Life and career

Edel was born in Neuenburg am Rhein, South Baden. He attended Jesuit Boarding School (Kt Blasien) from 1957 to 1966. He was accepted into Munich Film School with Bernd Eichinger after studying theatre science in Munich. Uli befriended him and started working together on their exercise films, sharing a passion for the new vague and Italian neorealism as well as famous American mainstream cinema.

Edel began learning acting while still enrolled in film school. He wanted to know about the Stanislavski and Strasberg theories. Uli spent time as an assistant producer with Douglas Sirk and produced two television shows after finishing the studies.

Christiane Felscherinow, a child drug addict, was an expert at Bernd Eichinger (production) and Herman Weigel (screenplay) for the true tale of a young drug addict Christiane Felscherinow, a drug addict, in 1980. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo. In 2004, he produced the Dragon King, a TV two-parter based on the Volsunga saga and Nibelungenlied.

In 2008, his film The Baader Meinhof Complex was released in Germany. For Best Foreign Language Film, the critically acclaimed drama was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
