Alexandra Mirai (born 23 August 1974), also known as Lexi Alexander, is an Arab-German film and television producer, an Egyptian film and television actress, and a Palestinian artist.

She is the current World Karate Association world champion in karate-point combat and is best known for directing the action films Green Street Hooligans and Punisher: War Zone.

Johnny Flynton's debut short film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. Alexander is a vocal advocate for gender equality in Hollywood and has spoken out against gender mismatch and misogyny, as well as the promotion of diversity, which includes a more positive and visible representation of Arabs.

Early life and education

Alexander was born in Mannheim, Germany, to a German mother and a Palestinian father. She grew up in Mannheim. Alexander's father was born and raised in Ramallah, Palestine.

Alexander spent time in Los Angeles at Joanne Baron's acting school, learning Meisner's technique and working with acting coach Piero Dusa. At University of California, Los Angeles, she took advance classes in filmmaking.

Personal life

Alexander, a teen, was a member of Mannheim City Boys, a soccer hooligan group that was part of the inspiration for the Green Street Hooligans.

Alexander has metal screws in her knees from his days as a kickboxer.

Alexander has been practicing Systema, a Russian martial arts system.

Career

When Alexander was 8 years old, she began studying martial arts, specifically judo. At 14, she converted to Shotokan karate. In karate, she holds a third-degree black belt.

Alexander excelled at kickboxing, where she joined the German National Team after two years in the sport. She has won the German point fighting championships four times and twice in the European championships.

Alexander became the World Kickboxing Association world champion in karate-point fighting in Atlantic City in 1994.

She resigned from active service and moved to the United States at the age of 19. Alexander had met Chuck Norris at a kickboxing exhibition in the United States, and she had appeared in small roles on German television. Norris was encouraged to study filmmaking in Hollywood. He was one of her visa sponsors.

Pat Johnson, a martial artist, earned the invitation to Kitana in Mortal Kombat: Live Tour in 1995 and 1996, and she spent seven months on tour in 1995 and 1996.

Alexander continued to work as a stunt man, falling from high-rise buildings, learning precision driving and race car racing. In 1994, she helped with partial preparations for Marines in hand-to-hand combat.

Alexander's first film, Johnny Flynton, was a short film that was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003. The film, which portrays a boxer from Alabama who has been charged with murder, is a fictional tale that was inspired by a visit to a boxer in Germany when she was 9 years old, an encounter that she recalls and was the source of the film's concept. Alexander's film was shot in 5 days and was self-financed by him.

Alexander produced Green Street, also known as Green Street Hooligans or Hooligans, in 2005. Charlie Hunnam, Elijah Wood as Pete Dunham, Elijah Wood as Kevin, Shannon Forlani as Shannon, Marc Warren as Steve, and Leo Gregory as Bover were all produced by Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete.

Green Street Hooligans was inspired by her time growing up with her family's favorite German soccer team, Waldhof Mannheim, which culminated in a fascination with the sport and its passionate followers. Alexander co-wrote a screenplay with Dougie Brimson, a former soccer hooligan, and Joshua Shelov, based on an Alexander and Brimson tale about West Ham United.

Green Street Hooligans was only the second in the history of the South By Southwest festival to win both the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature and Audience Award for Narrative Feature, following Alex Holdridge's Sexless in 2003.

Alexander produced Punisher: War Zone, starring Ray Stevenson as the Punisher in 2008. She was the first woman to direct a Marvel adaptation, and it was her first film in the studio. The film was considered a commercial and critical failure at the time of its release. Since being regarded as a cult classic, the film has since been regarded as a cult classic. Patton Oswalt, a comedian, was a strong and vocal promoter of the film.

Alexander has spoken out against Punisher's involvement. Alexander wanted to work on a studio film, so she said she was hired at a low rate. During marketing, then was still low, and she considered that the Christmas arrival date was a mis-step.

Alexander created and produced Lifted, a straight-to-video film shot in Alabama, which had themes of Christianity. Dash Mihok, Nicki Aycox, and Uriah Shelton appeared in the film. Shelton and Mihok perform a musical tale about a son's struggle with his father's deployment in Afghanistan as a Marine.

Alexander produced "Execution Style" for Anthony Zuiker's BlackBoxTV YouTube channel in 2012.

Alexander was hired to direct episodic television after he received a boost from her advocacy work on Twitter in 2014. Alexander edited "Beyond Redemption," a segment of the television show "Arrow." "Reality, Justice, and the American Way" was Alexander's first TV series based in Washington, D.C. Alexander also supervised an episode of Limitless entitled "A Dog's Breakfast" in 2016. "Hail Mary" was Taken's TV show in 2017.

In 2016, it was announced that she would be directing Crossface, a biopic about Chris Benoit's life. However, Benoit's uncle David, who was on the project's cancellation in January 2020, said it had been cancelled.

Alexander was announced in February 2018 that he was working on a Blumhouse Productions TV series titled You Bury Me, which is supposed to be a war-torn love tale set in modern-day Iraq, Syria, and Turkey.

Alexander was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in June 2018.

Alexander has had a long association with martial artist Pat Johnson, who has been employed as a stunt coordinator and choreographer since beginning her career as a stunt manager and choreographer. Alexander is a fan of film director Euzhan Palcy.
