debut album, was released on his debut album, and he appeared on The Who's 1980 summer tour.

Nile, who was on his second album, Golden Down, 1981, was involved with protracted court issues that stalled his career for a long time.

Though he continued to write, Nile did not perform live or record again until a 1987 appearance with Eric Andersen in Oslo, Norway. In 1988, a videotape of Nile's appearance in Norway prompted a Columbia talent scout to commit him to the label. For reasons that are unclear, the album's production didn't begin for two years. It was also a major deferral of the troubadour's career. "Everybody Needs A Hammer" and "Heaven Help The Lonely" were among his Columbia Records CD Places that never got to be published in 1991. I Have Never Been featured artists include Richard Thompson, Loudon Wainwright III, Roger McGuinn, and members of the Hooters and the Roches. Nile was the guest musician on the Late Night With David Letterman show on June 11, 1991.

Nile has recorded and performed with many artists, including Ringo Starr, Tori Amos, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Ian Hunter, and Barenaked Ladies. Willie Nile-Archive Alive, a live Central Park concert recording, was released on Archive Recordings, and Nile, Joan Osborne, Cyndi Lauper, Levon Helm, The Chieftains, Taj Mahal, and Carole King were among the 1998 ensemble album Largo's vocalists, as well as Joan Osborne, Cyndi Lauper, Levon Helm, The Chieftains, and Carole King. Nile wrote and performed the bulk of the songs for Kevin McLaughlin's film Pinch Me!

Beautiful Wreck of the World, his first self-released album, gathered together, came as he aged. Critics at Billboard Magazine, The Village Voice, and Stereo Analysis selected it as one of the Top ten Albums of the Year.

"On the Road to Calvary," Nile's song for Jeff Buckley, "one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard." The album debuted in the Independent Music Awards for Best Rock Album of the Year.

Nile was invited to perform with the E Street Band at three concerts, including the two final Giants Stadium shows as well as the two last shows of that particular tour at Shea Stadium.

Streets of New York, Nile's best work to date, was released in 2006, which some may regard as his best work to date due to its execution and songwriting. Jay Cocks, a former Time magazine music critic and Academy Award-winning screenwriter, writes about Streets of New York, "The tunes he writes and performs with such ferocity bring the myth, mystery, loss, and passion in this city," the town's myth and mystery, confusion, and passion is more accurate and precise than anything I've seen since Dion. This record is both a head-twister and a heart-wrencher. It's rock and roll at its best. It's New York at its best. And there's nothing better than that."

On April 14, 2009, the House of a Thousand Guitars was released to raving reviews.

Nile joined the E Street Band on September 22, 2009, the cover of Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher."

Nile was named Legacy Ambassador for the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation in Leeds, United Kingdom, on April 23, 2013.

Through Loud & Proud Records, Nile's eighth full-length studio album, American Ride, will be released on June 25, 2013. Nile had intended to self-produce using funds raised on PledgeMusic.com. After being approached by Loud & Proud President Tom Lipsky, the decision to join a record label was made.

Nile released If I Was a River, a 10-track all piano album created by Nile with support from his long-time collaborator Frankie Lee on November 11, 2014.

Bruce Springsteen performed Nile's "One Guitar" on stage at a surprise appearance at the 2015 Light of Day Benefit in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Springsteen, Joan Jett, Roger Daltrey, and Billy Idol were among the 11th annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert on May 28, 2015, to thank Pete Townshend for his efforts to assist other musicians in the battle against addiction.

The album Children of Paradise was released on July 27, 2018. The album was well-received and received raves. "It's his best album to date," Associated Press writer Kiley Armstrong says. "Willie Nile has a lot to say, and he has some great songs in his back pocket," the album Audiophilie said in July 2018. You only have to listen. If you have even a bit of conscience, you should check out Willie's albums from the last ten years or so. You may be inspired by his 21st-century revivalaissance."

Nile's 13th studio album, New York at Night, was unveiled on March 15, 2020. Nile characterized his love for his music as "throwing another long time on the fire." The album includes "Run Free," "My Brother John, who died years ago," "A Little Bit of Love," "A Little Bit of Love," "A New York songwriters classified with Dion," as well as the previously released "New York Is Rockin'" that he co-wrote with Curtis Stigers; "A Little Bit of Love" and "Downtown Girl"; and "A Little Bit of Love" by Nile; "Time Was So Differenti Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Garland Jeffreys, The Ramones, New York Dolls, and others. "Jersey has Bruce Springsteen," Elmore Magazine says, but Willie Nile has Willie Nile" in New York.

Nile's 2006 album Streets of New York was named "Classic American Album" by David Jarman of Americana-UK in 2022.
